I love coming to this place. It's been a long time but the service is amazing. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. The food is great! My pollo tropical (tropical chicken breast) was Devine! I have never had pineapples over grilled chicken breast before. It gave it that extra umph! The rice and veggies were also delicious. The martini I had was good. It's basically a cosmo. Listen the bartender does not go light on the liquor. I ordered from DoorDash and everything arrived in good fashion. I got the pulled beef bowl with black beans, rice and and veggies. Was a pretty good portion for the price. I added a chicken empanada on the side. The beef and veggies were good, I think a good option if you're going for something quick and semi healthy. Nothing to write home about but a decent option. Stopped here for lunch with a coworker and really enjoyed it! The food was delicious and I loved the space. We came at lunch so there was a bit of a wait to order, but everything came out in a reasonable time. I've been here multiple times during the week and love it here! They have happy hour 4-6pm during the week and it's half off all alcoholic drinks. I got a raspberry mojito for $5 and it was so fruity and spritzy. The empanadas were so delicious and unique. The steak sandwich arrived soggy and did not taste fresh. Even worse, it came without french fries, which was one of the main reasons I chose this item. Met a friend for lunch and neither of us had been here before. I love the interior-- they have intentional paint-peeled walls with pastel colors to make you feel like you're in Havana. We shared a beef empanada which was so flavorful and packed with meat. I loved my arroz con pollo, it was flavored very well. My friend loved her pollo asada bowl. Cubanitas is always a good decision. The cocktails are good, and they have specials during the week and happy hour. I tried a coconut margarita for the first time and really enjoyed it. Four of us came at 1:00 p.m. on a Wednesday, a time that worked for us, but apparently for no one else. The place was empty. Parking at 1:00 is still horrible on that street so consider doing a hike from wherever. Somewhat negative to me is that the restaurant economizes on staff by having you place your order at the bar, but then still gives the lowest tip option at 18%. Because the food choices are interesting, creative, and unique to Milwaukee, however, it's cheaper to travel to Cubanitas than to Cuba. Soooooooooo, we'll come again. I am a sucker for a good Cuban sandwich, and the one at Cubanitas is one I will keep returning for. Admittedly, after trying the Cuban on my first visit, I haven't explored much else on the menu, but that's a testament to how good it is. It scratches all of the boxes of a traditional Cuban - ham, pork, pickles, mustard on pressed Cuban bread. It's up there with one of my favorites regardless of location. During the lunch hour they are counter service only, which is pretty efficient. A number of different mojitos are available, as well as other beverages if you're looking to power lunch it or are looking for an evening libation. Cubanitas will continue to be a regular stop whenever I'm in Milwaukee. read more

Each of my visits to Cubanitas has been good. I've tried a half dozen items, each more than adequate. Staff, too, have been friendly and mostly quite helpful. Oddly, at lunch orders are taken at the bar and a number given for fit to be delivered by a server. This seems incongruent with the overall ambience and really does not seem to increase efficiency. I'll be back, but I wonder if some manager presence could make this a 5-star option. read more

I first tried Cubanita's prior to the pandemic and at the time, it was the best Cuban sandwich I'd ever had. I returned to Milwaukee February of 2024 and had my second visit and am happy to report that my first impression is still correct! Cubanita's Cuban sandwich is still the best one I've had, and I've had many since my first trip to Milwaukee. Along with amazing food, Cubanita's also has friendly staff members, quick service and a welcoming environment. They have amazing drink specials, including a mojito of the month each month that feature a new and creative flavor at only $10 each! Some other specials include guava-mosas for only $5 on weekends and $6 mojitos on Mondays. I will definitely return to Cubanita's on my next trip to Milwaukee! read more

