I took three beautiful women (solid 8's) to the new mimosas bar. The women loved it. You can pick a juice and a syrup. Yummy. For me, the manly man, I built a virgin bloody mary. It had an umbrella and a pickle, but it was too big, hehe. We were seated with 2 min of arrival. The braveheart comes with brisket, it was amaz craz. Great service, very polite. Not too chatty. Women's and mens bathroom were clean. Hint double check the doors look very very similar. read more

Cup Cafe - Stuffed dates chorizo wrapped in bacon. Missing one as I forgot to take the photo beforehand. It was good while it was warm. - New American Near Me - Tucson, Arizona

I had the best meal and service I've had in a long long time in Tucson! During COVID, many restaurants I've experienced pretty much serve the same thing day after day, but wow, the diver scallops meal I had today was awesome! Scallops were done perfectly, they melted in my mouth, and the sauce and side of veggies and rice were a perfect compliment. Our server was very cordial, easy to talk to, and did not rush us at all. He even made sure the sun was not directly on us and moved the umbrella without us even asking. That's service! They respected COVID guidelines and did not pack people in on the patio, there was generous spacing between tables. It was just a perfect evening for the two of us. Highly recommended. read more

If you want somewhere cool eclectic to bring out of town guests for a brunch...go here! As long as its not summer sit on the patio and enjoy people watching. I usually get whatever quiche special they have and it never disappoints. I also had the best moscow mule I've had like... ever ...here. My DH always gets the cajun breakfast and somehow eats it all. Great service for people who have to work in a haunted hotel :D read more

Lately I have been on a real winning streak with hotel restaurants. Staying in Hotel Congress, I enjoyed everything from late night dinners to hearty breakfasts from Cup Cafe, and all were top notch. It gets a ton of business from people not staying in the hotel, and I can see why. After all of my meals in Tucson, my favorites probably came from Cup Cafe. This old school diner has a simple but delicious menu. I had an awesome breakfast of steak and eggs, and it definitely hit the Ron Swanson spot. The one mistake I made was swapping out the potatoes for fruit. Definitely not Swanson of me, and the fruit was pretty uninspired. Tasteless melon is definitely not preferable to potatoes. Still, the steak and eggs were delicious. One night I had a burger to go. Topped with bacon and bleu cheese, it was delicious! Again cooked exactly as I had ordered, it was juicy and quite substantial. The cheese was quite pungent, but hey I like stinky cheese! Fries on the side were delicious. Late night tacos? Heck yeah! My pork belly tacos were probably my highlight of all the meals. The pork was amazingly crispy, and the jicama slaw and pickled peppers complemented it all perfectly. I could have probably eaten twice as much, but that might say more about my inability to control portions rather than their offering. Cocktails were tasty, to be sure. I had a couple of scotch drinks and a couple of mezcal drinks. I can't remember much about them beyond the fact that I loved them, but alas, that's the nature of drinking. Service was definitely on point on all visits. Seriously, this place is a winner. Great food, service and atmosphere. Win win win. read more

I have been here several times since moving to Tucson almost two years ago. It was one of the very first places I went to eat for breakfast in TUS (my favorite meal to eat out for). Every time we have been to eat here, it is always extremely consistent, fresh, and delicious. The restaurant is clean, patio is always beautiful (and the heaters are especially nice on those beautiful but slightly chilly days). The Bloody Marys are excellent, the coffee is some of my favorite in the city, and our servers are always wonderful. I know I am an extremely picky person about going out to eat somewhere, but this place is a shining example of how a restaurant should be run, and the rest of Tucson should take note. There is a reason this place is a standard and staple in this town, and a reason people go back time and time again. read more

This place is a happening breakfast joint! There was a wait when we got there, so we went next door to the Congress bar for a bloody mary, which was good, but nothing compared to Cup Cafe's bloody mary! It was a fresh burst of flavor with an added kick of spice... my kind of bloody mary! Once we got sat outside on the patio, which was pleasant considering Tucson's year round sunshine weather, we order and was presented with generous portions of good food. It has been a few months since my last visit, and I am craving a second! read more

