This place is a cheese lovers paradise; with many other speciality items as well. Not a long drive from the Buffalo area, the town is one of the smaller ones but quaint. I was blown away, and I'm sure my mom would have been as well with over 400 different cheeses to choose from. Both of our favorites were the port wine cheese spread and a few others. The store variety was rather extensive in jellies, fudge, crackers, honey, candy, car charms, summer sausage. Overall did pick a few things up, port wine cheese spread, yogurt pretzels, Colby thick brick of cheese, fudge and lemon ginger snaps. Loved the artwork on outside of cows, made me feel more Country and on an adventure. Staff were pleasent, and they even had two different cheese samples. So, so deeply saddened. Do not order online. I repeat do not order online if you're across the country (in California here). I ordered a package online that showed up warm and with the wrong contents, also. Then my parents ordered me a package as a sentimental present and it again, also showed up warm. Putting a single store bought ice pack in a package meant to travel for several days across the country is completely useless and renders the product inedible. This has happened to me twice now. My MIL from Buffalo used to send us a Cuba Cheese gift basket every Christmas. The sharp and extra sharp cheddars were deliciously sharp and I always devoured it all in very little time. With those experiences in mind, I happily ordered a gift basket for my daughter and her fiance this Christmas. I've been asking them what they thought of it and finally had the chance to try some of the sharp cheddar for lunch today. What a disappointment! It was okay. Like Cracker Barrel is okay... I've been to a number of popular large-scale cheese shops in my life (wow, I never thought I'd make a statement like that), but somehow the Cuba Cheese Shop totally evaded my radar. I recently spent the weekend in the Southern Tier and while (vaguely) remembering that I had this spot bookmarked on Yelp, when we spotted the billboards after passing through Cuba, I knew we had to make a stop on the way back. They advertise as having "Over 400 Cheeses," and while I didn't take the time to count each individual type of cheese offered, I don't doubt this claim! The Cuba Cheese shop is a pretty large-scale facility that offers literally any kind of cheese you could think of. Also, the kinds of cheese you'd never even be able to dream up. Their selection here ranges from blocks to curds to spreads, and a great assortment of other snacks, crackers, and goodies. The inside of the shop is fairly small, but you can tell that most of the building's space is taken up by the production and packaging in the back. I don't know how they do it, I just know I was absolutely mesmerized during my visit, and am really looking forward to coming back to buy more cheese! I would absolutely recommend this place to cheese-lovers and cheese enthusiasts, or really, anybody looking to shop for some gouda quality cheese. They're not the friendliest so I'm guessing they really aren't after tourists. We felt kind of bothersome so just grabbed a few things and got out. The cheese curds were quite nice, (dill), soft, (no squeak), so that's personal preference. There a re a lot of cheese from all over, not just Cuba so you're bound to find something you like for the road. I also found sponge candy, or sea foam, in milk and dark chocolate, which is my fave and hard to find. I have been shopping here for high quality cheese's since 1979. I no longer live in the area now, but like to purchase CCS gift bundles for family and friends. I recently made a huge purchase for friends & relatives as Christmas/New Years gifts, after coming home a 4 month work assignment out of town. Every time that I've made a trip home to CattCo in the past, I would drive all over creation looking for cheese curd. Sometimes the grocery stores have it, but it's usually dried out and starting to get a funky sour taste. The Amish store has it, but I can never figure out when that place is open, and when they are open they always seem to be sold out of plain and only have wacky flavors like dill (plus the smell of that place makes me want to yack). You may have tried "Helluva Good" brand cheese curd, but to me it always tastes like sad little pieces of dry, sour mozzarella. It doesn't really resemble cheese curd at all. Real cheese curd is chunky, squeaky, slightly rubbery, moist and salty/sweet. My advice is to go directly to Cuba Cheese Shoppe (preferably after you've enjoyed a meal at Sprague's Maple Farm http://www.yelp.com/biz/spragues-maple-farms-inc-portville). They ALWAYS have it and it usually doesn't even get a chance to set out long enough to get cold. Have a taste of real cheese curd and you'll eat a pound in one sitting. I guarantee you won't poop for a week! In addition to cheese curd, they have tons of other kinds of cheese that you won't find anywhere else in the area plus dried meats, candies and other food items including Angelica salt rising bread (promise me that you'll get some, because it makes out-of-this-world toast). She made great recommendations, a lot of which we ended up buying. SO you see a billboard for cheese on I86. You not really close to anything after the Casino heading East. There's this small buildling from outside the store and the parking lot in front of store was packed. They have two cows to pose for pictures with outside. The first thing inside the door are free samples. This is a very good thing! There were about four cheeses with rice crackers, all were really good. They didn't put out the cheap stuff either, the blue cheese was $18/pound. There are hundreds of cheeses here, and an hour of shopping at least. Definetely try the THREE Year old Cheddar (it has a born on date). This is to die for cheese, with cream aftertaste and for $8.99/lb a steal. Longhorn swiss, another awesome choice. A first time visit today for my wife and I, who were introduced to the wonderful cheese curds sold here by some friends who had stopped here previously. They have everything imaginable inside when it comes to cheese, but they also sell a wide variety of candies, fudge, honey, peanut butter, and even maple products.
