I've done 5 moves in the last 10 years (sigh) and this was definitely the best. Really great move with JC and Culmer Moving. They did a great job, and JC called several times to check in. They packed and moved our 4-bedroom house. I'll point out that my fiancee didn't show the 3rd floor attic room, but they packed it for us anyway. That took a bunch more time to both pack and move - JC only charged us for going slightly long on moving day, even though it also took 2 hours more to pack than we originally negotiated. In short, we paid ~$200 extra, which was still substantially less than any other estimates we received. Ema and I both agree that in the end we asked them to do a lot more than the original estimate, and JC was more than fair. Packing was done well. They were up-front about having us decide on a "safe zone" that wouldn't be packed. They even set aside a few things (e.g., a very cheap, bendy mirror from Target) and suggested I take it in my car -- it would be a bigger hassle to wrap and put in the truck. His guys were super friendly, and up-beat and seemed to enjoy helping us out. Since not everything was going to the same place in the new house, they were very careful to ask when bringing things in. They also helped me get a window AC unit in place, which helped us all out on a hot day. We haven't finished unpacking, but so far only one broken glass (during packing) and some minor issues. read more

Culmer Moving did a wonderful job moving all my belongings from my three bedroom house to a storage unit. Emmanuel and his two colleagues (I cannot remember their names, unfortunately) could not have been nicer, and they worked efficiently and carefully to haul all of it. Some pieces were very heavy, and they handled it with great skill and ease. I appreciated their kindness to my fascinated two year old grandson, who was enthralled with the truck, the ramp, and the movers! DO NOT HIRE! I repeat DO NOT HIRE! They may sound good on paper with price, but remember you get what you pay for and we sure learned our lesson the hard way. I scheduled Culmer moving to move my 70 year old mom from Pittsburgh to Maryland. We were given a 8am-10am window. Long story short after a days worth of excuses and promises it was 7PM and they STILL weren't there. I certainly wasn't going to make my poor mom move in the middle of the night. I mean 7PM!!! I called the driver and cancelled. I shortly there after got a call from the owner JC ago while was kind on the phone also fed me a bunch of nonsense to keep me quiet. He told me my $100 deposit was credited back to my credit card (11 days later and I still don't have it) and he sent me $200 immediately via google pay for the inconvenience. Well in hind site it was really $100 as I never received my deposit. He went on and on to say how the driver Mike was new and wouldn't be working for him anymore, I don't by it!! Listen....stick with licensed, reputable movers. You will pay more but they are reliable and will save you a million headaches!! My brother flew in from Tennessee to assist with the move that never happened! We were back to starting from scratch. read more

I hired 2 movers to help me unload a moving truck into my apartment. JC was responsive and flexible. The movers were punctual. They handled my belongings carefully. Made sure to place everything in the correct rooms. When one piece of furniture didn't fit up the stairs, JC was willing to disassemble and reassemble the whole piece in order to get it to the desired room. First off, the team they sent out was very nice. However, it took 9 hours to move a 1 bedroom apartment. When I started putting things away I noticed a chunk taken out of my marble bar and a scratch from one end to the other. I contacted the company and left messages for the manager to contact me about the issue. The movers had forgotten a top to one of our tables and when they stopped to return it I showed it to them also. Fast forward 2 weeks and I still have not gotten a call back and now am just getting sent to voice mail. I hardly ever leave negative reviews but this was an expensive piece of furniture and the company"s silence is speaking volumes about their integrity. read more

I would give them less than one star if I could! Move was scheduled for today at 8-9am. Get a text at 9:30 they had technical issues with vehicle and said they were working on getting another crew and truck to me. 2 hours later they tell me they located a truck and it's being delivered to the crew. 1:30pm I message them asking for status and silence, I call all 3 numbers voicemail won't take any messages. Finally 2:15 I get a message that it's canceled and they can do Monday. I have other people moving into this house on Monday. I ask them to call and they won't! Absolutely the worst experience I have ever had and I have moved several times!!!! read more

