Unexpected Charges and Poor Planning -- Be Cautious I hired Make Moves LLC based on two detailed quotes from their manager, Nick: $885 for packing and $1,619 for moving. I expected to pay around $2,500 total. Instead, I was charged $4,817.75, almost double the estimate. Several issues led to this overage: Poor planning: The truck they sent wasn't large enough to fit everything. Nick admitted this mid-move but still charged me for a second truck and two extra movers. Packing inefficiency: Movers used excessive wrapping (e.g., separating lids from plastic bins and wrapping them individually) and packed large boxes only halfway full. Lack of transparency: I wasn't told about the extra charges until I had no choice but to accept -- our belongings were already loaded. When I raised concerns, Nick dismissed them as "your opinion." I felt taken advantage of. Unless you're okay with being charged well beyond your quote, I recommend finding another company. read more

This was bar none the worst moving experience my wife and I have ever had. We hired Make Moves to do a local move (10 minutes between houses) after we bought our new house in early July 2020. They were unprofessional, careless with many of our things (primarily the one seemingly newer guy who was with them), short staffed by two people, and of the 4 guys they did send, two of them absolutely hated each other, complained about working for the company, and turned everything into a complete ordeal. When all was said and done we ended up with a broken ottoman, a loveseat with a ripped arm rest, an arcade cabinet that got banged to hell and back, an antique dresser got a huge deep gouge in it, they scratched up one of our antique end tables, scratched up our Ikea desk, scratched up our dining room table, broke a drawer from a desk that was a gift from my wife's grandparents, didn't put several pieces of furniture back together including the spare bed (because they lost all the screws as we later found out), left tons of things still in the plastic wrapping, and they littered multiple drink containers around the new and old houses. And that's just the damage we've found so far. As months go by we continue to find more and more things their movers damaged. We were refunded for the ottoman damage by 50 dollars at the end of the move but that's all we saw before they left, as they were in a hell hurry to get out of there as soon as the last item came off the truck. Now I know why. Ultimately we feel disrespected and our furniture clearly meant nothing to these movers. This is bar none the worst moving experience we've ever had, literally leaving us wishing we had moved our house ourselves (or better yet hired a better moving company) and saved the heartache of having all of our furniture banged up and disrespected. So far the company has refunded us another $250 as an apology, but they have promised time and time again to have their furniture repair guy come out to repair the damages their movers caused. It pains me to admit that it has now been about 3 months since the complaint was filed with Make Moves and we have never heard from this "furniture repair guy". Every time I follow up with Make Moves I basically get written off or fed some line about how busy this guy is. I wanted to hold off on writing a review until they had a chance to make it right, but I'm sorry, we've now been moved in for 3 months and we're still living with damaged furniture. I would not recommend this company to literally anyone. We paid good money to have our furniture destroyed, our home disrespected, and to be disrespected as customers. Look elsewhere. read more

After less than an hour of work (as expected), I was disappointed to discover after they had left that several doors were left unlocked and/or open, a hand-knit hat was seemingly used as a doorstop (I would prefer to assume it were an accident except for how I found it), a framed mirror was damaged and set aside with no mention of it - I discovered it myself later. read more

The good: My move was easy to schedule, the estimate was able to be done via email, and they were on time the day of the move. The three guys were pleasant, professional, and worked quickly. The total cost ended up being the low end of my estimate, which was the lowest estimate I received. The less good: There was about a quarter size chunk taken out of the ceiling above the stairs that wasn't mentioned. However this is easily forgivable because I'm assuming it happened while moving a very heavy and awkward item upstairs. I much later discovered that item had had a piece broken off as well. They asked as each item went in which room it was to go to. That very heavy and awkward item ended up in the wrong room and was actually too wide for the doorway with hinges, requiring me to take the door down and move it myself later. Most of the boxes for the second floor were also in the wrong room (the one closest to the top of the stairs, probably not coincidentally), which seems like an easy mistake to avoid when each room upstairs is painted a distinctly different color and each box was very clearly labeled by room color. read more

