Today (4/21) I had Cummings Construction tear up my old driveway and install a new one. My old one was about 20-25 years old and was sorely needed. I had a great experience working with Frank and his team at Cummings Construction. I had worked with another builder on my driveway and they did a messy job in the end and I needed to find someone who could help me fix it. Frank was able to come out within a week to check things out and propose a solution to fix the asphalt edge and had a great team come to do the work in one morning. It was the end of the season and partway through the job, the weather changed for the worse and during the winter, the edge on part of the ashpalt started crumbling, Frank was very responsive and said he would get it fixed as soon as the asphalt plant reopened for the season. Sure enough, within a couple of days of reopening he had the original crew there and they did a fantastic job and I could not be happier with my driveway. The crew were all very kind and respectful of neighbors and passing cars and Frank was so great to deal with. I highly recommend this team - they are top guys! read more

We just had a great experience. The most efficient, hardest working crew I have ever had work at my home. Owner was on the job all day and ran most of the heavy equipment. Equipment arrived night before. Crew was on the job at 7:30 AM and worked until 7 PM. My 3200 SF driveway was completely removed, taken away, new gravel added, graded, rolled, compacted and repaved in 11 1/2 hours of continuous work. My wife and I watched all day and were so impressed at how hard working, precise and respectful of our property the crew was. Their work was exceptional. Long and winding Driveway repaving project Weston CT. I was asked to help as the project manager and caretaker of a beautiful estate in Weston CT. I was tasked with overseeing all phases of a very difficult driveway repaving project on a long, winding and very challenging private driveway. I first researched on Google, DuckDuckGo, and Yelp all competent Driveway construction firms in the Stamford CT and Fairfield Country CT area, a total of over 10 top Driveway repaving companies. 3 company representatives never showed up at the agreed-upon time. 3 companies came in with quotes that were over 50% higher than the lowest quotes. Bob Cummings is the second generation owner of Cummings construction. I recommend him and all his workers. They have repaired driveways for at least four of my neighbors. All are very pleased with his work. Mine was a wreck as it hadn't been repaired in fifteen years! It's a large driveway with entrance, exit, and large area in between. My problems were myriad, including eruptions with grass growing through the asphalt and areas that contained puddles where ice formed in the winter. I interviewed three companies and chose Bob because of his honestly and assurances that he could fix all problems. His workers were professional, polite and worked diligently under Bob's instructions who was there each day. I thought I was a perfectionist but Bob took it to the next level! This company underbid all others. A common driveway as created for 5 homes. For the first two years (and 2 winters) the road held up satisfactorily. However, beyond those 2 years significant potholes developed. Neighbors repaired the damage, but this last winter basically destroyed the driveway. It is basically one long pothole. I spent months trying to find the right driveway contractor. My 1999 house's driveway only lasted 10 years because of a shoddy installation, so I studied the fine details of how to get a good driveway installed. I wanted to make sure my new driveway would last. I wanted to replace the entire base with a new deep base and asphalt. Then one day in 2014, Cummings shows up UNINVITED. He had already dug up much of my driveway before I arrived home. I hadn't hired him nor agreed to a price nor agreed to what I wanted. Cummings said there was a misunderstanding. I know he was anxious to move his equipment to a new job rather than bring it to his office. Wow, he was TOO ANXIOUS! Reluctantly, with no other good alternatives since my driveway was already destroyed, I agreed to pay $14,250 for a 3/4 gravel and 1/4 asphalt driveway. This included a 2 year "guarantee". During the second winter (less than two years later), my driveway developed a significant crack. Cummings checked it out a few months later. He wondered if the earth had shifted??? He had a guy use a torch to heat the crack and "repair it" in about 15 minutes. This is the worst guarantee ever. Does Cummings think filling the crack is a proper solution? Next winter, the crack grew even larger, wider and led off in a new direction, too. I've called Cummings 3 times over last 6 months but he hasn't repaired the crack. He has claimed: 1) he is busy, 2) it has been over 2 years (even though this is the original 1.5 year crack what was never sufficiently repaired) and 3) I should have sealed the driveway. This shoddy work has cost me many, many hours of stress. I hate to make such a big deal about the crack, but worry that I'm a sucker for accepting the shoddy work. I expect I'll be stuck with a large bill to fix my whole driveway sooner than I should. Why couldn't Cummings have just done a good job in the first place??? Repairing the shoddy work may require digging up the asphalt and base and starting over again. All so Cummings could save a few bucks with less base or less asphalt than required. I've backed up all my text messages with Cummings and taken pictures. I've prepared my submission for small claims court. SUCH A PAIN! JUST WHICH HE DID A GOOD JOB! Cummings has been back a couple times and proclaimed the crack fixed. But each winter the crack grows. Now (Jan 2018) 20 feet! I showed Cummings new pictures of the crack and he responded via text "Listen you were instructed to maintain the driveway as putting wax on your car. You're hard headed know-it-all ass didn't want to listen to The Professional but yet and still you can run off at the mouth and try to assassinate someone's character now you handle that driveway the best f****** way you know how mr. Know it all" Cummings insists I should have sealed the driveway to prevent this problem. read more