The workers were awesome and worked very very hard. The owner JC is absolutely terrible. Extremely unprofessional, dishonest and rude. I feel bad for his employees. We were quoted $150 an hour and were told that it typically takes 3ish hours to move a two bedroom. Instead it took over 12 hours. The truck they sent was 16ft and was too small so we had to take two trips and fill BOTH of my pickup trucks. We were told we would have a 26ft truck for our move. My husband helped them move and load the entire thing because it was taking so long. After calling the owner to see what he could do to help he blamed me for lying about what needed to be moved. I went over everything in depth with him to be sure we didn't miss anything. We also were promised that the workers would put everything back together but, after moving 12 hours and it being after 11pm we just let them leave so we could put our baby to sleep. After looking everything over when they left our walls, stairs and furniture are completely torn up. Scratches and chunks taken out of everything. JC is an incompetent liar and we would never recommend this moving company to anyone. read more

They usually do 5 hour minimum on weekends he let me get 4 hour and the men did the job in only 3.5 hours. No scratches on anything no issues and everyone was very personable. I've called them at least 20 times at all their various numbers and no one answers and there's no place to leave a message. And yes...the reviews are awful however since they called to confirm and were good about answering my questions I thought they turned around but NOPE! Now we have to make other plans. Terrible customer service. Movers Came late and moved very slow. It took 8 hours to move one bedroom. I was given a discount which was taken away at the end. I was billed for phone time. My credit card was charged without asking me if I wanted to pay in cash or credit. Movers argued with us when we asked them to move faster when it was approaching the 8th hour. I was charged more 1250 for one bedroom. There was insufficient moving equipment to prevent injury to workers and to protect my walls which were damaged. Owner refused to come fix my wall and offered to give me 3 dollars to fix it myself. My drawer was damaged. My mirror was missing. I would be very careful when booking with them because they use a third party to make reservations and have no idea about the policies of the company. I was given wrong information about pricing. The owner was very unprofessional and the worst moving experience of my life. read more

Is there a negative score? We booked them from 8am-10am, and they never came. They couldn't be reached, and I kept on calling both of their numbers. We ended up getting a UHaul and a couple of our friends to help us move! No apology, no nothing. DO NOT BOOK THEM. It caused us such major inconvenience! I was so upset! Zero stars. Complete knuckleheads. I don't know if they were any better than that because THEY NEVER SHOWED UP! No phone call explaining what happened, no text message, no show. I got nervous the night before the scheduled move, when my wife got a text message at 10:30PM asking if we had a cash app or Venmo. ??... What? at 10:30 at night? The night before an early move?.... Ooookaaaayyy... I had to try and recruit friends at 2PM on Saturday afternoon (that was fun) to move my mother-in-law's apartment ourselves, as her lease was up the next day. They really left us up the creek. Terrible people to do that to anyone! Moving is stressful enough. It's obviously a big job, and as such carries a large responsibility. Don't hire this company! They seemed professional enough at first, but the follow through is what really matters. Read ALL of the reviews and you begin to see a pattern. The five-star reviews were paid for, in my opinion. Worst moving experience ever. I am not here to bash this company, but I was extremely disappointed and upset by my moving experience. Almost everything that could have gone wrong did. I feel the likely cause was that JC overbooked himself for a very popular moving day, and did not have the manpower or resources to complete all the work he had booked. JC did a walk-through weeks before the move date. I told him I wanted a quote for packing + moving services, which he estimated to be max 12 hours, but encouraged me to pack as much as possible ahead of time to save myself time and money. As a result, I ended up packing nearly my entire apartment. I purposely left my kitchen dishware and small appliances, as well as 1 closet and office supplies, which I felt the movers could pack more quickly. I communicated this to their call center (which I couldn't always get ahold of) several days in advance of the move. The day of, the crew came with many boxes, tape, etc. prepared to have to pack the entire apartment. It seemed like they hadn't gotten the message that packing would be just a tiny fraction of the entire job. From the start, I told them I thought most of the time/work was going to be loading and unloading. However, they took 3 hours to pack just my dishware and remaining few items, moving very slowly. Meanwhile, I helped pack alongside them and was working 2x as fast. (Also, I was 5 months pregnant - which I don't mention for sympathy points, but to highlight how terribly slow and inept this crew was.) The crew was on their phones throughout - talking, texting, etc., the head guy took many extended breaks and disappeared for up to a half hour at a time without telling me. One of the crew members (a woman) struggled to keep up and was unable to load much into the truck. She took inordinately too long to pack up some office supplies, which ended up just being dumped into boxes and strewn all over the place. Another crew member was being tutored throughout by another one on how to properly carry and load large items, because he was new. One of the crew members dropped several boxes of breakables coming down from the attic, several that were irreparable and irreplaceable. I saw it happen. The crew came unprepared and at one point asked me for water - which sadly I was unable to provide because the crew themselves had just packed up all of my dishware. At some point, JC showed up (I had been told he would be there the WHOLE day), but didn't greet me. Instead, I saw him in a verbal argument with one of the crew members, then sent the crew member home and replaced him with another guy. Meanwhile, he and another crew member spent time trying to fix his personal vehicle which had broken down on my street - again, without telling me. At some point, JC left, and I didn't see him for the rest of the day. Once the truck was completely loaded, the head crew member informed me that there was not enough room in the truck (despite JC having done a walk-through in advance), and they would have to send another crew with a second truck at some point later that day. Unfortunately, I could not stay there to supervise the crew or even let them in, because I had to travel to my new apartment to accompany my crew with the first truck holding most of my stuff. So I had no choice but to leave behind the stuff in my apartment and hide a key so the next crew could pack the rest of my stuff. It had now been about 7 or 8 hours just loading. There was a definite increase in the crew's pace once they realized that they were running out of time in the day to get everything done. It was frustratingly clear that they had come prepared to pack my apt, and that they took as long as they originally would have to pack just a fraction of my belongings so that they would end up making the same amount of money. While unloading at the new apartment, a number of things went wrong, including breaking several large items - a digital piano, a mattress, and dining room table. The crew put many things in the wrong locations, which was a big deal because some things were going into a storage area that we wouldn't be able to access. They left large items in a basement hallway, unbeknownst to me. When the 2nd truck arrived, I greeted the driver, & he walked past me rudely, apparently irate. They did not finish until after 8 pm - a 12-hour day, which should have taken 8-10 hours. Fortunately, my landlord allowed me to return to the old apartment even though I was supposed to be out, so that I could clean. I arrived to find an entire pickup truck load of belongings left at my apartment that I was not told about! Bed frame, vacuum, an entire closet, trash cans, etc. I could not carry these things because I was pregnant, nor did I have the car space. A bookcase had been ripped out of the wall, damaging the wall & fastener. At best, this was an unfortunate disaster. At worst, this company operated deceitfully & unprofessionally. Culmer Moving saved us at the last minute after another mover cancelled unexpectedly 12 hours before our scheduled move. Culver's moving team of Leonard and Dave, as well as JC on the phone, were professional, courteous and careful with my belongings. They didn't waste time, and packed the truck efficiently and safely. I had some difficult items including large glass tabletops that they handled well. My move was from a 10x15 storage unit into a narrow three-story townhouse with two flights of stairs. Culmer was affordable and I would recommend them! They really helped me and were nice about it, too! read more