Cubanitas is a great addition to downtown milwaukees eclectic food scene. For appetizers their empanadas are really good, we often start out with an order of yucca frites too. I loveeeee their fried tilapia sandwich. Tonight I got the tilapia entree instead with rice and beans which was also really good. It hit my fish fry Friday craving for sure. Husband got the tropical chicken which had great flavor. For lunch he likes to get the bowls to take back to the office. I also like to enjoy the mint lemonade, and on the weekend a nice mojito. This place is authentically authentic Cuban food owned by a Cuban family. And this is coming from a Cuban American. The food is delicious and very hearty. It is traditional Cuban food not like what you see at other restaurants in the area posing and offering "" Cuban food. They have great drinks and a happy hour every day a specialty drink at six dollars. The ropa vieja and palomilla bistec (steak) are delicious and the green and fried plantains are as well. They have wonderful service by the owners and the other folks that work there that are very helpful. And they have outdoor seating which is also very nice unless when it's snowing of course. Cosmopolitan experience in the midwest here on Milwaukee St. This long standing resident here in downtown makes you feel like your in old Havana. Although it's got a swanky feel to it, there were some diners (yours truly included) in sports attire and we were welcomed just like everyone else. We spotted in on a Friday around 6 and it wasn't too busy but by the time we left there was a line out the door. Classic dishes like a Cuban sandwich and ropa Viejo are specialities but they have a number of different sandwiches on Cuban bread (the turkey, Swiss and strawberry jam sandwich I had was excellent) Plantains, Cuban wings, empanadas and even Cuban chicken tenders were some appetizer options. They have a large bar on one wall, and serve all sorts of flavors of margaritas and mojitos (including non-alcoholic versions) even south America is represented with the very excellent Caipirinha I had (Brazilian drink made with sugar cane liquor). Amazing. I've been on a pescatarian kick lately and it's very difficult to find places that serve delicious fried fish. Cubanitas has an amazing fish sandwich (pan con tilapia). What made is special was the tasty sauce and the "crunch" that ensued upon that first bite. I also ordered the plantain chips and the portions are decent. I also loved that there was outdoor seating and how the restaurant opens up to the outdoors. The service was also friendly and they bring your meal to your seat! Wait! I've never reviewed Cubanita's after eating there several times over several years?! Wow! Well, first every dish I've had was delicious, but of course I have my favorites, including their Cubano sandwich, which I typically order with a side of their yuca fries because they are amazing, and the Ropa Vieja (Spanish for old clothes), which is essentially tender and insanely delicious shredded flank steak in a tomato sauce with onions and bell peppers! When you go, I think you should start with those two dishes, get hooked, and then go back to explore more of the menu, such as the empanadas, croquetas de jamon (ham fritters), Plantain Platter with guac (I can't stop eating this appetizer), Lechon Asado, or one of the more recently added Havana Bowls. The menu has evolved over the years, but the quality and great service remain. They're open for lunch amd dinner, they have a full bar, and have locations downtown and Oak Creek, so check them out and plan your next visit while you're on your first visit! read more

Beware: The plantains chips are highly addictive!! Ordering them is a must. We only had the plantain chips, served with guacamole, but I definitely want to try the other ones (sweet & tostones) next time I go. I came here for my first time with a group to celebrate a friend's birthday. The decor is bright and festive - the walls are covered with interesting images and fun colors. We started with plantains and guacamole, as well as a shrimp empanada. I split this with a friend and it was the perfect size to share as an app. For the entree, I went with a classic, the cuban sandwich. The sandwich did not come with a side, but I ordered a side of sautéed vegetables for $5. Decent portion of onions, carrots, bell peppers, and zucchini. I enjoyed the cuban and the vegetables very much. The sandwich has a generous portion of meat and is toasted beautifully. I especially enjoyed the bread. Since our group was bigger than 6, an automatic 20% gratuity was added to our bills. This is fine of course, but it was not written anywhere, nor was it mentioned by our server. I'm assuming most of the table added another tip on top of the gratuity. I asked if they did anything for birthdays and the server said "we can do a birthday shot." I asked about dessert, but was told I would have to pay. I ended up paying for a scoop of coconut ice cream ($2.50) which I'm guessing is less than a shot.