I had a great experience all around with Make Moves! First, I struggled to find a company who was willing to take on a smaller job, since I only needed to move 2 pieces of furniture and a mattress. Bobby, who gave me my estimate, was more than happy to help me and said that it would be no problem. The estimate was spot on, and their minimum was right around our budget for the move. The estimate was easy to understand and outlined exactly what we were paying for, and it was simple to book the service when I had read over the estimate. On the day of the move, Collen and Sam called me when they were on their way, arrived promptly, and were extremely efficient. Since it was a small move, they were able to do it pretty quickly. They had no problems carrying my heavy furniture down 3 large flights of stairs, and they were very careful. At the house, they positioned the furniture a few times so we could see what looked best and were so helpful at figuring out how to get everything to fit in the room. They helped me do an inventory of the apartment to determine how long it would take, and then adjusted the inventory when I realized that I had forgotten items. On the day of the move, two men arrived and were very careful about what to load into the truck and what to leave behind. (I was dividing up my belongings between three locations, which made moving much more difficult.) They were able to accommodate a short notice move, which was appreciated. It was a short distance, no stairs move with several large pieces of furniture, some boxes and a kitchen that needed packed. They even got me a Certificate of insurance that I requested. The guys were on time, very pleasant and professional. All the heavy furniture was moved without any problems. They decided that an IKEA desk could not be removed from the house because it needed to be disassembled and probably wouldn't be able to be reassembled. There is a certain amount of stress involved with a move and I just decided to trust their judgement, even though the cost included the desk. There was no damage to the furniture or either house. Overall I was pleased with how smoothly it went. The issues arose afterward. The desk had to be moved by someone, that someone was my partner and he had no problem disassembling and then reassembling the desk. In addition, going through the kitchen cabinets that were to be packed and moved? That we paid to have packed? There was a large drawer and lower cabinet that were completely missed. Would I use them again? Maybe? But I'd check everything and not just assume what I wanted was done. And it's not cool that you can't trust people. read more

I had a bit of a complicated move last month-- we had packed our house across the country into three Pods, and needed them unloaded at a (much smaller) town home in Pennsylvania, with the added complication of not being able to park more than one Pod on the street at a time. Luckily, I found Make Moves on Thumbtack, and they did a fantastic job for me at a really reasonable price. The three guys who came each day were very friendly and did a fantastic job. When a table was damaged because of how it was loaded, one of them even went above and beyond and fixed it for me. They didn't waste any time and stayed in my budgeted time each day. They were also flexible about timing for me, since I didn't always know when exactly the Pod would arrive and be available for unloading. When they got stuck in traffic and got delayed one day between Carnegie and Greensburg (understandable), they stayed in communication and never left me wondering what was going on. We had flooding in our basement family room. There was no way we could move the furniture out by ourselves, so we started calling movers and the quotes we received were "outrageous". The labor team arrived slightly late and one man short (no big deal) but was professional throughout the entire process. Unfortunately, the office sent a truck that was far too small for the job, which resulted in us being unable to complete our move in one trip. The team also had to fight the small truck to load only a partial load. Everything listed on our estimate was unable to fit on the small U-haul (yes, they brought a U-haul for a four BR home). Let me say that again, ITEMS INCLUDED ON OUR ESTIMATE were not able to be moved. Of course, we also had a few items that were over looked (we're talking boxes and an end table) on the estimate... but I would have happily excluded them if the ENTIRE ESTIMATE was moved. Our small handful of items did not eat up so much room to prevent moving nearly an entire garage full of furniture and boxes. At the end of the day, the company management and I agreed on a one hour labor credit to offset the time the team spent arranging and rearranging and rearranging the truck to maximize space. I simply wanted to cut my losses and get what could fit moved. Again, the team was great, friendly, professional... but the office screwed me and their own employees. In summary, this company arrived in a U-Haul to save money, and it ended up costing me another move and their worker's time. read more

We hired Make Moves in May to move the contents of our house to a storage unit. During the move they damaged the porch railing and our bedroom dresser. I called about filing a claim, but was told that I had to file the claim with the owner. I left my contact information, but he never called back. I called a second time, and left my information again. I did receive a voicemail from them asking if $20 would be okay for the damage to the porch. I returned the call and was told that the owner was on vacation and would call me back in a week. I never heard back, so I called a fourth time and left a voicemail. It is now September, and I have yet to hear from anyone about receiving compensation for the damages. read more

Really poor communication and customer service. Spoke to James who indicated that he was holding a move spot open for us pending a formal quote. We completed the requested information and received follow up emails that the original spot was no longer available -and he needed to change the date. Then received yet another email that they could only accommodate us on another day to which we agreed. Within minutes he responded saying that spot was not available any more (all of this correspondence was happening within the same morning). When I called to ask what was going on he told me he "forgot to tell me that it was all first come first served." There is no way I could have responded faster. Zero attempt to rectify despite them changing the move date and time on us several times in the space of a single morning; we are past customers and will not be using any longer. read more
