In between the layers there was cardboard and no icing separating the layers "Yuck"! For the amount I paid, I should have got what I ordered but didn't. Ordered a cake for my 17th birthday that was supposed to be a guitar and amp on a round cake made of fondant and when I received it, it was literally a 2d guitar shape fondant with a paper print out of the guitar on it and on the amp as well. I was very disappointed because I ordered an egg free cake for my daughter's first birthday. My husband and I really put a lot of thought and effort into this cake and communicated this to the bakery on the phone and in emails far in advance. They made the cake with eggs and said they would have to re-make it and it would take 4 hours. It was supposed to be delivered at noon and they called to say they were running late and then called back and said sorry we made it with eggs. This was very unfortunate because we travelled a long distance & our hotel even recommended this bakery. I understand people make mistakes but this was for a child's 1st Birthday and this bakery let her whole birthday party down. Our guests travelled quite a distance for this event to be a disappointment. You'd think they would have come up with a solution themselves because they made the mistake. They also have other goodies other than cupcakes that are very good too. The variety of cupcakes are very appealing and just calls out to you "pick me and take me home for your enjoyment!". Wow what a fun visit! Me and my friend went to buy some cupcakes and although a bunch were already sold like Guava, they could be easily made right away. I had came in to order my son cake again this year and brought in a picture of a cake that I wanted from their instagram. Told them exactly what I wanted and everything, even showed the picture. When I picked it up it wasn't what I showed and said. I asked for sharks, turtles, octopus, whales, under the sea theme with actual animals on it like the picture I showed. When I picked it up it only had the under the sea theme, no animals at all. I asked about the animals and they only put the plastic animals which wasn't what I showed them. If they weren't able to do what I asked, they should have said it from the beginning or not show in their instagram page. Definitely disappointed. Herbert and his team were patient with me and worked with my budget to bake a buttercream single tier cake with fondant accents. Customer service is lacking. There is a $1 minimum service charge for paying by credit card, which isn't displayed anywhere. By the cash register a paper mentions a 4% credit card fee passed onto customers, but doesn't state it's a $1 minimum fee. After realizing this, I asked if I could pay by cash instead. Spoke with the manager and he said I would get charged another dollar for using the card machine to get my refund. Super lame. For the cupcakes, bought two (a red velvet and a tiramisu) and was disappointed. Both cupcakes were very dense and lacked flavor. The tiramisu is a chocolate cupcake with a tiramisu topping and center. I didn't taste any tiramisu. The red velvet similarly lacked flavor; if eaten while blindfolded, you wouldn't guess it was red velvet. Ended up trashing the cupcakes as they were not worth the calories. Prefer Sugarlina and Cakeworks-- better tasting cupcakes and better customer service. Plus, you can use credit cards without the extra service charge. Will not return and do not recommend. read more

