I know, because we spent all day checking out consignment stores in every nick and corner of the Twin Cities. (They're certainly not identical twins!) The proprietor Doug is engaging and informative. He has an eye for a pieces that are architectural beauties. Yet, he can also turn that basement throw away into something that should be displayed in the Museum of Modern Art. Repurpose Republic is the kind of place you want to return to often, just to see what new beauty shows up on the showroom floor. Unfortunately, Repurpose Republic was our first stop, and I was exhausted with all the wasted hours visiting other consignment stores. Save yourself some time and just "hit up" Repurpose Republic. While driving past after hanging out with my mom, I slammed in my brakes and whipped a U-ee. Lucky me with my good parking juju, I was able to pull in right out front. I love a good repurpose store and now living in NE I'm in need of some lighting that fits the whole cool Nordeast vibe. This store is chock full of mid century/retro/some redesigned stuff all without that old people basement smell. (Thank God!) This place has more mid century lamps in one store than I've ever seen in my life!! There are a few super groovy ones that would be a blast to have just for conversation it would conjure up all on its own. The con: maybe it's my jacked up NE Mpls rent I'm now paying or my lack of experience on the cost of retro lighting but I'm not sure I can afford these prices. Boo...because I had a good 5 different lamps/lamp sets that my heart was pitter-patterning over. I was able to chitchat with the owner for a bit before there was a sudden Saturday afternoon rush that poured in. I had asked "if it was consignment? Just him buying/reselling? Buy from others that bring things in off the street?" He responded with "All three" and let me know that he also has some local artist work displayed for sale as well. Walking in, I loved the decor which included neon lights and a big State Fair chalk mural (this is a belated review from the summer. RIP, summer). Duke Albert offers an assortment home goods, bath and beauty items, gift, trinquets, and even some vintage clothing from local artists and beyond. I ended up getting a plant hanger, enamel pin, and colorful skirt. Other tempting items of interest: local hand soap, cool candles with metal skeleton cores, silly cheese kit that they found in France, an antique stucco stamp, vintage games and posters. The owners (I assume) were really cool too, providing lots of info and even insight on where they found some of the unique treasures. I'll for sure stop in here periodically when I want something for friends but mostly myself.

Opening the door, the cozy scent of light incense and Palo Santo wafted into my nose. I knew right then it was going to be something a out of the norm. The dimly lid store had a cool, clean, modern mix with bohemian, zen kind of vibe. The kind of store I could personally hang out in for a good hour (or two) just for the smells and all the awesome random finds!! (If only the kids weren't with me today...) While it isn't really a kid geared store- I found something for just about every age group. It's a mix of (extremely clean & crisp) vintage trinkets and clothes, gorgeous more natural lines of personal care, a few beautiful cannabis based things, just funky randomness, classic & modern art, air plants in stellar wall hanging containers, jewelry, (did i mention cool vintage things that were immaculately cleaned??!) well made things I'd like for my next house...it just had a bit of a whole lot of really neat stuff. It's only open weekends but used to be just once a month. I ended up coming home with some cool little Swedish wash clothes, a set of new glasses with French words on them and a gorgeous2 tiered platter rack thingy. I also REALLY wanted to bring home a unique one of a kind French bar cabinet but not sure where to fit it into our new place yet. I've never done the opening hour stampede, so I can't speak to that insanity, but I have been there when it's crowded, but also when it's chill. Persistence is key, doing some research on what you want before you go, and having a realistic budget in mind are all part of setting yourself up for success. In 2008, I got a $3000 couch for $800. They shipped it and delivered to my living room in NJ for about $100. She is still with me, going strong. There was a puppy pee accident about 5 years after purchase and R&B replaced the cushion insert for me at a very reasonable cost ($250?). [Insert loads of great finds over the years for me, friends, and family who I would shop for virtually and R&B would take payment over the phone.] Fast forward to yesterday, while back in MN for a visit, I popped over because the piece we wanted for our guest bedroom/office is delivering mid-Nov new, so I figured, why not check the outlet? LUCK! There she is, $1200 less than list, and if there is something wrong with her, I can't find it...even after an associate helped me move it around and look for issues. I'll probably drop back in today to see if there's any new stock on Sunday, just in case :)