In a word... eclectic. What else would you expect from a historic hotel where once one of the country's most infamous criminal's was caught. Oh wait, that's the Hotel Congress. The Cup Café is simply the dining arm of that establishment. The same word applies... Let's start with... cocktails. My Sazerac was really good. They were recently noted for their craft cocktails in the local newspaper. Followed by appetizers... The Heartbreaker. Warm brie, sliced apples, roasted garlic, grilled artichokes and a jalapeño jelly. Pile it all on the little toasts provided and,,, yes, yes, yes. IMO the highlight of the meal. Although my choice of Fish and Chips with spicy tartar sauce was not so out-of-the-box for me, my wife surprised me and ordered the, server suggested, Chicken and Gnocchi. The reason I was surprised.... she hates mushrooms. Mushroom/goat cheese duxelle was a featured part of the dish, along with gnocchi. Kudos to her for being adventurous. She said she did not taste the goat cheese. She let me taste her dish and I agree. The gnocchi was also a little dense and not pillowy as it should be. My fish and chips were good but not the best I have had. The spicy tartar sauce was really good. Their breakfast and lunch menu has me really intrigued. We really gotta get downtown more... read more

I've come here for breakfast on Saturday and Sunday mornings, and it is usually very busy, but it's definitely worth the wait. If you are totally starving and can't wait the 35 minutes for a table, you can always grab a place at the bar which is first come first serve, and the service is much faster at the bar. So far for breakfast I've ordered the Gunpowder and the Creole Breakfast. Both are massive dishes and definitely fill you up. I've got to admit, Cup Café is my favorite place for breakfast downtown because they serve a legitimate full-fledged breakfast. Also, this is the place to cure a hangover - the Bloody Mary's at Cup Café are the best in Tucson! They even set up a separate Bloody Mary bar at the Congress Lobby Bar so that you can order one without actually having breakfast! read more

I've always heard people rave about this place so I decided to try it out one Sunday afternoon. We arrived at around 1pm to a moderate crowd. Our wait was estimated at 20-30 minutes. We sat at the bar and ordered the famous bloody marys. After waiting plus 10 minutes for them, we were informed that our table was ready and that they would be brought to the bar. Our bloody marys were "boring" compared to everyone else. We didn't have any type of garnish. Also, there was a hair in mine and instead of getting a new one, I opted for water. The food was absolutely scrumptious. I can't remember the name of the dish but it involved turkey chorizo and cheese. My only complaint was that I went to the Cup during a charity event in Hotel Congress' courtyard and was greeted by loud, energetic children running around, along with live music. Not so great for my hangover. Overall it was a pretty pleasant experience. Service was a tad slow. I'm sure I'll be back. read more

Cup Cafe is really delicious. Two thumbs up from me and my husband. We went for a Saturday brunch and the wait was reasonable (20 minutes). The bloody marys were great, as was the food. I highly recommend the beef brisket - they smoke it out back themselves. The staff was also very great - and even gave us helpful tips on what to do with our vacation in Tucson. read more

I had a really good experience at the Cup. It's been years since I've been here for food. Our group decided on brunch and someone said "Let's try the Cup." We had a fun waiter who gave me a hard time when I asked "Do you guys have mimosas?" They have an open bar, even in the morning. I enjoyed my Huevos Rancheros (for $9.50). The flavors were pretty amazing. The tortillas were just right, and the cheeses were so tasty. The hotel potatoes were cooked just right, not hard or falling apart, with a gentle seasoning on top and a few red and green bell peppers were thrown in for color and flavor. The orange juice I shared with my husband tasted fresh squeezed. My husband made his own omelet from the Congressional Omlete Bar (which was not a bar, it's just a name). This is his favorite thing to do, so I was hoping it'd be good. He added some sausage, bell peppers, some asadero cheese and tomatoes. He was so pleased when he had his first bite. He also got hotel potatoes and cleaned his plate. The rest of our group got food that they loved and everyone cleaned their plate. Especially the guy who got the Gunpowder (turkey chorizo, eggs asadero cheese). His was stacked in a bowl and looked huge, my friend really enjoyed the flavors. We were treated good, had a nice time and our meals were not overly expensive, even though the Cup feels a little ritzy. read more

