If a restaurant could be a hug, then it would be the Cupboard Cafe. This special place is located in a cute log cabin. Everything we ate here was deeeelicious. Mary Dee and staff were exceptionally nice, and we just loved coming here...Just wish it had been open on Monday so we could take some cinnamon rolls on the flight home. Let's talk about the cinnamon rolls and the sticky bun, the whoopie pie made by Mary Dee's dad, or maybe the cream puff that had the most decadent filling? They are all *dreamily* perfect. Wish I could eat any of their desserts right now. The fresh OJ was so refreshing with my breakfast sandwich, and my friend said her haddock soup and grilled cheese was amazing. Their bread is made fresh, and the oatmeal bread was so good. We even bought a picnic to go and it just made us smile. It was just as tasty as could be. The Cupboard cafe has been in the family for years and you can taste the care that goes into the items made here. They also use quality ingredients. It's well worth a stop!! Also, check out the cool antique buoy lamps made by local artist, Saltie Souls Design. They are so neat and made with driftwood from the nearby coast. They are truly one-of-a kind! read more

What a gem!!! This place has the most amazing breakfast. Everything was fresh and made to order. My husband and I stumbled upon it during a visit to the Tide pools. My husband had the veggie deluxe sandwich, a side of hash and fresh squeezed OJ. I ordered the Irish sandwich (hash), a cinnamon bun and iced coffee. Everything was delicious. The veggies were so fresh, the baked goods (included the bread) took the prize. Mary Dee the owner was lovely to chat with. Took home a slice of lemon cake, a cookie and have a sheet pan of cinnamon rolls. Definitely worth the visit. Go early before she sells out of buns. We missed out on the sticky buns but gives us a reason to go back!!! read more

Arrived at noon and the sticky buns were long gone. There were 2 cinnamon rolls left so we got one. Had it heated up. Melted in your mouth. I think the key is to arrive early as the sticky buns and cinnamon rolls are coming straight out of the oven to your plate. Then they really would melt in your mouth. The simple exterior is deceptive. The interior is plain, yet the food made from scratch and is very good. We were on a jaunt to explore the area around Christmas Cove and were feeling peckish. The menu was simple and we ordered two sandwich plates (You can order a half or a whole sandwich for most selections), a BLT on Oatmeal bread (which was moist and tasty) and a house speciality called "Fred's Favorite," comprised of roasted chicken, stuffing and cranberry sauce (also on the same delicious Oatmeal bread). Both sandwiches were served with a pickle and a small bag of crisps. While the lunch was delicious and quite filling, we decided to have a piece of the chocolate raspberry cake for dessert. It too was delicious. If you find yourself in the area of New Harbor, stop by 137 Huddle Road. You will be glad you did. The only thing I would change is to add regular water glasses of some sort. Having to refill the Dixie cups at the water cooler during our meal was a bit of an inconvenience. Still, for food this good, at such a fair price, we can overlook the Dixie cups. Recently came here, as I was visiting Bristol from Chicago. Although I'm not even finished with my vacation yet, I'm already obsessing over finding the recipe for the raspberry bars I had here. The top and bottom are a pâte briseé, and the tart raspberry layers are interrupted by a perfectly light cream in the center. I can't conceive of how the middle cream could be baked with the other parts. Is it pre-baked and then assembled? Is it magic? Witchcraft? It's so light and delicate that I can't see how it's possible to not crumble or break any of the flaky crust. I'm telling you, I'm in love with this pastry. I called a few days after leaving to ask for the recipe. If they don't give it to me, I'm going to offer to pay them for it. I'm an addict and I need my fix. The cinnamon rolls were good too, as were the eggs. Coffee was meh but better than other places in the area. I'll update this post after I get this recipe. Oh. My. God. These cinnamon rolls are from heaven. Buttery, melt in your mouth deliciousness. The owner is right at the counter taking orders and getting you coffee with the rest of her awesome staff. Breakfast sandwiches are also melt in your mouth gooey and savory. We sat on the beautiful porch overlooking the trees on a cool and sunny June morning while we were staying at the captains point Airbnb. We drove to see the lighthouse and came here for lunch based on yelp reviews. Really, they deserve 6 stars! Super Friendly staff, homemade everything. The super-friendly owner (?) greeted us and explained the menu and listened and asked questions to clarify our order. Everything was ready super-fast and she brought it out to us on the deck Where we were sitting just as the sun was just coming out. Bread : om nom nom. Sandwich ingredients: fresh fresh fresh. The homemade Mayonnaise had a tiny bit of lemon zest added which was refreshing. Raspberry cream bar: best thing I've ever eaten in my life. It's like eating at your grandmothers house. I came here for the sticky buns - had been reading about them online for what felt like months! Finally I had an opportunity to check this place out, I'm usually a breakfast-at-home guy (I like to eat my toast while wearing slippers and PJs) but when visitors call, we go out vs. having to slave over a hot stove. So we went to the Cupboard Cafe - I went for the sticky buns, my guests for everything else. The staff was VERY nice - big plus, especially in a restaurant that is kind of small. You need to order at the counter first, take a seat and you can help yourself to coffee in the front - good to know! The menu wasn't really anything special - since we were there for breakfast, there were all the usual breakfast suspects to choose from. Eggs, sausage, bacon, quiche - you get the drift. I ordered the sticky bun (duh!) while my friend also got a sticky bun and a half-order of hash with eggs and toast. The sticky bun was quite good - not the BEST I've ever had, but good. Good enough that I'd order it online and ship it to a friend? I dunno about that... The eggs and hash were supposedly good, they did get taken away in a carry-out box so I assume my guest was pleased! Overall this is a good spot for breakfast if you're looking for something casual and satisfying. I myself prefer table wait service, but as long as they have coffee available at the front, I can deal. If you're looking for something a little more formal or sit-down, try Chrissy's in Damarascotta. (Though really if you're looking for a formal breakfast spot, downeast Maine probably isn't the best place for you to be looking. The sticky buns and cinnamon rolls here are absolutely like no other. I have never had a cinnamon roll as soft and buttery as the ones they have here. The hours are a bit strange so make sure to double check and always call ahead to set your bun orders aside because they run out fast. If you're daunted by the price, don't be. Not only are they massive, one could easily feed at least two people, they are so delicious that they're definitely worth it. read more

