Since second grade I've had glasses and later, contacts. I am 72 and had cataracts, astigmatism and I was near and far sighted. When I look now through my old glasses I get knocked on my a**. I'm an artist so this was inconvenient at the very least. My coke-bottle bottom glasses were wearing holes in the bridge of my nose. Dr. Skoog gave me surgery for cataracts, Medicare paid for it. At the same time I additionally had to get Toric lenses for astigmatism and they were $1100 per eye, totally worth it. Do you want to see, or don't you? Seeing is good. In case I was shaky or iffy about Dr. Skoog, my brother and some of his friends had had surgery with him. My sister-in-law researched him aggressively and found him superb.

I was scheduled another appointment 6 months later that I canceled. I had no real complaints at the time and didn't feel the need for that appointment. When I called to make my annual appointment today I mentioned that I thought it was due. I said that I hadn't heard anything from them."Haley" the person I was talking to was very rude and said they leave it up to the patient to call contact them after a cancellation. She was not friendly and was accusatory. I said never mind I will go somewhere else and hung up. I couldn't find any phone number to talk to anyone else about this so here I am. Empire Eye should hire more professional staff. They lost a patient today. They get 1 star for today's experience.

Tamara was great in performing my pre-tests and Dr. Shurtz quickly put my mind at ease regarding the changes in my eyes since my last prescription. One of the real gems in their office is Jackie, the optician. I hate choosing glasses and my last pair of glasses were ugly and didn't fit right, so I seldom wore them and used readers. Jackie was incredible in kindly educating me regarding my choices and helped me select a great pair of progressive lens glasses (from a surprising selection) and I got a pair of driving glasses at the same time. She is a lot of fun to work with. One of the first things I noticed when I changed from readers to glasses was how clear everything looks! I should have done this way earlier. I highly recommend these guys and will be back again next year.

The good: Everyone was incredibly friendly! Every interaction I had from the front office staff, to…read morethe technician who started my exam, to the doctor, and the woman who helped me pick out glasses, was pleasant. The customer service was genuinely excellent. The not-so-good: Before my appointment, I was told they couldn't provide an accurate breakdown of what my insurance would cover until I arrived. I have good vision insurance, and my annual exam should only require a copay. While the exam itself was covered with the copay, I was also charged $100 for a contact lens fitting. At every previous optometrist I've seen, that fitting has been billed to my insurance and covered, so this was an unexpected expense. The doctor also recommended dilating my eyes. I mentioned that previous optometrists have told me my pupils naturally dilate enough that it usually isn't necessary. He said he'd like to dilate them at a future visit just to be thorough. I then asked whether they offered retinal imaging instead, since I've had other offices include that as part of the exam. They do have the machine, but I was told it would cost an additional $40. Overall, I had a positive experience with the people and felt well cared for during the exam. However, I left feeling like there were several unexpected add-on charges throughout the visit. While the staff was wonderful, the overall experience left me feeling a bit nickeled-and-dimed, and unfortunately that makes me hesitant to return.

I originally was turned away from another local eye clinic when trying to get an appointment via their triage line, and then in desperation, walking in, both receptionists there were brusk and borderline rude, making it seem as if it was a favor to get me scheduled for later that week. My issue was much more time-sensitive; I had lacerated my cornea. I ended up going to Providence Urgent Care in Spokane Valley, and they were also exceptional. They got me taken care of to the best of their expertise, then ended up getting me an appointment later that morning at Blink. The physician I saw at Urgent Care told me how great everyone at Blink Eyecare is; he shared that it is where he and his family go. Everyone from the receptionist to the optometrist whom I saw was kind, caring, professional, efficient, and made a less-than-ideal situation much better. They took care of me quickly and explained everything clearly as they addressed my needs. They assessed my injury, cleaned my eye, and were able to provide a contact lens band-aid with medicine to help heal my cornea. The optometrist communicated with me throughout the entire visit, and the receptionists scheduled me for a follow-up appointment 48 hours later. Once again, everyone was fantastic at the follow-up visit, and I can tell from all interactions that Blink Eyecare is a terrific business and service within our community.

Then I asked about some lenses and she made a comment asking if I even wanted a price of if it was a waste of time because they would be more out of pocket than at Costco. Dr. Myers is very thorough and makes sure you are getting the best care. A newer addition to their clinic is a sweet gal named Charlotte who helped me pick out new glasses. She is so nice and helpful. She helped me try on so many frames, giving honest feedback and helped me pick out the best frames for me. I felt like I was shopping with a friend. I can't imagine ever going anywhere else. Our children are grown now and can go anywhere. They choose to continue to go here because they love the service and support that we have received over the years and continue to receive. Highly recommend!

Then office manager Heather refused to release my medical records until I paid for it. This is against HIPAA and Idaho law and down right dishonest and unethical. They lied and manipulated me solely to add the extra charge (likely so Mary could earn a commission). They cared only about their money, not my finances. Buyer beware.