I could not recommend these movers. While the owner, JC was very friendly and helpful in setting everything up on the phone, and they were available the day I needed on fairly short notice, so many things went wrong and my move was extremely stressful. The movers arrived late. They used my tools to disassemble furniture, dumped a socket set everywhere, and didn't organize them. Packing went way over the expected time, past my management companies hours, at which point they were going to charge me extra. Movers started rushing, being careless. They left many items behind, completely didn't pack a closet. I ended up spending several hours moving stuff they missed. Movers got into a verbal altercation at the moving truck with each other. I had to walk away because I thought they may start physically fighting. They crammed stuff completely wall-to-wall in the elevator, knocked off the protective mats. At the destination, the movers tried moving the truck while the ramp was attached, and ended up hitting a neighbor's truck with the ramp. Amazingly, it didn't appear to cause damage. Again, I had to walk away because I just couldn't watch them. At the destination, the movers requested that I unload a wardrobe box so they could re-use it (seriously?) I complied, and when I came back downstairs, I noticed the strong smell of gas in the kitchen. One of the movers had bumped the knob on the range, left it pouring gas into the kitchen, and NOBODY NOTICED!? THE MOVERS NEARLY BLEW UP MY NEW HOUSE! Liquor bottles were packed upside-down, leaking everywhere. Water left in a kettle when it was packed - everything was wet. Original canvas paintings were placed in a wardrobe box, no protection from each other, and damaged due to the corners of each other. Basically all but one of my lamps were broken. Broken glasses, bowl, missing parts to my keyboard stand & coffee table, scratched my desk, damaged the apartment walls. A wall clock went completely missing. None of the boxes were labeled, so at the destination, everything ended up on the first floor except for wardrobe boxes - many of which didn't actually contain clothes. I was moving boxes up and down constantly during unpacking. On the plus side, I was reimbursed for the lost/damaged items. It took a month and a half to get the check, but I did. I've hired movers several times now, and unfortunately, this was the worst experience I've had. Sadly, I cannot recommend them. read more