Great place in this small town. I would definitely come here again. We got the homemade Cinnamon Roll (it's a must) and it was awesome. The half order of corned beef hash was perfect size. It came with homemade toast (I chose the oatmeal toast ... think wheat bread). The pancakes were fluffy and huge. 1 pancake and a cinnamon bun is enough. A rude owner and overpriced food. Now let me explain. I like the food, especially the veggie delux breakfast sandwich, but it's a bit expensive at 10.95. The sticky buns and cinnamon rolls are so good, but again, pretty steep. The place is tiny, about 7 or 8 tables with 3 on the deck. If it's raining, like the day we were there, it's chaos, which leads me to the rude owner. My husband was holding a table for us and two friends when she came over and asked if his party had ordered yet. He said no, but they're next. "Well you'll have to give up the table, there's a queue for them." Hubby said "no problem" at which point we all walked out. She's always a bit snippy, but this takes the cake. Stopped in for a quick lunch, and what a find!! The owner greeted us, and quickly went over the menu, including just how much of what they serve is homemade. A review of their website was the inspiration for us to stop in before our trip out to Monhegan Island from the ferry in New Harbor (just down the road).... I seriously wanted one of their cinnamon rolls based only on the pictures and write ups. We arrived 20 minutes before their 8:00 am opening time which was okay because we had a number of last minute items to manage. Within that 20 minutes, the parking lot started filling up... we were not the only ones planning to be there right at opening time. When the doors opened, we eagerly headed in... after all, we'd been up since 4:00 to make the 1.5 hour drive to the area. The first thing I hit was the Green Mountain coffee. Two choices, regular and decaf. Years ago, Green Mountain was the standard for quality coffee; nowadays, with so many fabulous microbrew-type coffee roasters available, it seems almost old hat. However, it is a known entity - and welcomed that morning. As it turns out, while both the sticky buns and cinnamon rolls looked wicked yummy, I was up for something a little more hardy for breakfast, and from the limited menu chose the Veggie Deluxe sandwich on whole wheat. It came with a fried egg (2?), roasted red peppers, spinach, thin sliced red onions, and other veggies (mushrooms and tomato? I don't remember), and was tasty and filling, although pretty messy to eat. (Some of my spinach ended up on the floor.) My husband had some kind of meat-based fried egg sandwich with a sausage patty thick enough that he pointed it out to me. (He wasn't feeling particularly well, so I can't comment on the flavor of the sandwich - which he didn't finish - but my sense was that had he been in top form, he would have been very pleased.) Because we were limited on time, I wolfed my sandwich and two mugs of coffee, and we were out of there from start to finish in 25 minutes. During that time, the place filled completely - which means maybe as many as 3 dozen eager breakfast-goers. Definitely worth a stop; maybe next time I'll try the cinnamon rolls. read more

Great quaint little place. You order all your food at the counter and they bring it to you. I didn't get a chance to try their famous sticky buns. :(. Make sure you go early because once they're sold out, they're gone! I had an omlet and it was pretty meaty. They're not cheap with what you want in there. I eat a lot and my omlet filled me up! On a weekend trip to Maine and this place was suggested. It was amazing! If I could eat here everyday I would! Highly recommend the Veggie Deluxe breakfast sandwich and the burgers. I don't have much to add to all the other (somewhat frothing) reviews. The food is homemade, and tastes it. The people who operate the place are nice, and will often give the locals a hard time (always good to see). And your meal will be, well, reliable. Year after year, if you order the same dish, it will be as you remembered. They lose a star, in my book, for being a bit stingy on the add-ons. Order the Spinach Florentine, and you will get two eggs, on English Muffins, covered in spinach and cheese sauce, and nothing else. For almost $10, I would at least like some hash browns, or something, on the side. Order a lunch sandwich, and behold the smallest pickle and most meager bag of chips you will ever see (literally, my bag had 6 chips). Not a big deal, but I always leave a bit hungry. They do offer desserts, but the good stuff goes fast (and, besides which, would push my caloric intake to critical levels). I would also add that I wish they would serve breakfast a little bit later, in conjunction with lunch, but they are strict about their cut-off. Now, I am giving them a 4 star review, so, obviously, I like the place; however, with all the "best place in the world" reviews that I am seeing on here, I wanted to give a bit of balanced perspective. read more

Just got back from our second summer vacation at New Harbor and this year the Cupboard reigned supreme as the best place to eat in the area, breakfast, lunch, and now pizza for dinner. Awesome local feel. The owner is so incredibly fun to chat with and kind. You walk away feeling like she remembers you. That's amazing service. Oh yeah...the most important thing is the sticky buns and cinnamon buns in the morning. We've heard great things about them and they live up to the hype. THEY ARE DELICIOUS! Plenty of sit down space. Supper clean. Fun lunch menu. You'll be happy every time. If you're in another area, I'd recommend driving an hour to this place. Nice bun and coffee for the drive back to wherever.
