Seriously, A+ guys. The chopped brisket and Brussels sprouts were both very good. The chicken had great flavor but was a bit drier than I prefer, still very good though. I wasn't a fan of the corn bread or Mac and cheese but that's my test. The ribs though .... I don't know if they were just having a bad night for ribs or if what I got was typical for their ribs but I'm not sure how they let these out of the kitchen. They were dry to the point of being desiccated. They were tough, chewy and lacked any flavor that one would typically associate with good ribs. Seriously, if you decide to order their ribs, ask them to try before you buy. ** Edit ** I just read a few reviews and noticed others complaining about the ribs. I dropped my rating for 4 to 3 stars. If you can't get the ribs right, take them off the menu. read more

Stopped buying just at opening on Sunday. Seriously fun and interesting ambiance. Lovely mocktails and extensive bbq menu with some interesting twists. My pork sandwich was loaded with nice lean but tasty meat. There was a selection of bbq sauce. Extremely attentive service until other customers arrived. The sauces are local creations. The mustard sauce was actually loaded with mustard seeds. The plain sauce was more like spaghetti sauce than ketchup and not very interesting at all. I regret not trying the hot sauce: it could have been a lot more interesting than the otherwise unremarkable selection. It would have been better without so much bread crumbs. The burnt ends was so so not real burnt ends. Cornbread was cold and too sweet. It was more like jiffy . Coleslaw bland and dry. Needs to be more creamier less watery. The fried pickles were good. Tasted like homemade pickle wrapped in egg roll wrapping. I would put them with Dickey or Famous Dave. Heard great things about this place. All those people must of drank before they ordered. By far one of the worst places I've been. So bad I'm actually leaving a review. My ribs were so dry and burnt it was like chewing on a rock, what little meat was on the bone was burnt beyond anything resembling food. They forgot our sides. The quesadilla wasn't much better. Note: This rating and review is likely relevant for only DoorDash orders. Huge fan of Woodchips after my first visit several years ago. I remember the service, atmosphere, and food all being superb. And as a bonus, I've heard (with much consistency) that the owner is Good People. So why the 3/5? I saw this place show up on DoorDash for the first time tonight (6-27) and thought I'd go for round two. But the food tasted really really "off" and we only ended up eating the mac and cheese, Porky's Revenge sandwich, and the sausage (super tasty!). Our other items of green beans (EXTREMELY salty and a chemical-y smoke flavor), pit beans, and chopped brisket were left uneaten. They all seemed to all have weird and varying levels of different kinds of smoke flavors that just didn't complement the food. I gotta believe maybe the quality was affected due to it being a DoorDash order so I'm going to revisit for a third time in person and I'll update this review after that visit, I'd still recommend this gem if you're dining at the restaurant! read more

We used to enjoy going to this restaurant. We would even get food to go and take the kids to the park. We recently drove a hour to take the kids to get lunch. They were excited. We order nachos as an appetizer (the waitress ask if we wanted chicken, we say yes assuming it's an option between pork or chicken on them). The nachos were not good at all. So we order our drinks and are told the root beer is on tap so it's no free refills. Ok sure. We order kids burgers have to pay to add cheese. (Not a big deal) Order pulled pork and Mac n cheese and fries && the pulled pork, bacon, and brisket on Texas toast. The waitress adds "you want fries" i say yes assuming there's more options. She brings out the food and i asked for a side of mayo. After all of this we get the bill and it's about 90 bucks. We were charged for "adding chicken to the nachos" , charged for the Mac and cheese, charged for the fries w/ the sandwich. These seem like things that other restaurants simply include w/ the meal. We left a pretty nice tip as we were saying we're never gonna return here. read more

I am very disappointed to write this review because I love Woodchips, and I think Patrick does an amazing amount of good for our community, but I am very let down by my experience today. We had a small group of 7 people that were celebrating St. Pats early, and we all took the day off work and started our day at Woodchips at noon with Ashley. She was clearly unhappy to serve our group and visibly rolled her eyes and sighed several times while serving us, but we didn't let that get us down and still thanked her heartily for her service. We then went to another establishment for a drink before returning to Woodchips for their fabulous margaritas. We were then told by Ashley that she would not serve us because "they knew we were bar-hopping." We thought she was joking with us, but she was not. They would not serve us at their establishment, which is strange because we went to three other restaurants downtown following this interaction that had no problem serving our group. I want to note that this occurred at 3 pm. on a Friday afternoon. We were not told we were loud or aggressive or belligerent; just that it was known that we were "bar hopping." I would also like to note that this incident occurred in the social district of Lapeer, where we have enjoyed celebrating St Patrick's day every year. This is the first and only time our group has been denied service. This is very disheartening to me and the rest of our group and doesn't seem in line with the owners vision for the restaurant. read more