Company would not quote my job. They asked me how many bedrooms my house was and how many bedrooms my new one has. I only asked for two items in a house to be quoted/moved - not a whole house! I'm not sure why my house size mattered?! Also, they refused to quote me without my house numbers. Called company and was told there was a booking issue and that the estimator would be at my house within 30 - 40 minutes. Culmer Moving sub-contracted the move to a contractor and the point person (Luke) and two other guys coordinated the move. From the start, Mr A (one of Luke's crew) said aloud that he was carrying miscellaneous shit. When I talked to Luke about it, he said that the word was used to indicate stuff and was not to be interpreted literally. The nuance was lost third parties hearing the phrase at the moment. The main issue with Luke and his crew was that he (Luke) was the only person who was consistently courteous, helpful and accommodating. The rest were cavalier at best, and taking time off the job to smoke and in general, not doing anything. We made sure they were hydrated and offered them some fruit. Luke was the only person who was taking apart and putting back a table, couch and a bed, whereas others were taking the time to sit on the truck and were taking smoking breaks on the job where they were getting paid $150/h to execute. On top of this, when they arrived at the destination, one of Luke's crew told me that he was expecting a ranch home (not with stairs). From the time I first contacted Culmer Moving, I let it be known that the destination is a single family 2-story home. It is unfortunate that the layout of the home could not be changed to accommodate the preferences of the movers. When I approached Mr A (who was sitting doing nothing) asking for help trying to put an Ikea bed, he flatly refused saying that if they did not get it, they will not put it together. I did not understand why I was continuously charged $150/h for all the time the crew spent chatting and smoking -if someone was not doing the work, the customer should not be charged. Luke was the only one who was diligently working all the time. When they first brought a leather couch down from the ramp, they could not control it, and the couch was torn. When I mentioned this to Mr A (Luke's crew), he told me that he heard me the first time, the second time and the third time (!). That couch cost us $1200, and is pure leather, and of course, as the owner, we will have a certain interest in having our things moved in one piece. We recognize that accidents do happen, but this behavior and callous attitude is unbecoming and unprofessional. There is a need to institute quality control and training for all members involved in the moving process. Luke did reimburse us for the torn leather couch and a sizable dent they put in a newly painted wall ($50). I strongly encourage others to find a mover that is responsive, respectful, skilled, and effective - I have zero confidence that Culmer Moving will meet your needs. Luke is a diligent, and skilled professional, but deserves a more effective crew. read more

The guys from Culmer were so wonderful for our recent move. Scheduling the move was fast and easy with JC ahead of time. On moving day, the guys were timely and professional, taking care to wrap every piece of furniture and ensure that everything arrived in excellent shape. It was an incredibly hot day, but James, Emmanuel, and Rob never flagged despite the challenging stairs at both ends of the move. They were friendly and efficient and I happily promised them that I won't let anyone else move my furniture back out of the third floor of our place. The worst experience ever. I've moved many times; corporate cross country moves and personal local moves. I've never experienced anything this bad. Up until the day of the move, everything seemed fine. Towards the end of the move, the crew could be heard saying they needed to get to another job and started getting careless. Then the real reason I would never recommend them occurred. There was breakage and damage to my home from the move. Unfortunately, I always expect some. I contacted Culmer for their process for submitting a claim and followed their procedures. The initial response to the claimed items was to reject a number of the items and indicate that they had 30 days to respond to all the items. 30 days came and went. Despite many calls and emails, that was the last real information I ever received. The response to my calls was "the owner is the only person who can handle this." I was told they'd have him call many times. He never has. They did contact us a couple of days after the move to say they found a box that was ours and still in their possession. After several more days they left it at our door. It was not ours. We informed them immediately. 4 months have gone by and they don't even care enough for their customers to pick it up and get it to the rightful owner. This is the most unprofessional organization I've ever dealt with. read more

However, I was pleasantly surprised to find Culmer extremely courteous and willing to work within our short time frame. They came exactly on time and the move happened really quickly.
