For MI/midwest BBQ, Bad Brad's is a great option. All of the meats are good, the sandwich options are good, and the Bad Brad's labeled beer is actually fantastic (Bell's? Short's? Rochester Mills? homegrown?). Had the flatbread/pizzas in the past, not so good. The full slab of ribs is true what they say. Fall off the bone incredible. Highly recommend and that plus the two sides was enough for me to split with my husband. The potato salad surprisingly was my second favorite. The mustard and dill hit between the bites of meat and is truly a great side for bbq. Overall a great restaurant. I think she got the Mac and Cheese side with corn bread and I went with the coleslaw and baked beans. The brisket was good, but the beans weren't so great. Hard to explain but I kind of picked at them and usually I'm good at eating barbequed beans. Not really a fan. the coleslaw was tasty, and overall a decent meal. Mind you, I usually go to the 23 mile and Van Dyke location so this was my first stop at this particular location. My friends never been so it was new for her and not myself. I don't know if they've changed since I've last been, but the prices really jumped up. I don't mind paying a little extra, but I ended up spending $30 after tip, and that doesn't include any booze. I wish they didn't charge an upgrade for certain sides and it kind of bothered me. Also, the last time I was at a Bad Brad's, I swear they had the paper towels at the table since barbeque can be messy at times. Our server was nice enough to bring extra napkins since I literally go through a ton of them when eating. Overall a fabulous experience just sad about the beans being meh and how much our meal was. I do like their campfire nachos, yummy. We were seated by the bar area. We started off with the chicken campfire nachos. Ordered a Turkey platter with jalapeño corn bread, potato salad and coleslaw, a half chicken, tortilla soup and Mac and cheese. The campfire nachos were quite good, lots of cilantro and good heat from the chipotle cream sauce and the nachos were fairly crispy too. The jalapeño corn bread has a nicely caramelized crust, slightly, it's good, the inside is moist and maybe could have been cooked a few minutes longer. Nice chunks of corn inside too. The Turkey was not dry, the rub was good on the Turkey and was all lean too. The spicy BBQ sauce is my jam. The coleslaw and salad were both ok, nothing special. Some of the best BBQ You'll find in Michigan. A bit pricey, but worth it. My mom and I went here for the 4th and were delighted with our experience. We started with the porkbelly ends which were excellent. Very fatty and delicious. For the mains, we both got half-racks of ribs and I got the quarter chicken, mac and cheese and greens. My mom got the brisket and the same sides, we shared meats and it was delicious. The ribs were tinder and smokey, the chicken was juicy on the inside and had a nice rotisserie style crunchy exterior. The mac was very solid, but the greens were on the vinegary side so if you are adverse to that, keep that in mind. The ribs are sold at market price, which sadly, like everything these days is high due to inflation. I do feel the meal was fulfilling, though and cheaper than buying your own meats and cooking. Service was very attentive and responsive to our needs. The restaurant has a nice Texas/Southwest feel to it and the food matches that ambiance. The Lonestar state would be proud. read more

We have eaten at Bad Brad's in Shelby but this location is more convenient for meeting our friends. I called several days in advance to confirm dine in with choice of indoor and outdoor seating; must wear masks until seated. We also had studied the photos and menus in advance, so we had a pretty good idea of what we would order. After we were seated and our friends showed up, we could dispense with the masks. I ordered the 2-Meat plate with Pulled Pork and Smoked Turkey and picked BBQ Chili and Cornbread as sides. I also added 1/4 Slab of Ribs. My wife ordered the 3-Sides plate and picked BBQ Beans/Potato Salad 50-50, Tortilla Soup, and Mac n' Cheese ($1.50 additional). We both ordered unsweetened Ice Tea. Our friends ordered a 2-Meat plate with Pulled Pork and Sliced Beef Brisket along with a full Slab of Ribs. Everything was very good as was the service (thanks, Nina, and the rest of the crew). This place is massive! The interior decor was like a fun, family-friendly, shiny version of the Lockhart, TX BBQ joints with murals on the way about American BBQ. I got brisket, smoked chicken, dry rubbed ribs, with garlic broccoli and Mac n cheese on the side. The ribs were my favorite, very flavorful and tender and juicy.