What an awesome place! I am going to have a hard time with this review because I can't remember what I ordered or what my friend had. I was more caught up in our conversation than the names. It was all outstanding. We had to wait about 5 minutes but ordered up bloody marys to drink in the meantime. Delicious. We got a seat and had excellent service. The water was topped off, the coffee smelled delicious and was refilled often. We had amazing specials. My friend had an omelette that was packed with goodies but she didn't let me try, very naughty of her. My meal consisted of two eggs (sunny side up) buried on amazing potatoes and turkey chorizo with sourdough bread. Holy cow! So good! The potatoes were sweet. The bread was really good and often bread is just an after thought at these places. I devoured mine. The eggs were not too runny which I liked, cooked to perfection. For two bloody marys and two meals (abotu $10 a piece for the meals) our bill was split at $40. I'll be back to the Cup ASAP read more

This place unique to check out and have great menu selections. The patio furniture, dishes, and menus are very old and badly need updating. It definitely took away from wanting to eat there. My husband ordered an egg white omelet - no cheese. It came with cheese. They ordered him a new one, but the second one was not even an omelet. I felt the server didn't really care and wasn't really into helping us. read more

As far as I'm concerned, this is a Tucson breakfast must. No, it's not the fanciest menu, just really good, relaxing breakfast in a historic setting. Cup Cafe is hands down my favorite breakfast in Tucson. I can't believe it took me so long to try it out. Their breakfast potatoes are excellent. Everything is excellent. The inside is so beautiful and stylish. It was actually less pricey than I expected, and still worth every penny. Have yet to try lunch or dinner, but if their breakfast is any indication, I'm sure I'll be in heaven. read more

Awesome little breakfast spot. Spent about 2 hours in Tucson recently and decided to stop by here for a late breakfast, and I'm sure glad we did! The decor in the hotel and cafe was great, very unique and welcoming. I wish I could have that wine bottle chandelier in my apartment! The cast-iron eggs were unbelievably good! Even after accidentally burning myself on the skillet (they weren't joking when they said they were hot) I thoroughly enjoyed every last bite of my meal. The fruit on the side was fresh and delicious and the rye bread was awesome as well. Can't wait to return next time I'm in Tucson! read more

...I spend far too much time here. Hotel congress, it's bars and it's cafe, are my home away from home. Rock and roll Tucson vibes, food of an amazing quality, top notch bartenders, everyone's happy. The huevos rancheros are the best I've ever had...anywhere. Fish tacos at happy hour are $5 and crispy and delicious. For dinner the menu is always changing, a rotation of fresh, unique, heart meals. I dream about this place and come back every time I visit Tucson....for almost every meal. read more

Great breakfast. If you get the pancakes, have them put fresh blueberries inside. Fantastic!

Outstanding breakfast. Have been there 4 times and I my favorite is the Braveheart. The only downside to eating here is parking and walking to get to it, but once inside the decor is classy and the outside patio eating area is nice. I also like to eat alone at the bar sometimes and am treated very kindly. Customer service has been kind/friendly and food excellent and quick. Will continue to eat here! read more

I maybe a bit bias because I used to work here, but it has changed a lot since then so I think it is fair to put in my two cents. I have always loved Hotel Congress and this is a consistently great place to eat. One of my favorite foods of all time, the Thompson Automatics, were discovered here. Although, sadly, they no longer have these on the menu. I think this place is the best breakfast place in Tucson. The patio is perfect for a Sunday morning brunch, as is the accompanying bloody mary bar. Although, Sunday's are manic, the continual supply of Arbuckles coffee makes it worth the wait. It is delicious and locally roasted coffee. The Gunpower and the Cast Iron Baked Eggs and the Huevos Rancheros are all winners. The Cast Iron is absolutely to die for. Luckily, they have a fruit plate you can also order so you don't feel so guilty about the cream. The Deposition offers the traditional American breakfast and is great when you want sweet and savory. One of the best things though is the custom omelet's you can make up yourself. All in all, a fantastic and worthwhile stop in Tucson and they serve breakfast until 4pm. As far as the lunch menu, the Tortilla soup and hotel salad are old favorites as is the Nicoise salad and the Real Thing. All of which have been on the menu for years, which is a good sign that these are still in demand. If you go for dinner, grab the Heartbreaker and the Depot Salad, both also have been on the menu for years, all be it, a few changes have been made. For dessert, the Banana Cake and the Peanut Butter cheesecake are to die for. I always make a point of going back to this place when in Tucson. read more

