I've had some bad moving experiences, so it was amazing to have a point of contact who proactively reached out to confirm everything. I received notification of when the movers were on the way and when they arrived. Not a far move, but they did it all in 2 hours. My quote had 3 guys, but a 4th showed up to help unload at the new place. Very friendly and thoughtful people. As an aside- I recommend using rentacrate. The guys definitely seemed to appreciate the nice durable boxes with handles and it made everything really easy and quick. Recently used Diversity Moving. Showed up on time, pretty flexible about what they will move. Piolite, professional. Things seemed to go well. A little annoyed we got one minor ding in a wall, but over all. Didn't seem to bad. Over the weeks, we went to setup more rooms, more furniture, etc. A LOT of my furniture has new scratches and dents that I didn't notice from a quick glance. None of it catastrophic, but extremely frustrating. Despite this, they were still polite and professional. Didn't charge too much. A little more care, and it's be 5/5, perfect. read more

They originally quoted us 4 hours after going through an extensive checklist of everything, and it ended up being a 12 hour move. So what was originally a quote of 2,300 ended up being nearly 5K. The company makes the movers pay out of their own pocket when things break, which is not okay, especially given that we're forced to pay insurance anyways, so the company should be responsible for damages, not the workers. We recently moved neighborhoods and entrusted Diversity Moving with packing up our kitchen and our big move to a new house. Dispatch was extremely easy to schedule and sign on with, accommodating a tight schedule we were working under. As I unpack the kitchen I'm very impressed by the efficient and protective job they did. The day of the move was made as stress free as possible with them. We have a lot of delicate antique items that were handled with a lot of love and care, and our new home has lots of woodwork on the walls/stairs that could be easily damaged and zero damage was done. One of the movers said he pretends everything he moves belongs to his mother which was very sweet to hear and very believable based on the care they gave. Nice guys, but experience was unprofessional. When I first moved, this company picked up and junked a sofa for me. I didn't have any issues. They were responsive, timely, and efficient. This time the experience was different. While all of the employees we interacted with were nice, the efficiency decreased significantly. I arranged a pick up and dumping of a sectional. Shortly after my appointment time passed, I received a text that pick up would be late and I would receive a call shortly. 3 hours later I received a text with a 45 minute wait. Only one of the workers arrived and had to wait for his help to move the furniture. Once the other guy arrived they removed the furniture. There was no acknowledgment of the significant delay in time nor an apology. Because of this experience I'm not likely to support this business again read more

Wouldn't look at pics I sent of the inside of the storage unit, so they could give a proper, detailed quote. Every other company I contacted was glad to do so. Insisted I spend (who knows how long) filling out all the details I had already emailed in triplicate on the website's online form. If they're that inflexible when it comes to just quoting, what happens when there's something atypical during your move? Update: owner herself called me shortly thereafter. Explained that I was talking to the answering service, didn't come in for my quote via the usual channel, and that it should only take 10 minutes to do the online form to get the quote. After apologizing, she is making changes to their website and intake process in response to my experience. They're definitely far less rigid than my first impression and are instead very detail-oriented and caring. Decided to get a quote after all this. read more

TL;DR: Make sure they quote you a minimum that actually matches the move you need done! Negotiate if you have to, and don't use them if the minimum sounds high and you suspect they may complete the job significantly under it. My problem with this company: they didn't provide the entire service that I paid for. They quoted me a 2 hour minimum, which I gladly paid (and did so in full, upfront). Our landlord asked us to move out early so the new tenant could move in sooner, so we ended up speeding up our move which caused us to not be 100% packed. The guys got everything that was already packed in the truck in about 40 minutes. This was AMAZING. We were very appreciative. However, based on me paying for a 2 hour minimum, and especially given that it's not an option to get money back if they complete early (which I completely understand), they should have stayed until the 2 hour minimum was met if I so desired. I wanted to continue packing what I could, then have them put those packed items into the truck. I never asked for them to do any packing, or anything else that was out of scope. I literally offered for them to sit on our porch so they weren't just standing around, and said I would tell them when I had another batch of things that could go in the truck. They proceeded to argue they had already closed out the move because my husband had told them we were done (he had not), and the main mover just stood around going back and forth with their "manager" on the phone. Finally, a full hour before our 2 hr minimum was up, they said they had to leave. They did this because this is how they operate: they quote everyone a significantly higher minimum than they need, and then they book jobs that overlap on top of each other. They rely on most customers never speaking up about wanting to use their full minimums, and so they increase their profit margins by double booking themselves, then give you attitude when you point that out to them. It's a genius business model for most unsuspecting consumers, who aren't really going to argue with you because they're just trying to get stuff done. When I called in to speak to Teare, they got an attitude with me and tried to gaslight me about what time the crew arrived and what time the guys should have stayed there until. They tried to say the guys only left 1 minute before the minimum was up: this was patently untrue and when I pointed that out to Teare, they switched tactics and got aggressive and just repeated: well, what didn't they do? what didn't they do? They tried to argue with me about not getting money back for the minimum, which was another gaslighting tactic as this is not what I actually had an issue with. Maybe this works on other people, but it didn't on me. I do want to say that the actual crew that did the move were some great, really kind guys! They wished the best for me for my next step, which in my opinion is going above and beyond to be kind. I really appreciated that. Some annoying things, but not particularly bad. Their booking process is so over-involved. I think it's good (and preferable) for movers to gather a good amount of info in order to give you as accurate a quote as possible and not have any surprises. But there was hidden step after hidden step - not hidden in a nefarious way but like: do this step. Okay great, now that you completed that, do this. Okay great, now do this. Okay now, do that. It was just excessive. When you're moving you need to get things done quickly. It was also not easy to call in and get to who you needed to speak to directly, and Teare sounded kind of annoyed when they had to give me a call back after I called in and apparently didn't get to the right person. Not the best customer service in that way, but I guess it was foreshadowing for their later pettiness. read more

