There was clearly a big disparity in ability, motivation, and competence between the two. I was present for both the pack out and delivery, which was completed in one full day. They had to disassemble a treadmill, furniture, and two beds in the packout, and they hadn't a clue regarding the treadmill, which they ultimately damaged getting it out of the house. A new leather sofa was also damaged when they failed to cover it adequately and were unable to position it properly while going through the front entry. A wooden coat rack was torn off the wall during the couch dilemma. The helper, who appeared to be a recent or day of hire also dropped a tabletop on his foot, and it appeared that he would not be able to continue. After a 15-minute min. pause, however, he was back to work and never mentioned his injured foot again. The single bright spot in the experience was the insurance for the damage caused. A supervisor followed up, and after providing him with photos of the damage, a monetary settlement/allowance was agreed to and satisfactory. Would not be a repeat customer.

They assured me it would be fine. They then broke it during a mere 4 mile move, and would not replace it (a 2 x 2 foot piece of marble) because I did not purchase extra insurance. They agreed to pay $60, which, after numerous phone calls, they never paid. This company used to be good, and I've used them for a number of moves. They are now corrupt, unethical shysters who focus on the money-grab, and could care less about people.

My mother had a medical emergency on the day they were supposed to start packing. We called, explained and were offered the next available date. There was no penalty or fee incurred, which was appreciated. They were efficient, quick and although not all boxes are unpacked, we've only had one item with minot damage. Jason, Jacob and Elijah were patient with and kind to my aging and sometimes difficult parents. I would use this company again!

O'Mara Moving & Storage, Inc., 1240 S. Adams Ave., Freeport, IL,…read more picked up, stored and later delivered a Steinway Model B Grand Piano with an appraised value of $42,000. The final move [100 miles] was $1100 on top of the "Climate Controlled" storage bill of $1728. The piano arrived with obvious gouges and damage to the finish on the case and on the inside of the piano I discovered mouse droppings, mold, mildew and rust on the strings. So, not only was it damaged in the move it was further damaged in the so-called "Climate Controlled" storage facility. The piano was in pristine condition when O'Mara Moving & Storage originally picked it up from a residence in Freeport. Repair costs are in the $10,000 - $20,000 range. O'Mara Moving & Storage refused to take any responsibility for the damage so I filed a small claims case in Freeport, IL [as was required because I signed the contract there] where the limit for small claims cases is $10,000. The Judge found that O'Mara Moving & Storage was negligent and ruled in our favor, with the caveat that the check be written not just to me but also to a repair shop - in other words, rather than the damage award going to me personally, the only way for me to get the $8600 was to have it repaired even though I owned it outright and there was no lien [he didn't want me to get a "windfall"]. The award was not even enough to cover all the costs related to the repair [i.e. additional moving expense] so I would have to spend even more money getting it repaired - this on top of the $3100 total paid to O'Mara Moving & Storage for their incompetent, misleading services, and this doesn't even include legal fees incurred. As I understand it O'Mara Moving & Storage is self-insured and their "insurance" company is York Risk Services in Chicago. York is actually a Third Party Administrator which provides claims & legal services to self-insured companies. It was York's lawyers - Knight, Hoppe, Kurnik & Knight, Ltd. of Rosemont, IL - that we had to deal with in small claims court - neither Michael O'Mara or his son Sean even bothered to show up. Bottom line is, BEWARE OF O'MARA MOVING & STORAGE! They are NOT trustworthy.