I would consider this a higher scale restaurant with service I'd expect at McDonald's. First, when I sat down in my chair I sat in a rather large amount of jelly, mind you its afternoon time, so it has had plenty of time to sit in the sun and turn into an almost glue-like consistency . Okay, fine accidents happen but definitely off putting. We then proceed to wait close to thirty minutes to place our food order and another large amount of time for our food to come out. By this time all our drinks are empty and never once did we get a refill, even after asking. I also never received any salad dressing with my salad and never saw the waitress again to ask for some. So I preceded to eat my dry $15 salad, without the dressing because at this time I am starving and not happy. For a close to $50 lunch tab for two people I would expect far better service. I will never be returning here. read more

What a gem - my wife and I stopped here for breakfast after reading the reviews on Yelp. The place is very creative. The lighting fixtures made up of empty wine bottles. The floor is made up of pennies. I had the "Braveheart" - smoked beef brisket on sourdough toast with grilled tomatoes, spinach, Gruyère cheese and two poached eggs topped with sausage gravy. It was so good, we returned here before leaving Tuscon so I could have it again. My wife had the "Cast Iron Baked Eggs" - two eggs, ham, leeks and Gruyère cheese, baked in cream. read more

I had wanted to try the Cup for years but my friends in Tucson live on the other end of town and construction on the 10 was a deterrent. Recently, I met a friend there for dinner and while the meal was acceptable, it was nothing notable. But, breakfast. You always hear about breakfast at the Cup so this past weekend when we enjoyed a girls' overnight at Star Pass, I insisted on breakfast at the Cup since we were so close. We would have fared better at IHOP. We called around 9 a.m. to make a 10 a.m. reservation (if possible) and were told it would be closer to 11. Perhaps if their servers moved a little more quickly they could turn tables faster. The ambiance is so cute. Both times I was on the patio which is a narrow strip facing a parking lot but for some reason has character. After trying to let our server know we were on a bit of a schedule by suggesting we would want to order even before our sixth guest arrived, we were barely given the opportunity to order drinks. I desperately mouthed "can we please order?" to our server and still a few minutes passed before she actually came by for our selections. I had to ask for coffee refills and my water glass remained empty - I wound up drinking my friend's glass. It took nearly an hour to order and get our meals and no one even checked to see if we had what we needed once our food was delivered. I had an omelet and it was fine but the service was so dismal it sucked any enjoyment out of the meal. There are other restaurants where there are long waits (Matt's, Pizzaria Bianco) and I will gladly wait for memorable meals. There are places with sucky service (Orange Table) but, the food makes it impossible to vow never to return. Sadly, if I never go back to the Cup, I will not miss anything. And, I am so disappointed because I really wanted to like this place. read more

Okay, there is only one reason Cup Cafe doesn't get five stars: the price tag. Let me tell you a story. One night we met friends for dinner before a concert at the Rialto and decided on Cup Cafe. They were open when lots, no... most, downtown restaurants were closed. After the waiter described the daily special, it was no question -- we wanted the special steak. And, oh man was it special. I mean mouth wateringly good. We also enjoyed two coctails each, and both were supremely delicious. Were we less greedy, we could have shared and split our dinner and drinks. And, actually, our friends did just that -- they shared a plate. So, we're ready for our check and we think, "this won't be so bad, we got the special!" Apparently special means "especially expensive" because it was far and away the most expensive menu item they had. After paying our jaw-dropping bill and giving my wallet a minute to recover, I remembered how good the steak was and felt a little bit better. I suppose had we been prepared to pay more than $100 for two people it wouldn't have been as bad, but we've been to the Cup Cafe for before. We've always paid an average price for a moderate sit-down restaurant. We haven't been back since, but I think that's mostly because we needed to recover from the financial blow! read more