I use to really like this place but when I recently visited it and wanted some tiramisu cupcakes they told me they only make them when it's ordered?!?!? What a bust!!! However, their other things are much more satisfying. We like to come here for their brownies, bars and breads. Today they are having a sale on their brownie products and cake breads. Buy one get one free. That is too hard to resist. I chose a peanut butter brownie and a lemon cake. My other half chose a cookies and cream brownie and chocolate pistacio cake. Came here on a Friday to order a Birthday Cake for my sons birthday on a Sunday. Asked for some spider man decorations and was shown my options. Nothing crazy fancy but it met our needs. I truly am on the fence here - STRADDLING THAT FENCE!! I love dessert and all things sweet and comforting so when I do stumble upon one I have really high expectations. I love that there is a sweet shop in my "backyard" for those situations where nothing else will suffice until that sweet craving is quenched but I am also wanting just a bit more from this shop. The cupcakes I purchased two nights ago were just ok. I was waiting to be wowed with the quality of cupcake but I just wasn't. I had the mocha chocolate, maple bacon and tiramisu cupcake and I was truly underwhelmed. With the exception of the tiramisu cupcake the other two were just meh. I could've made that at home and the actual cake, although moist was again - something I could re-create at home and improve on it. It was pretty much flat (not huge with that expected larger than the base kind of topping). I'm wondering if the cupcake liner was just under filled or perhaps the batter just didn't rise. What I ended up with was more flavored frosting with an unequal ratio of cupCAKE to frosting. There was just too much frosting or rather not enough cupCAKE. This dilemma would not have been a problem for my six year old nephew who LOVES frosting and but you see, I am not six and I'm just a fat kid at heart who loves cake. I'm going to strike this first visit up as experimental and although I wasn't a fan of the ratio dilemma, the components deconstructed individually was good. I did note that there were a ton of other things at Cupcake and THINGS Bakery (hence, the name). There was an assortment of different flavored loaves, cookies, donuts and what looked to be parfaits. Cupcake and Things is located in Kapolei on Farrington highway. It is pretty easy to find. The person who helped me was very nice and helpful. I tried a snickerdoodle cupcake and their banana pudding. They call it banana chantilly or something else but essentially it was layered banana pudding. It was soooooooo good. I loved it. Cupcake and Things is the place that I have been ordering my daughter's birthday cakes from for the past three years. The cake decorations and presentation are lovely and beautiful. However, the taste isn't always as great as you think. I continue to order from them though because of how well they are able to accept orders, even last minute ones. I appreciate their long hours of operations. I appreciate the time that Herbert and the decorator takes to explain how the cake decorations will turn out if I want it to look a certain way. Other reviews on Yelp about them not paying attention to emails and instructions from customers are actually true because I went through a similar situation too with them for my daughter's cakes and my graduation cake. There is a lot of parking spaces although it is shared with other businesses in the same building. Also, FYI You are also able to use EBT food stamps to buy desserts!!! Every time I visit this cute little shop, I get lost just admiring all the treats they have neatly displayed on their shelves, chilled showcase, or in their fridges. Even though they limit their customers in the store during this uncertain times, the wonderful staff greeted us with a warm welcome and did not rush us to order. If you want a decent cupcake from time to time, this place is good. We actually buy cupcakes here very often. The cupcakes are definitely hit or miss, but we've narrowed down the flavors we actually like. The pitfalls of this place are lack of organization and a lack of consistency. There have been a number of times when I've dealt with the staff, and they've always seemed unorganized. Be sure to check expiration dates on prepackaged items; I've seen a number of items on the shelves passed their expiration dates. I don't think they have systems in place to check these items regularly. As other reviewers have mentioned, the cupcakes and other items can be hit or miss, even among the flavors we like. Sometimes dry sponge sometimes nice and moist. Sometimes balanced cream sometimes overly sweet. You never really know what your going to get until bite into them. This is not something you expect with premium priced product. Against my better judgement, we decided to order a cake for our daughter's birthday because they were the closest bakery to us during the pandemic. The process was a nightmare from the beginning. I walk in to talk to someone about ordering a bday cake with an image we found online. They couldn't help me because the decorator wasn't there, but I was told someone would call me. 10 days later, still no call, so I walk in again. The guys said the cake we wanted would cost $270! I asked why, and that was the price for a fondant cake that feeds 30. Wait, what? Who said anything about fondant and 30 people. Anyway, I finally got to discuss what we actually wanted, and I was given a price sheet for a two layer themed cake, which was about $69, and they wanted an additional $25 dollars for some cheap cake toys I found on amazon for $8, so I decided to buy some nicer toys for the cake and drop them off later. A few days later, I brought the toys I bought in and discussed in detail what the cake would look like as the woman there (who wasn't very friendly) drew it out and made notes. Ok great, things are finally going somewhere. Then she said the cake would be over $100. By this time, we were down to the wire because the bday was around the corner, and they wasted weeks of my time, so I paid for the cake already. On the day to pick up the cake, I arrived and the cake looked good, except it was quite different from what we discussed, especially because it didn't have any of the toys on it. I asked about the toys, they found them in the bag I dropped them off in, and they threw them on and packaged up the cake. It looked good enough that my daughter loved how it looked! That was the only positive part of the whole experience. When we cut the cake, we noticed two things right away: 1. The sponge was overcooked and 2. The two layers were uneven. The sponges were amateurish at best. The cake was super dry. It was probably the driest cake I've ever eaten. This was the first I've seen kids not want to eat cake! We are super disappointed, especially given how much we paid for the cake. This experience really tarnished their brand in our eyes, and we will not buy from them again in the future. They are charging a premium for a subpar product. If you're looking for a decent cake, you might want to try a different bakery. read more

