I've visited Danish Teak Classics a number of times since writing my original review in 2008. On these visits, I've enjoyed browsing the extensive stock. There is something so "right-looking" about the pieces sold here.
Despite these subsequent visits, I have to admit I had completely forgotten about my 2008 review until today, when I received a very polite letter via yelp from the store's manager. Therein, I was rightly taken to task for singling out a unique, valuable and therefore expensive lounge chair as being representative of the store's prices as a whole. (The entire letter is reproduced below in the interest of fairness.)
The manager's criticism is well placed, to the extent that a unique $9000 Hans Wegner lounge chair does not represent the typical price point of their merchandise. Too, there is no disputing the fact that prices on mid-century pieces have gone through the roof on a market-wide basis, which is reflected by the higher prices seen at the store now versus when I bought my furniture. While I despair of the market forces that conspire to drive up prices on mid-century items, I can't blame Danish Teak Classics as a merchant for charging market rate for their goods. At the time I wrote my earlier review I was sad that market forces were what they were, but again, that doesn't fall at the feet of Danish Teak Classics.
I loved the original concept of the store, which to my eyes was offering quality used "danish teak classics" at approachable prices. I suppose that concept is no longer sustainable, given the increased popularity (and prices) of mid-century furniture. I will continue to enjoy the fine pieces I purchased here some years ago, even if current market conditions limit my enjoyment of additional pieces to the world of browsing.

Thanks for taking the time to review our store on yelp. I realize that this is a very old comment, and you may not even remember it at this point in time. Our store only has three reviews on Yelp so your review pretty significantly affects our rating (negatively).
I'm sorry that you were put out by our pricing; the prices definitely have gone through the roof in the last several years-- as a response to rising prices worldwide for this furniture, and it's increasing scarcity. We often tell our customers from years past that we have to pay more now to acquire the furniture we sell than we sold it for in the past. This is a reflection not of us trying to make more money, but to try and stay in business, continuing to supply vintage Scandinavian furniture en masse to our customers.
You certainly have a right to your feelings and opinions about our store; the reason i am writing today is mainly about your comment about a $9000 lounge chair. Our average lounge chair prices are between $800- $2500. The piece you refer to in your commentary was a highly collectable chaise lounge by Hans Wegner; it is one of just a few known left to exist in teak. The lounge was also a consignment piece-- we were actually selling that lounge for the original owner, who set the price. When we did sell it for the consignor we received only a small portion of the selling price. This is most likely too much information, however i don't think that this particular chaise lounge is representative our inventory as a whole, and i feel that it significantly mischaracterizes our business. Is there any way you would consider editing or rescinding this comment about our store?
