Not only is there nothing wrong with Soul Bowl, it's F***ING AMAZING!!! You walk into a smell that…read moremakes your mouth water!!! Prices are reasonable but the food...the food is OVER THE TOP!!! I've been back 4-5 times since being introduced to it and I already have a fav - a sautéd shrimp bowl, hold the rice, double both the crack-n-cheese and sweet potatoes!!! The shrimp are HUGE & slathered in garlic butter! There's nothing wrong with the rice, but I'd rather fill-up on the crack (Mac) and sweets, both of which are OUT OF THIS WORLD!!! The service borders on brown sugar sweet, the food comes up fast so you're not kept waiting. Their food comes up in paper bowls with a clear plastic top so you can see exactly what you're getting while maintaining 75-85% recyclability!!! All in all, they've earned (& continue to earn) my highest marks. DO NOT MISS THIS PLACE!! One foot note: Because all their food is made fresh daily, when if something runs out, it's out for that day. So, if you want to have dinner and you're coming by 15 minutes before closing, you might want to call ahead and see if they're out of anything you're jones-ing for!!!

I later found out they have other locations as well. When I arrived, I noticed this is more of a grab-and-go spot. There is no seating area for dining in, just a small waiting area with a couple of chairs. Parking is street parking, so keep that in mind when stopping by. I ordered in person, and I have to say the service was quick! Within about seven minutes, my food was ready. As soon as you walk in, you can see the menu and even see the kitchen area, which I always appreciate because you can get a feel for how your food is being prepared. The employee who greeted me was very friendly and welcoming. You can also order online. I ordered the seasoned rice, shrimp, mac & cheese, and collard greens bowl. First impression... the bowl looked beautiful and was put together very nicely. Everything looked fresh and appetizing. The shrimp was sautéed in a garlic sauce and had great flavor. The mac & cheese was definitely a highlight, very cheesy! When I put my fork into it, the cheese stretched and expanded the way you hope a good mac & cheese will. The collard greens were good, although I'll be honest, I've had better. They still complemented the bowl and added that classic soul food feel. At first glance, I thought, "Is this going to be enough?" But after eating it, I was completely satisfied and full. The portion was actually just right. The price was reasonable and within the range of what many restaurants are charging today. What makes this place stand out to me is that it tastes homemade and I love fresh food made with care. My only suggestion: PLEASE consider adding cornbread to the menu (hopefully soon ). A piece of cornbread would complete this bowl meal perfectly! Overall, I would definitely recommend Soul Bowl's. Great flavors, quick service, friendly staff, and that homemade comfort-food feeling. I'm already curious to try more from their menu! What should I try next?

I'm not sure if it was a shift change or just timing, but even though the restaurant wasn't very busy, it felt like we were left a bit on the side for a while. Nothing major, just something noticeable. Also, while the food is creative and well made, some items felt a bit pricey for the portion size (for example, a meatball serving), so value may depend on what you order. That said, it definitely wouldn't stop me from coming back. Good food, good beer selection, and overall a solid spot.

I would bring everyone there. When they opened the new location in Windsor , it was still great. It was a birthday outing type of thing. I went again last week, which was likely my final time. For the past few years, I've been giving it a pass... growing pains, maybe? But the food is not what it was. The succulent, juicy brisket that I used to dream of has been dry and cold for the last year or so (probably 3 or 4 visits). The burnt ends, which used to be as addictive, are now no longer made from brisket...but what seems to be cubed chuck...again, dry. Texas sausage and pulled pork are still ok, as are the sides. On top of that, they are always short staffed, and the staff that they do have is not helpful...not friendly.. Just a big NOT anymore. I haven't been to the Hartford or New Haven locations recently, but as far as Windsor is concerned, it will not be going back anytime soon. I don't mind paying the premium prices for quality food and service, but you are no longer premium. Please figure this out. My favorite place no longer exists.. and I really want it to return to the quality of the past.

(as the kids say) It was crowded despite being early evening. The only available seats were at the bar area near the windows, which was fine because we were determined to experience the "new" place. We ordered the tuna tartare and lobstah rolls. The accompanying chips are homemade (slightly salty, but my taste buds are really close together). The host was attentive and gave us the royal treatment. We put this gem back on rotation and we are definitely returning!!!

