Good food, excellent service, And the pure vibe of the place is top notch. I love this place 10/10 would recommend.

I was very excited to be one of the few Elite Yelpers to be invited to the Culinary Fight Club Boston "The Steak". I arrived at Hotel Indigo in Auburndale at 5:45 as the Event started at 6 pm. I was pleasantly surprised that the competition was held poolside. Had I known, I would have opted to dress for a quick dip. That put aside, it was perfect weather for an outdoor cook off. The sun was shining, the water in the pool was sparkling, the crowd was bustling, the fight staff were setting up a huge table of food items for the Chefs to grab and best of all the bar was open as in Free Open Bar :) The Chefs must have had a plan, as the whistle blew to start the competition, the Chefs run from the starting line to the table piled high with vegetables, spices, garnishes and more. When the last Chef picked the remaining few items from the table, all that was left were a few broken eggs. Once the Chefs brought their aprons full of supplies back to their cooking area, grills were already hot, the Chefs were called poolside to a table covered in different kinds of mushrooms. I guess they had a drawing as they were called to the table one at a time to choose the box of their favorite Shrooms. When the last box of mushrooms were chosen the Chefs were all back at their makeshift kitchens cutting, chopping and slicing away as fast and as carefully as possible. This allowed all the guests time to walk around and enjoy the free cocktails and mingle while watching these amazing Chefs prepare their magic. The Judges were comprised of some Executive Chefs, TV Personality and a Comic. They were all extremely professional and were available to talk, ask questions and for some even photo opts. Once all the STEAK was cooked and plated the competition was on. The Judges tasted each contestants meat with sides as the entire audience looked on and drooled. Appetizers from the hotel were being distributed in large quantities to hold us over until it was our turn to judge. When the Judges were done it was now everyone else's turn to try all the fabulous BBQ STEAK. I felt as though I was on TV. As the crowd hustled to their favorite Chefs table to nibble on the finished product, my daughter and I decided to start with Chef number one and work our way quickly and quietly around to assure a taste of all the STEAK. To conclude a great event, every one gathered around to hear the names of the winner and runner ups, and scurried around to try seconds and thirds of the Chefs final product. If you ever have an opportunity to attend a Culinary Fight Club Event or any Cook Off for that matter, I highly suggest you go. You will have a great time. Culinary Fight Club doesn't actually list an address on their website. Just saying. The address currently listed in the profile actually belongs to Hotel Indigo, which was the location of "The Steak" edition held on July 31, 2017. Like the other reviewers of this event (well, thus far), I was a guest of Culinary Fight Club through Yelp. Thank you! Early Bird tickets were available till the week before the battle for $30 (plus ticket fee), after which the price went to $50. As mentioned by Ken, $25 day of tickets were available on site. However, to quote their website - "The best part, the first 100 ticket holders will get to taste + vote on their favorite Bite!" - so evidently, the Steak event was capped, and that was the risk taken in waiting to pay at the door... At Hotel Indigo, the event was held at the patio by their pool. Each contestant was set up with a station covered with a canopy and provided with tables, a grill, a top burner, your kitchen basics (salt, pepper, vegetable oil), and for this event - a big ole chunk of beef. The actual cooking began after a literal race for pantry items (ie. butter, garlic, flour, bread, seasonings, produce), and each team had chosen their type of mushroom (ah, a secret ingredient!). From my prime viewing spot, I had been warned that ingredients may fly, but I think our group of contestants may have been a bit more thoughtful in their selections, so there was little to no danger. My ticket included beer, nosh, and a Taster's Choice voting ballot. Beer came in the form of a 2 hour long open bar. Nosh was evident as plates of passed appetizers, which included pizza, sliders, sacchetti, and cotton candy. (Those little stuffed pasta bundles were the best!) Hustle was the name of the game here. I had to hustle to be within hearing distance of the emcee and to be able to see anything good. I had to hustle to get a few bites since the event did take place during prime dinner time having started at 6pm. I had to hustle to go from station to station and to watch as they prepared their entry for the competition. I had to hustle to get any sort of view of the judging since everything was on the same level, and there was no border set to enable everyone to see from a distance - instead the crowd of attendees were nearly right on top of the judges, the emcee, the photographers, well, everyone and everything. One station I saw trying to cook (was it chopped bacon?) in a waffle maker - being creative I see! But no, it was because their grill was on the fritz. Fortunately, after a bit, their neighboring station, who was working on their beef tartar, was willing to send their working grill on over to them. Evidence of how community minded and charitable the restaurant hospitality industry is, it seems, even during a competition! As they cooked and we munched, there were also two charitable options taking place - a 50/50 raffle for Fight2Feed, and a Silent Auction for framed sports photos, some of which was autographed, to benefit another charity (I missed the name, oops!). While the official tasting and judging was still going on, I noticed some of the stations starting to get their tasting samples together, so I meandered that way to start my own personal judging process. They gave us plenty of time for this, which was great since after a bit we started having to queue up. But still, there was a longer than necessary lull before the results were announced, and by then the crowd had thinned out somewhat and the sun had set. The winner: Chef Drew Blanckenberg of Cricket Cafe & Catering, with his terrifically tender beef served with fresh mushroom and egg yolk ravioli. He actually won twice - both the official judgement, and the Taster's Choice - and yes, I voted for him, though Chef Mike Fucci of Chef Mike's Catering put up a good show and finished 2nd in the Taster's Choice. read more

Full disclosure, I got free tickets through Yelp Elite. This was a fun event and I would likely go to another, but it was not without flaws. First, the price for attending. I suspect a lot of people bought tickets on-line. The price was $30 for early birds and $50 after that. I'm not sure who early you had to buy to get the "Early Bird" price. When we arrived at the venue, I was very surprised to see that they were selling tickets for $25. I would have been slightly annoyed if I had paid $30 in advance and really Pi**ed if I had paid $50 earlier that day. The people behind me in the line were NOT pleased. My complaints are about poor organization. For an hour before the cooking started, you could get free wine and beer and some appetizers. The appetizers came out one tray at a time and it took me some time to realize that unless you were watching out for a new tray to appear and rushed over, the trays would always empty by time they got to me. There were problems with the sound system and one of the hosts was walking around talking to people pretending that his microphone was actually working when, in fact, it was dead. Even when someone had a working microphone, the volume was low enough that I could not hear everything that was said. One of the chefs had major problems with his stove/BBQ not working and was saying he got screwed. After the judging, we waited around for the results. When we had waited quite a while and at least 2/3 of the people had already left, there was still no sign of anything happening, we finally left, still not knowing who won. The next day, I went to their web page hoping to find results, but no luck. If someone would post the results, I would appreciate it. read more

Fight Fight Fight for Steak! What excitement to see chefs from different areas locally and at the end enjoy everyone's craft of my favorite meat. Love it. The CFC created a fun competitive time and draw a good crowd. Lots of local celebrities. Will love to witness this again. Congrats to chef Mike! read more