My boyfriend and I went there for dinner one Saturday night and were seated on the patio which overlooks a courtyard that has occasional events. The weather was lovely and the service was great. We ordered the falafal lettuce wraps appetizer which was fantastic, and we each had a cheeseburger and fries. In short, it was THE BEST cheeseburger I have ever had. The bun was fresh and delicious, the meat was seasoned perfectly and they cooked it exactly how I asked. It was huge so I ate half and the leftovers were just as good the next day. The fries were okay. We went back two weekends later and I got fruit with my burger. If you like a good burger, definitely check it out. :) read more

Just left and had one of the most fabulous dinners I've had in a looooong time!!! First, the table shared the warm Brie & the 3 hummus plate and both were great. But me entree was really out of this world!!! The pork chop is melt in your mouth amazing, with just the right blend of crisp outside and buttery amazing center. And it's served with mashed potatoes and a gingersnap cookie cream sauce that was subtly sweet and beautifully complimented the meat. I wanted to swim in it & lick my plate clean. The dessert we shared was a chocolate mousse that was also great, but really paled compared to the pork chop. Honestly, best pork chop I've ever had (but don't tell my husband I said that...he BBQs and might get his feelings hurt) :) read more

Came here Sunday morning with my wife for breakfast. The hostess informed us that the wait was about 30 min for a table and we could wait in the lobby or at the bar. Ok fair enough. After waiting in the lobby 30 min we decided to move to the bar. We waited another 30 min for our table while sitting at the bar. Thats when we noticed about 5 clean empty tables in the restaurant. Fair enough. After about another 15 min waiting i asked the hostess if we could sit at one of the empty tables. In a rude tone of voice she mentioned that we needed to wait our turn. When the manager came around, he was equally rude and ignorant. We ended up eating at the narrow and cramped bar. To their credit however i will say that the rest of the staff was good and the food was good. Thanks. read more

Went here twice in two days while visiting. A real gem. Everybody in both parties fully enjoyed their meals and drinks! Had Bloody Mary. Light on vodka but was very tasty! Next day we had coffee and lattes. Again very tasty. Had the gunpowder (turkey chorizo, potatoes and eggs) pretty tasty. I thought the turkey chorizo would be more turkey-like, but it tasted exactly like chorizo! Second day I got the huevos rancheros. These were even better. I really want to give the Cup more stars, I really do. Their carrot cake will save your soul. The only problem? The service I had one night. Usually I have gone with friends in the morning or for lunch and have never had a problem. I love their baked brie, roasted red pepper sandwich (forgot the name) and gunpowder and eggs. Love them! However, my husband and I went for dinner on December 26th of 2009 and as soon as we walked up, I got a weird vibe. We asked the hostess for seating and with her barely concealing an eye roll, we were seated at the crappy two seater right by where the wind blows in from the door in the lobby and nestled in-between the servers computer and the dessert carousel (we got there at 8:45...not exactly the dinner rush). Looked around and there was more appropriate seating available for two but we were starving and didn't feel like making an issue of it....until our server kept disappearing. And my tortilla soup got ice cold due to the continued opening of the lobby door not 6 feet away. We tried to ask the hostess where our server was, due to needing more than one re-fill in an hour and got the eye-roll again. Lesson? If you come in the morning or for lunch, expect excellent service, no matter what. If you come at night and don't have your hipster arm tattoos showing or a scarf on when it's 72 degrees out, expect to be treated like trailer trash, even though you ordered $80 worth of food for 2 people. PS-I hated writing this review as I am not a fan of disparaging local businesses but you know what? A tiny bit of courtesy would have been nice. Don't treat me like I'm a tourist just because I wasn't dressed like one of the cool kids who hang out at Club Congress on a Saturday night. read more

