I don't understand any review under a 5. This old fashioned A&W is the best. We drive from Clarkston at least once a month because we just have to have it! The food has never, ever changed. I have never rated anything so low but i am sorry for writing this 2 star review. I got vanilla sundae with chocolate fudge topping, fries and 2 pc tenders, the food was great, but some problems. I make a special trip to have an A&W since it is not near me. I go there for the onion rings. Love them! This time I did a coney dogs & finally realized they have sugar free root beer. Duh. They put plenty of onions on my coney without having to ask for more. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I use the in door enclosure which over looks the creek. I would rather eat there then in my car. Shout out to one of the nicest A&W location we have visited. H stopped in for his Birthday Float and what a delightful treat to look forward too. LeRoy: I had the wonderful opportunity to sit on the sunshine along the babbling brook in Ortonville MI, eating coney dogs for lunch. The coney dogs were done very well. I asked for them burnt and they were. The chili was excellent! Then I had some french fries with it that were very good. I added a nice large diet A&W root beer. And to top it all off, homemade chocolate chip cookies from Aunt Sue and a loaf or Artisan bread from Katie-I'll tell ya how that is next week. Amen!!! Katie: I had to try a coney dog, because after all, I am a coney connoisseur. The bun was soft and the chili was tasty. It does not come with mustard on it, which in my opinion is a must, so I added it. I topped it off with a black cow which is always part of my order when I come to A&W! I had the worst experience today, and I still feel sick to my stomach about it. I have been going to the Ortonville A & W since I was a kid, and now I never want to go back. I asked for a warm set of onion rings, as mine were cold. The "manager", as she called herself argued with me over the intercom. Said if I had eaten my onion rings 15 mins ago when u ordered them, they would still be warm. I had them for about 5 mins before eating them, as I was passing out food to the rest of my car. Another "manager" came out to get my tray, she was also rude. She said don't you want these onion rings-the "new" ones-I said no, I now feel to my stomach after that altercation, as well as being embarrassed for how she was talking to me. I'm sad that I won't be returning. I've always loved A & W. read more

Typically very busy with their hours so I usually stop in for a to-go meal. Staff is always kind and to the point, they get you in and out swiftly while tending to every car/customer with kindness. Even with a high volume, and i'm sure stressful atmosphere for the workers, they have never once messed up my order or given me cold or subpar food or service. read more

As a kid i would come here with my parents, grandparents and friends. I began bringing my kids here so they could experience the ambiance and great food and before today i loved the place but after today i was appalled. I ordered a papa burger, some fries, a shake and a few other things for my family and the food was TERRIBLE. For starters, there was only 2 other cars, one waiting on their order (or ordering) and the other car already had their food. It took 20 minutes for my food to be served. Once the I got the order the food was cold and mushy. My kids couldn't even eat the food and usually they'll eat whatever i put in front of them. The server we had was very rude. You could tell she simply did not want to be serving us and had an attitude when she brought out our order. I never throw food away that I pay for but my kids and I simply could not eat it. This is the only A&W I will eat at, been eating here for over 30 yrs! The food is always good and fresh and never been wrong! I do believe this is due to great management at this facility the only way it could be better is if Michigan was warm year round. Good spot to come for a quick bite to eat--this is your traditional drive in, park, and eat type of spot. The workers don't wear roller skates which takes away from the novelty of your traditional drive in spot, but they can still take your order from call boxes. The food was okay. I ordered the foot long hotdog with chili and a root beer that did not come with ice for some reason. The hot dog tasted like Vienna sausage, which is not my favorite type of meat, but it satisfied my appetite, nonetheless. Just your typical OK fast food type of meal. read more

We love this A&W. My wife was a carhop there when she was in the 9th grade, and she tells me it hasn't changed much since then. It is a very popular place so if you go there during peak periods you might not find an open slot for your car. But the food is fast and always good - or at least as good as fast food gets. Plus cheese curds, plus real A&W root beer. The service is terrific. The corner seems to be a magnet for motorcycles and pickup trucks with macho mufflers, so if you were planning on enjoying an intimate chat about current art trends over your bacon burger and onion rings, you'll be disappointed. This has been a family favorit for more then 40yrs. Now its my family's turn. This is the best fast food around and any local will tell you how they can't wait for this place to open in spring. It has your old talk box and you sit in your car with that tray we all remember from "Happy Day's" lol. I love to bring my 3yr old here. The footlong coney's with everything are my favorit (we get ours with cheese sauce), the Black Cow is a must (Homemade rootbeer blended w/ice cream) & deep fried mushrooms are our norm. The chicken strips are huge and we love the onion rings, chili cheese fries, Pappa Burger. And they have a wonderful grilled chicken on a wheat bun. read more

A&W has good food. The drive up service is very convenient. You can drive up and place an order through a call box and have an employee bring your food out to your car. You can take your food home or you can have your food brought out on a tray and eat in your car. The service is good as well, could be a little faster. All in all I do enjoy eating there. read more

Best drive-in I've ever been to! Sonic holds nothing to this place. The rootbeer doesn't come with ice because its home made and a draught "beer" ...would you put ice in your draught miller lite?? Its smooth and very refreshing! I always know that summer is right around the corner when A&W is open. Makes me almost sad when I visit home in the winter time and I can't grab a quick bite. My faves are getting the chili dog with cheese, the mozza burger or the crispy chicken sandwich!!! read more