The textured walls are gorgeous and give the space a style it was definitely missing before. As usual, the happy hour menu never disappoints. The Pomjito is a personal favorite.. refreshing, light, and not too sweet. We also got the oysters and mussels, both solid. The mussel sauce was unique compared to a typical tomato base, which we really appreciated. For my entrée, though, I was disappointed to see that the tuna salad I always order had completely changed. It used to be an arugula salad with Asian flavors and the tuna served on top. Now it It's a Niçoise salad, and the tuna is awkwardly placed on the side. Nothing about the tuna tasted like it did before. I'm usually a sucker for ahi tuna, but this was honestly one of the most disappointing ahi dishes I've ever had. It felt totally incohesive with the salad next to it. I really wish they didn't change the menu so frequently. Once I finally find an entrée I genuinely look forward to, it disappears. That said, we'll still be back for the great happy hour food and solid drinks. Now it's just a matter of finding a menu item I like... and hoping they keep it.

This isn't Lilly's or any of the other "soul food" spots people usually talk about; this is the closest you're going to get to the quality and taste of Sandra's in New Haven. While I can't speak to their proteins, their sides are a masterclass in flavor and soul. My pro move is simple: grab a 20-piece suicide wings from Paul's Ranch House just down the block and pair them with the sides of your choice from here. Dinner is served. It's a fast-food environment, not fine dining, but the taste is elite and fits the budget perfectly. If you want authentic sides that actually hit the mark, this is a mandatory stop.

Again, the protein is made to order so it can take a while if it's busy. I've waited 2 hours before. And even if you do call ahead, they probably won't answer. They're at a new location which has more space but there's no seating available (not a problem). Cashiers have always been friendly.

Great burger, not so great tacos…read more Learned that Catsup and Mustard's chef decided to make a new place tied with urban lodge. I'm always down for a good burger, and catsup was one of the best burgers around. So I made the trek to this locale to relive the greatness. Place is a little walk-up order place. Like a roadside snack shack or a ice cream shop. You put your order in, you get a marker, and a server comes out to deliver your meal. We ordered their Diablo burger, some truffle fries, and one of all their tacos. Knew the burger was going to be good, figured the tacos would be too. They were not, at all. The fish taco smelled very fishy and was underseasoned. So you got this smelly soft fish and chewy taco shell and that's about it. The chorizo taco was more like sweet Italian sausage with no flavor. With the same chewy shell. The cilantro lime chicken taco, the chicken was dry and the bang boom sauce was more of a rice Krispy snap crackle and pop. No punch, very little heat. The mister mack was the best of the bunch, with flavors similar to a cheeseburger. Still a chewy shell, but a good bite. The burger and fries were stellar. The Diablo burger was spicy and juicy, tons of toppings and a very thick patty. Bun was soft, toasted, and everything worked together harmoniously. The truffle fries were fresh cut, soaked, double fried, crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. The truffle was pronounced but not overpowering, and the basalmic catsup and truffle mayo were great dips. If you stick to the burgers, there's lots to love. Avoid the tacos, but the burgers are still really good.

Due to sharing space with the brewery there are plenty of cool comfy places to sit and enjoy. Lost a star due to tacos - keep reading... We don't drink - so we ate during lunch on a Saturday. You order at the outdoor window - then they bring your food to you wherever you may want to sit. Which there are a variety of places and types. Indoor patio, outdoor patio, couches, high tops, low tops, by the darts, or by the board games. Your choice. Location - 5 starts. Burgers and fries - 5 stars. If we had only stopped there. However, we unfortunately ordered the tacos. One of each to try (I love tacos) And all four tacos were not good. Flavors were just not there. Nothing was seasoned, loved the idea of the cheese between the shells, but honestly the execution just made everything chewy. The fish smelled very fishy - which is never good and definitely wasn't blackened - even though it was supposed to be. So tacos - 2 star. However, overall I am definitely going back. Hopefully order something else on the menu and it will be amazing. Great casual atmosphere to hang with some friends. And I am sure the brewery is amazing too!!! So just stay away from the tacos and you are sure to enjoy your time :))