On January 8th, an auspicious day gone awry (to say the least), I met an old high school friend downtown for lunch. Like any true Russian, she was in the mood to start drinking before noon, and so she suggested heading to Cup Cafe for their mimosas. Food and alcohol in the restaurant attached to my favorite club venue in Tucson? It didn't take much effort on her part to convince me. I can't remember for the life of me what she got, but the Croque Senor that I got was spectacular -- easily my favorite rendition of the Croque Monsieur/Madame ever. Yeah, it starts with the standard toasted ham and gruyere cheese sandwich, but then they smother it in bechamel and melted Oaxacan cheese (mozzarella-like in texture and taste) to the point that you can't even see the sandwich. It's like looking at a 7x7x2 block of molten cheese, which, if you have a pulse, should have you more aroused than The Situation in a hall of mirrors. If you're feeling particularly naughty, you can upgrade to a Croque Senora and get a sunny egg on top, so that in addition to the bechamel and cheese, you can have velvety egg yolk cascading down the sides of your sandwich. Hell. Yes. The mimosas were good, but at $8 a glass, I can't say that I recommend them for everyone. We ended up getting two each, which in retrospect was a big budget mistake. I wish I could recommend other things, but I haven't been back since that first visit (negative associations with January 8th, perhaps?). but if you're in the downtown area and you're craving something simple and decadent, do the Croque Senor/a at Cup Cafe. read more

I love this place!! The ambiance is fantastic, probably my favorite space in the downtown area, and the food is delicious! Both breakfast and dinner have blown my mind. The servers seem mature and upscale. The cocktails are a little hit or miss, but they're always interesting. For breakfast, I recommend the Eggs & Gunpowder (the chorizo sausage in this dish is amazing). I once had this incredible goat cheese, polenta, and portobello dish for dinner that I've since dreamt about for years. As far as appetizers go, the Heartbreaker (baked brie, garlic, apple slices, marmalade, etc. platter) is to die for. This is a 3.5 star review. I have an odd relationship with Cup. I love the location. I love the patio. I like the food. The service is hit or miss. On the last visit, our waiter was sooo slow. But I did witness a waitress who was busting her butt to take care of her tables, and help us when she could. I actually saw our waiter completely ignore another gentleman in his section, who after 10 minutes got up and left. I don't blame him. The food is good, not spectacular, but good, solid food. However, I do feel the menu has been narrowed down and limited lately. I don't know. I hope it is a phase. I will continue to come back.... until I get ignored for 10 minutes. That will be my last visit. Let's hope it doesn't come to this. read more

I have been here three times in the last month and a half or so and I keep getting the same thing: skillet baked eggs! With a gruyere cream leek sauce. And ham. Holy crap. It is so freaking delicious. We ate here this morning for breakfast and it was as amazing as always! The service is usually spot-on, however we had a server today who was pretty inattentive and left us alone for a while with empty glasses. But the other two times, I have had the same server....Allison maybe?....and she has been great! Quick to make sure we have what we need and offer refills on waters and tea. But, and ask my boyfriend about this, you need to take me advice and get the skillet baked eggs. He didn't the first time we went, even though strongly encouraged him to, and while his omelette was cooked perfectly and was moist and huge and delicious and fresh, once he tried my eggs he said he should have followed my advice. Just saying. Go try the skillet baked eggs! read more

Hard to find this place because of the construction and you have to go inside a building to find the entrance. Watch out for the parking officers! Had the skillet egg dish with gruyere cheese. It was unlike anything I had before and overall I enjoyed it. Started out as a soupy dish and kind of a mess. But by the end of the dish I got to sop up the cream with my bread and that was sooo good! My friend got a more classic pancakes, eggs, and bacon. It looked good. The latte was OK, but nothing like a nice coffee shop. Its a shame when you have a $20K simonelli espresso machine capable of making the best espresso, and they you let it all go to waste by not buying good beans or taking the time to learn how pull a shot and steam milk. And then serve it in a coffee mug to put the nail in the coffin. Oh well add this place to the list of places with good food and average coffee. Would have been 3/5, but the unique skillet dish makes it worth the trip, so 4/5. read more