This place is an absolute hidden gem. I'm from Texas and I like BBQ! I went to Woodchippers because of the high ratings and I see why now, it did not disappoint. I had the plate with brisket, pulled pork, pulled chicken, sausage, and I added ribs. Brisket and pork ribs are my go to judge for BBQ. The brisket was moist and tender with a good full flavor. The pork ribs had a nice seal on the outside and were full of flavor without being dry. They were not fall off the bone tender but the meat was well done without being dry. The Mac and cheese was delicious as was the cornbread. I washed it all down with an Octoberfest brew that was a nice seasonal treat. It's all hype. They make a big deal about their menu when you get seated but the food isn't anything special. I've had better Wings at Buffalo Wild Wings (and better sauce selection too). The hamburger was sub par (go across the street to Detroit Burger Bar for a much better burger). Watch your wallet if you order any of the fancy ice-teas; and no free refills on them either! The BBQ sauces, for a BBQ place, frankly we're gross. I would have preferred 'Open Pit'. Service was mediocre - no shock n' awe there either. Will I be back?? Unlikely, unless they're the last place around after a nuclear apocalypse - and even then id probably seek out a Culver's in the rubble. Two enthusiastic thumbs down!! read more

If there were 6 stars, I'd choose that. I have been waiting 2 years to try this restaurant and finally did. Being it was our first time in, the waitress explained to us that absolutely everything in this restaurant all the way down to the sauces, is homemade. Nothing is frozen nothing is prepackaged. We had the jambalaya, smoked meats burrito, kids had boneless wings and fries. The fries were surprisingly perfect, since Everywhere I Go that has their own hand cut fries, they usually end up turning out saggy and dark brown. But woodchips has apparently found the secret technique because they were just like frozen fries other than being freshly made. Absolutely recommend, and we'll certainly be back. read more

I've only had takeout and have yet to dine in, but their food is fantastic! Chicken quarters were super tender but with crispy skin and perfectly seasoned. Didn't even need sauce! The green beans are garlicky and taste wok-fried (not the traditional mush that's typical of bbq joints). The pit beans are tangy and smoky and not sickly sweet. I don't usually prefer sweet barbecue sauce but theirs has a ginger flavor that makes it so unique and delicious. My only complaints would be that the cornbread is very small (it's a 2-bite mini muffin that comes with the bbq platters) and the chopped brisket was a bit too salty. Just picked up my second large catering order this year ($600+). Both times I ordered they were on time, the orders 100% correct, food was hot, the staff was friendly & helpful. Most important was that everything was delicious (pulled pork, brisket, sausage, chicken, mac & cheese, cornbread, slaw). They gave us several jars of sauce and utensils. Everyone who ate the BBQ commented how good it was. Not sure I could ask for more, everything was great. We will be back. read more

Omg BECKY!!!! Delicous BBQ alert. Derrick and I were just driving around and we stumbled upon this little gem. We ordered the rueben eggrolls they were fantastic. The meat inside was smoked and with tender veggies. I could just eat that for the rest of my life. Lol. Then we shared the 3 meat trio. Chicken, jalapeño sausage and pulled pork. It came with cornbread and two side's, we picked coleslaw and greenbeans. The meat was so smoky and tender. I was so full, I couldn't put my fork down!!! I highly recommend this place they were so awesome. Everything they make is in house and fresh. The coleslaw was top notch and the green beans had a great smoky flavor as well. Bring an empty stomach you will not be disappointed. I am sure glad I am eating meat again. They also have a location in Oxford. Outside seating in this cute little town. read more

Three of us had lunch here yesterday. It was a beautiful 70 degree afternoon so we sat outside on the patio. I had the excellent reuben eggrolls and a burger. The burger was very greasy, like dripping grease. I would have preferred they served it less greasy. The one thing that really shocked me was one of my party ordered the jumbalaya. It was not a very large serving and was $17! I thought that was ridiculous. It also had to be remade as there were small pieces of aluminum foil in the dish for some reason. Our waitress was very nice and did an excellent job. I would eat here again and try something else. read more

Went here about a month ago and service, food, and prices were five stars. Went there today and had a bad experience overall, got the mac n cheese and pulled pork which dropped drastically in portion barely in price, was the least cheesiest mac n cheese i have ever had, some of it was just dry noodles, the beer wasn't chilled, our split bill didn't include any of the daily discounts until we notified our waitress, one item wasn't ever discounted. It took 45 minutes to get our food and it was busier but we never were told why and the wait time was never mentioned, we both have worked in food service there's no reason why it should've taken so long. I never got my water I requested so I drank my boyfriends water 30 minutes into sitting and never got my (boyfriends) water refilled in the 90 minutes of being there even though it wasn't busy, also requested a extra sauce and never got it but still paid for it. Yummy bbq spot with good vibes! Our serve Brooke gave us great service, and our food was yummy! We were able to walk in on a Friday night and get sat right away which is nice! The restaurant is located in the middle of downtown. Started with the fried pickles, which are wrapped in wonton wraps which weren't my favorite but not bad. The Brussels were a good appetizer I liked the balsamic they were soaked in! The jalapeño cheddar sausage had great flavor, the Mac n cheese was nice and creamy, and the sweet potato fries were delicious with an amazing sweet honey cinnamon sauce to dip in. read more