I've used Diversity Moving Company Several as early as 2017 and several times since 2019. I can tell you the positives and negatives of working with Diversity. The positives are that the movers we have had in the past were hard working, respectful, and extremely careful with our belongings. Outside of one communication issue of when they took a lunch and didn't communicate it with us clearly and we wondered where they were, we had no problems at all with them. In fact Ronnie offer to deduct 30 minutes for that issue and I said we would prefer that go directly to the movers. ill say that despite this, they still moved everything well and within the quoted time. The communication with the office staff of Teare and the owner Ronnie could use some improvement. I recently attempted to book them for a move for my mother and I questioned some of the charges. They have changed over the years and added a lot of additonal processes in booking. While they offer transparency with many points of the process, I had a question about their charges for the truck and fuel. The first two times I used them in 2019, there was no fuel charge. When I used them last year, the fuel charge was $50. This year it was $139. I was seeking an explanation as to why it increased so much each time we booked. Teare and Ronnie stated that their rates went up for inflation. I felt that it was a bit of an overcharge based on what I know. They charge a rate for the truck and a separate rate for the fuel. Since they rent the trucks from UHAUL, I went on to UHAUL's website to compare the rates and both the rates Diversity charges for the Truck and Fuel was inflated well beyond what U-HAUL charges. I know that they rent trucks from UHAUL and they charge $39.95 for up to a 20 FT truck, $1.29 per mile and require you to fill the gas back to the same level after usage. If you opt for Safemove insurance its another $29.99. Diversity charges over $200 for the truck and charged $139 for the fuel. I was frustrated that they could not give a legit reason why my mother was being charged so much for a truck and fuel for a move that in distance is less than a mile and less than 5 minutes away. Ronnie was offended and took it personally that I would accuse him of overcharging or taking advantage with the rates. When I advised that I don't agree with They declined to accept our booking which I was totally ok with. Since 2019, I went from being charged $450 to $680 to $769. The moves got easier and were a shorter distance but the fees got more expensive. Towards the end he admitted that he raised his rates due to staff shortages and fuel costs, but the rates shown for labor only went up $10. So please use all info to make an educated decision. I would not tell anyone to not use the service, because the moving staff is awesome, but keep in mind that they may try to build the bottom line by increases various charges at will. Hopefully Ronnie and Teare are compensating them well with the extra fees, as they are the ones who deserve it! And if you have any questions about charges, don't allow Ronnie to insult or scold you for doing so. Know your rights as a consumer and don't just accept whatever they charge you! I'll take this time and knowledge to shop around. And despite what Ronnie says, its not about what we can afford, its about truth and facts. I'd honestly be willing to pay more, without the BS and claims of everything he is doing for you. -------------------------------- In response to Teare below You are exactly correct in that you have the right to charge whatever you do. As a potential customer, I have the right to question ALL charges, disclosed or not. If the explanation is not to my liking, I have the right to question it, especially when I can show billing inconsistencies. I have several better quotes from Movers on Yelp that are highly rated, professional, licensed, and insured without the extra upcharges and unnecessary fees. You declining was actually a wanted blessing as I didn't agree with the quote and advised my mother it wasn't in her best interest to proceed. Your response and attitude confirmed to my mom that we can do better. If you would like to continue debating we can share the unprofessional rants by Ronnie sent to my cellphone which I left out of my review. In regards to claims that I made negative comments about minority-owned/woman businesses. The devil is a liar. You will see that it was Ronnie owner of Diversity Moving, my exact comment was "I wish you well, and as a minority owner, I honestly wanted to see you succeed". Sound malicious to you? Since you don't know me, let me elaborate that I work with Minority-owned businesses both professionally and personally and I quote indicated that it should be a" badge of honor"and apologized if he was offended by being classified in that way. I agreed to the quote and was told that someone would contact me to schedule the pick up. Well to my surprise, I received a call the same day for a same day pick up! We just used Diversity Moving Company for our recent move from one side of Pittsburgh to the other, and the move went with no issues (except for the weather). Moving Quotes and Scheduling:  Want to talk about convenience, well message them via Yelp.  As I recall Ronnie (the owner) responded within the hour and was extremely helpful.  He shared with me their rate and that they were willing to help with the load as well as the unload.  As the date grew closer, Ronnie did reach out and confirm that all the logistics were in order and go over all the last minute details.  The Movers:  We had 2 men (low to mid 20s), both of which were professionals and really good to work with.  On arrival, they analyzed what we were looking to move and relived my biggest concerns of fitting everything on the truck.  They leveraged every inch of that 26 foot U-Haul truck using the height to their advantage as all experienced movers do.  You could tell that it was not their first rodeo. Moving Day:  It is our luck that it started raining the night before and that there was no hope that it was going to stop the entire day.  Because of bad experiences, Ronnie had concerns.  He knew that typically when moving things in the rain, bad things occur like damage to flooring because of the water and mud or worse damage to personal items like furniture and electronics.  Ronnie voiced his concerns and we did have to sign an additional waver but this was totally understandable.  Now we did prepare as best as possible, shrink wrapping all furniture and wrapping in towels/sheets/moving blankets.  We also threw area rugs everywhere to try to catch what we could, but the 2 men were always aware and attempted to minimize the dirt by rubbing their feet near ever time them walked in the door.  Again I can't express how good the guys were. Overall:  This was our first time using a moving company, and I hope to never have to move again, but if we do, I will be using Diversity Moving Company. read more
