Old Detroit Burger Bar has a fun location right in downtown Lapeer, surrounded by locally owned…read morebusinesses. After lunch, it's easy to spend some time walking around, grabbing ice cream, checking out the nearby thrift shop, or just relaxing on one of the shaded benches under the trees and enjoying the small-town atmosphere. The restaurant itself has a cool bar vibe with dark wood, automotive-themed décor, and plenty of Detroit-inspired burger names. Even on a Friday afternoon, the place was busy with people enjoying drinks, so I can definitely see it being a popular hangout. The service was excellent. Our waitress was attentive, checked on us often, and kept our pop refills coming without us ever having to ask. Our food arrived quickly, hot, and fresh. The burgers were large, juicy, and had some creative topping combinations. I ordered one topped with a fried egg, expecting the yolk to add richness like it usually does on a burger, but the egg was completely cooked through with no runny yolk at all, so it didn't really add much. Overall, I found the burgers to be underseasoned. They looked great, but the flavor was a little flat and could have used more seasoning. The waffle fries were crispy and probably my favorite part of the meal. I also ordered a side of cheese sauce to dip them in, but it was so thick and gelatinous that I couldn't even get a fry into it, which was disappointing. We also ordered the corned beef egg rolls, which were very greasy. The outside was crispy, but the wrapper was thick and a bit doughy inside. The house-made ranch, however, was excellent and paired well with the fries. For three burgers, one appetizer, three pops, and about a $100 bill, I expected the food to wow me a little more. It wasn't bad by any means, I just wasn't as impressed as I expected based on all the rave reviews. If the food had a little more seasoning and the egg rolls, cheese sauce, and overall execution were improved, I'd enjoy it much more. I'd still give it another try, especially for the atmosphere, location, and outstanding service.

We have only had takeout but look forward to dining in soon…read more We started with the chips and salsa- it was obvious the chips were freshly fried and not bagged and the salsa was great. Unfortunately, I didn't care for the grilled chicken pita and explained my concerns to Laura. She was very understanding and kindly had it removed from the bill, which I greatly appreciated. Although I would rethink ordering the pita again, the chili, chips, and helpful service made the experience better.

We came here for lunch with our family while visiting from out of town, excited to try this…read morelocation after having a great experience at Woodchips before. We were dining with our whole family and looking forward to enjoying the meal together. During our visit, my husband--who serves in the military--asked about a military discount. While the restaurant does offer one, it was only applied to the two items he personally ordered, rather than to the family meal as a whole. This felt disappointing and, honestly, a bit disrespectful in its execution. While we understand that businesses can set their own policies, the way this was handled left a bad impression and took away from what was otherwise meant to be a positive family outing. The food itself was decent, but the experience surrounding the discount overshadowed our visit. Given our prior positive experience with the Woodchips, this was not what we expected. We hope management considers how these situations are handled in the future, especially when recognizing military service.

The waitress was nice and kept the drinks cold and coming on the regular. The bar atmosphere could use an update. I'll be back to try another round though.

Food was pretty good, but would suggest real turkey versus thicker cut lunch meat that did not really taste like turkey in the turkey ruben and bread was nice, but needed to taste more rye. The Slim Jim could be better with shaved ham crisped just a little on a grill before putting in the sandwich versus a too thick piece of ham. The coconut shrimp with hashbrowns were a nice big portion, but the coconut shrimp should be served with a jelly grape or plum type sauce versus the red cocktail sauce - hashbrowns were cooked perfect. Overall we really like the restaurant but would try different things. The small side salad could be a little less pricey wise as well since nothing comes with the sandwich.

However, most of the patio tables sit in full sun, so it could really use a few more umbrellas or some additional shade to make it more comfortable. I ordered the chicken bacon pita with fries, and while everything was perfectly edible, nothing really stood out. The pita was fine but pretty forgettable, and the fries were just average. One thing I did like was the beer selection, they had a nice variety to choose from. I did think it was a little odd that I could only order Soft Parade in a 12 oz pour, though. Nothing was bad, but nothing really impressed me either. It was an average meal, and while I don't regret stopping in, I probably wouldn't go out of my way to come back.