When I went to pick up the cake, I also picked up their brownie bites and have to say, the brownies were delish! Since the cake was not for me, I didn't get the luxury to try it but it did look tasty and beautiful! I also took a "frequent buyer" card which allows you to get a free cupcake after purchasing 12. My family ordered a cake from this place for my wedding. Mom was charged as a DOUBLE tiered cake (300$) and we received a SINGLE small cake(100$) the person at the counter argued with my family that only a single tiered was ordered however that doesn't add up as we were charged the 300 which equals a two tier. Eventually family was apogized to however there was no help to fixing the problem so we had a tiny cake for a wedding and no discount or anything was offered either. The lady in the back started shouting, so he came back and said no. I asked not even to pipe a picture of a bear?? You know like some Safeway balloons or bear, a flat no I said okay I get it. You guys can't draw obviously, lol no problem. Then I asked about the color he said it won't be metallic I said ok thinking it was rose gold but not shinny. Day of pick up! I get a whole different cake!!! Different color which was a like a lavender purple two layer 8" inch Safeway cake!!! I was blown away. I asked him why does the cake look like that and it ain't even what we paid for and then proceeded to show the pic of the cake I wanted that looked TOTALLY DIFFERENT to reassure us that the cake he gave us was the cake!! He even tried to still give us the two layer cake until I asked he needs to refund us the difference for the three layers. This business is such a joke and then he wanted us to wait so he could fix it after he had the picture right next to it. Lucky I kept our receipt to show what we paid or we would be arguing about what the hell I ordered. The only reason we paid for this business so I wouldn't be stressed out about the cake and boy I was STRESSED. Then this guy had the guts to yell at me over the phone to tell me I need to "listen" cause somehow I was wrong!? Ridiculous. YOU WERE WRONG, POINT BLANK PERIODT and trust me I will never return there. Lucky I had a rose gold flakes I ordered from Amazon and covered the whole cake with it. Oh yeah and I bought gum paste and made my own ball balloons and piped my own strings. Turned out better than what I would've paid you guys to do! read more

Rocky Road, Carrot, German Chocolate This is one of those places where the baked goods look far better than they taste. Unless the few times I have been i simply picked the wrong ones, everything seems dry. Frosting on some are ok, but its hard to get passed how dry they were. It's honestly not worth the money. I make better cupcakes and homemade frosting for a 1/4 of the cost. Recommendation: get some piping tips, youtube how to pipe and make your own cupcakes, you will be far more impressed than what you get here! read more

Still fantabulous!!!! (Yes, a made up word ) I have had nothing but great service for the last several months. The staff is usually baking treats when you arrive, but they come to the front once they hear the door open. If I'm still perusing, I'll let them know when I'm ready. I hadn't been purchasing the sliced cakes that they sit out on the tables until recently, but, let me tell you...I was missing out. I purchased a chocolate chip banana cake and lemon cake. Both were soooooooooo moist--exactly as I like my cake and most any other bread item. It was a hit in the office Monday morning. I tried the red velvet, the carrot cake and the strawberry cupcakes and they were all delicious. I think I even prefer the red velvet cupcake to the slices they have in the fridge and I enjoy it those too. The cupcake seemed to be a bit less rich, so I'll grab that instead if I'm wanting something a bit less heavy or sweet. I also enjoyed the bread pudding. It has a different texture and flavor than a version I've been eating into recently at a local restaurant, but I did enjoy my taste test. I was think I'll try it with a bit of cinnamon and possibly ice cream one day. That'd be a treat. So for my daughters bday she asked for a unicorn cake. She showed me a picture off Pinterest and said I don't want anything else just this cake please. So I started looking assuming I would just get something similar. I called cupcake and things, emailed them the picture from Pinterest and got an immediate response saying yes they can make it and by Saturday it was Sunday. I was so happy and so was she. It was a hit and looked exactly like the picture. All my guest loved her cake and kept asking where I got it from. Highly recommend, u won't be disappointed. read more

Their Oreo cupcakes are the best!!!! All their cupcakes are really good the only one I had an issue with was the fruity pebbles cupcake. The cereal was stale. When I told them they had no problem exchanging it for another. I've already been back 4 more times lol read more
