Inspection report during purchase reflected that. After move-in I found a few issues (well, and nitpicks). The seller pointed me to Ali when I raise these problems (one door had minor alignment problem, a sink had minor leak, the hole behind the doorbell was larger than I wanted, etc.). Ali patiently listen to my concerns, coordinated his team to fix all the issues for me. I am really grateful for his help especially I didn't pay him anything. This really shows me how Ali stand behind his work! I would definitely work with Ali again in the future if I have any project!

Since the plans were already approved and ready, Renovate Max team focused on execution and moved things forward. One of the biggest challenges for us was that we lived in the house during the latter half of the construction. The team was respectful of this and made a consistent effort to maintain our privacy and minimize disruption to our daily routine. We have hired Tawmie, the owner of All About the Finish for a number of projects over the years and…read moreshe has never failed to amaze us. She created a fantastic pull-out pantry for us on the top half of a very deep closet and pull-out drawers on the bottom. She helped us visualize how to modestly remodel our kitchen by turning a wall that had previously had an oven wall into a counter extension with cabinets on top and drawers underneath (the drawers were refurbished from the drawers under the stovetop which we replaced with a full oven/stove. Later we rehired her for a hall closet remake that has pull out drawers and a place for a broom and mop. After that, we hired her to turn our perpetually broken sliding bedroom closet doors into accordion-style doors. She used the original doors. Most recently we've hired her to create a corner table in our living room to hold a sculpture. She just finished that today, and we love it. Next week, she's installing two benches she constructed on either side of a beautiful cabinet made by my father-in-law many decades ago which we just inherited. Tawmie will take the time to listen to what we want, help us brainstorm and visualize what the outcome will be, and then make something that exceeds our expectations. We highly recommend her.

For a business that is named 'All about the FINISH' ... well Tawmie never finished the job we had…read moreoriginally agreed on. Maybe it's because she's too busy now with all her new business from the 'yelp phenomenon' and the 8 week wait, so she can't be bothered with finishing a small job with clients she didn't get along with. We, too were impressed with the yelp reviews here and contracted her to do some detail work on our kitchen remodel late last year. We were on a really tight timeline (baby #2 arrival was imminent) and the holidays were coming up. Tawmie was initially very flexible and accommodating, and suggested that although she wouldn't be able to personally do the work right away, she knew someone who could at least get the first part of the job done (we were waiting on some additional trim and it was understood from the beginning that part of the job would be completed in December, and the rest completed in the new year). We agreed. After the subcontractor started work, we expressed to Tawmie that we felt his work was not as good as we had hoped. Now, let me be clear. At this point the job was (and still is) not complete. We made our judgment based on unfinished work. Tawmie made a point of saying this, and I agree. However, instead of simply stopping there and reassuring us the work, on completion, would be much improved, Tawmie's attitude became very defensive and confrontational. For example. There is a really tricky area around our window casing that is just plain awkward. We discussed a lot of different options, and finally I agreed to one. We ended up not liking the way it looked, and requested that it be re-done a different way. Instead of taking it in stride and simply agreeing to re-work the area, (which, IMO is a non-issue as we were paying by the hour) we got into a back and forth regarding the fact that I had approved the work to be done the way it had been completed. I wasn't arguing that at all. I just changed my mind when I saw the end result, wanted to have it re-done, and apparently that was an issue. (I can't possibly be the first person to want work redone because I changed my mind??) Finally, we agreed to pay Tawmie for most of the work that had already been completed, and would pay the balance on completion of the job in January after the extra trim arrived etc... When we contacted Tawmie in January, she responded that she would not come back and do any more work on the job until she received payment for the full balance for the work that had already been done. This was NOT what we had agreed on in December. And, of the many contractors I have worked with over the years, I have never paid them until a job was fully completed. We have tried to contact Tawmie by phone multiple times to follow up regarding this, but as it stands right now, she has not responded to our calls, and our kitchen trim is still not finished. It is Tawmie's attitude in response to our concerns that clearly sent our relationship southward, and has me here writing a two star review, which frankly, is not a fun thing for me to do. I would much rather be writing a glowing review. I acknowledge that communication could have been improved on both ends, but at the end of the day, managing clients (us) and the work being farmed out (subcontractor) is part of growing a business. As far I can see Tawmie's craftsmanship is excellent, but her customer service needs a bit of... finish.

Here are some words that come to mind when I think of Chris and his team: Trustworthy - Any issues that came up during the remodel Chris alerted me of immediately and quickly remedied. I never feared that he would cut corners and cover it up. He takes great pride in his work. Dependable - He and his team were at my house continually during the main part of the project. I never felt abandoned. I never had to chase Chris to get work complete. When the main part of the remodel is complete there are always tiny things that still need attention. Chris manages a "punch list" at the end of a project to make sure all the smaller details are taken care of. He sees this list through to completion with the same dedication and dependability as the main part of the remodel. I truly appreciate this! Quality - This is really wrapped up in the first two words I described above. Everything from his customer service level to his work exemplifies quality. Personable - For me this is so important. Chris has a great personality. He is serious about his work and very detailed oriented but he also has a very relaxed and friendly attitude. I never felt pressured into anything. I felt comfortable bombarding him with a myriad of questions and ideas and he always took the time to answer them whether that be in person, over the phone or e-mail. When you call bay home builders you get Tom Ras, you do not get the people who do the actual work…read more For me he solicited a roofing family out of Vallejo who did 5+ work on redoing my roof. After Tom and I met and spoke we shook hands and he reacted to my handshake. I told him that handshake means "do not mess with me." He saw I have lots of books and he mentioned to me a book called "the bronze horseman." It said on amazon this book is for Russia what the thorn birds was for Australia so I bought it. Tom came the next day and said he bought the book for me. He wanted a check. I stalled. He said: I will be back in couple hours to pick up the check and get the book. He came back, got his check but I got no book. I said nothing. Tuesday before the 4th he showed me again the order of the book on amazon and the order had gone to an address down by LA and he is driving down to LA over the 4th and pick it up. Sunday evening after the 4th he called and said: "my father is coming to visit from Israel and flying in to LA he will pick up the book," and will I do a review he will send me the link. Well it is another week gone by and no book and no word from Tom. Like I said: I already bought the book. I do not need Tom to buy my books just honest middle man, a true professional who knows what he says and keeps his word and that is not Tom. A businessman who does not listen to his client is a poor businessman. Why Tom Why? I do not need you to buy me books. A man at 40 should have build up some equity in his character, man-up Tom!

Still a 3 in my book- My fully remodeled master bath is barely 5 years old and already falling…read moreapart. Leaking through the floor into the garage. The sheetrock needs to be replaced, the pan. All of the tile will have to come out to replace it. Very, very disappointing. It's great to be nice and all but if the work doesn't hold up, that's the ultimate test.
