Waited 45 minutes for an online order. When I received my order, it was missing my 2 lassi drinks. They tried to charge me again. When I showed them my order to prove I paid, they realized they were giving me the wrong order. I sat and waited. They came to the table 4 times to ask me about my order. This was about my third time eating the food from here, and my first review. The reason why I stop by here every twelve months or so, is out of sheer convenience. When the server brought my curry chicken and basmati rice ($16.99) to my table, I couldn't help but notice how filthy the carrying tray was. Fortunately, the food itself was hot, and the spice level was low, as I had requested. My appetizer arrived about five minutes later. The spinach pakora ($6.99) was somewhat spicy, and probably an acquired taste. I might order it again, though. At least the quantity was massive. Although the portion sizes are plentiful, the prices lately are spendy. I ended up bringing half of my appetizer and entree home with me. BEWARE: their mildest default settings for food spiciness is a 3 out of 5. You have to make a very special, pleading, request to get spiciness any lower. The service is so-so. You can never be quite sure if they understand what you've requested, because they are so poor at acknowledging you after you've spoken. The ambiance is pretty close to zero. The reason why I ate inside is that I was driving by the restaurant, on my way home. Also, mobile orders can be problematic at this business. This place has that great hole in the wall feel to it. It has biryani in the name so that's what I get when I come here and I suggest others do the same! My husband is a Butter Chicken/Tikka Masala kind of guy so he got one of those when he came with me and the portion size was pretty small actually. He usually has enough to eat it the next day but he ate all of his in one go. However, my biryani was so huge it fed me for like four or more meals. It was huge. I did notice that when we ordered medium spicy the food wasn't spicy at all but when I asked for very spicy it came out really spicy. It was interesting. I know they have levels though I need to tweak which one works best for each dish for our taste buds. Both times I came I got Vijayawada Spl Chicken which comes with raita and gravy. The gravy adds extra flavor and the raita is great at cooling the burn if you get a spicy version. I wasn't fond of their garlic naan as it was really flat and kinda burnt. Hubby noted that the place wasn't as clean as he'd like- for example, the plates had some rice stuck to them that we removed and the naan tray had food splatter around the edges from previous meals. Hyderabad Biryani is without a doubt my favorite Indian restaurant in the Memphis area. The food has always been excellent and the staff is accommodating and friendly. There is now a large buffet seven days a week with several vegetarian options and plenty of spice!!!! Also the restaurant interior boasts a newly remodeled dining area to accompany the banquet hall adding a touch of class to this already wonderful dining experience. THEY SERVED THE NAAN BREAD IN A DIRTY DISH. I cannot get past seeing old food stuck to the container that they gave us our naan bread in. It was so gross. The plastic in the basket only helped just enough that I ate it but I'll never be back. What else aren't they keeping clean?! Used to be great food and service. Now it's resorted to "phishing". DO NOT ORDER ONLINE. I have been a loyal customer since they opened years ago. Recently, I placed an online order (and nice tip) for lunch pickup. When I get there (right at the pickup time... I like the food fresh and hot!), I was asked to show the email where I ordered and paid for the food. I showed the order confirmation email from my phone and let the cashier scroll through. She pointed out that they no longer serve what I ordered and I can "pick something else" that they have because she cannot give refunds to online orders. Upon walking in, I wasn't too sure. The food was just amazing! Fresh, hot, and plentiful! We ordered goat fried biryani and tandoori chicken kebab. I don't care for rice in general but my husband thinks he is biryani connoisseur.. he was totally shocked and taken by back the flavors and the freshness of the food. I love Indian food and have heard good things about this location. I went for the buffet and was pleasantly surprised at the overall dining experience. The selection was good but every dish was very nicely cooked and the seasoning was far above average, indeed some of the best use and execution of regionally specific herbs and cook. My pallet was very busy enjoying all the courses of this meal from breads to deserts and I will be coming back here more often. The pastries available a beautiful and very delicious, check out the excellent selection out front, you won't be disappointed. Two negatives, the tile floor is VERY slick everywhere and even though there's several runners it's still scary with the chairs and feet sliding. I was here last Thursday with a group from work. Some of us were visiting from India, some have been in the US for years, and some us, like me, are American with no ties to India or Indian culture. Everyone commented that this was the best Indian food they have had, and not just some of the selection but every item in the buffett. We all 3 commented how great our food was! it'd been several years since I've been here; the interior has been completely redone and it's fab. But the service and the food were great. I also ordered a Gobi appetizer platter (cauliflower fritters) to go, for a gathering that evening. Everyone commented how delicious it was at the party, and several asked where I had purchased it. I finally know what all the hype around Hyderabad House is for, and for me, the food totally lives up to and deserves the praise it gets. My team has a lot of folks with Indian heritage (me include), so we decided to go here during the week of Diwali (aka festival of lights/ Indian New Year as per the lunar calendar) and so it was 15 of us descending to this restaurant Friday lunchtime around 11am. Thank goodness we'd made a reservation because 30 mins later, all the tables around us were full and having tasted the wonderful options of the buffet, I can see why this place draws a crowd. Service was great - the waiter kept our water glasses filled and as our table faced the ubiquitous TV showing a Bollywood movie, we did get some questions/ comments from our Southern team members about the singing + dancing around trees and how modernity has changed India. I thought the price for the lunch buffet was fair and totally in keeping with the other local options and thought it was a good variety of food, with different spice levels to suit everyone. Its not 5-stars as I did find it challenging when going up to the buffet to find the labels for the dishes incorrect. So there was something labeled as fish, but when I bit into the meat, discovered it was chicken. One thing I did love was the Chai - just like India - and then for dessert the Payasam/ Kheer was delicious!
