One gourmet grilled cheese sandwich cut in half.
    Andrea M.

Cheese Secrets has a variety of cheese selections, jams, and gift items. But there's also a secret: Get the gourmet grilled cheese sandwich! The grilled cheese is the only thing they make, but it's definitely something to try! Though the sandwich was super simplistic, it was super duper yummy. The cheese spilling out of the sandwich made for a nice crisp edge. The gourmet cheese (I'm unsure of the cheese mixture from the shop) was gooey and warm in-between whole grain slices. It appears that those are the only ingredients. Though the sandwich was stellar and mouth watering, the price point of $12.99 (Canadian) wasn't too stellar. I mean. It is only a cheese sandwich. The photo I have with this review is one sandwich cut in half for us to share. The store was small ish and cozy. The staff were super friendly and nice. The inventory was cute to check out.

    Private cheese tasting event

What a gem! This specialized cheese shop offers cheeses from around the world but I especially love that they showcase a wide selection of local Ontario and domestic cheeses. There's also a small selection of cured meats as well as various jams/crackers/etc. for sale, making this the perfect pit stop before a picnic or for grabbing ingredients to make a charcuterie board. I actually came to Cheese Secrets for a more unique occasion: a private cheese tasting event for a bachelorette. It's not your typical bachelorette activity, but we had a cheese-loving bride and knew this was an absolute "must-do" for our Niagara trip. It ended up being one of the most memorable highlights of the weekend! Shoutout to Peggy, who led our cheese tasting and who was so knowledgeable, patient and generous throughout the event. You can tell how passionate she is about cheese and how she wanted to spread that love as well. Every cheese offered was excellent - my favorites being the more unqiue types like lavender gouda (actually purple in color!), truffle gouda, and merlot soaked cheddar-parmesan. Honestly though, I enjoyed every cheese that we tried, and Peggy had fantastic recommendations for every type that we were interested in. The bride was very happy and nearly everyone from the bachelorette bought something to bring home! Truly had a wonderful experience here and wish nothing but the best for this business. Hoping to come back next time I'm in Niagara!

Why, you may ask? Simply because I was totally overwhelmed by all the flavors and varieties of jams and jellies and marmalades here. Seriously, there are SO MANY flavors and varieties, I had no idea what to get my friends back home in Vancouver. Of course, now that I'm home, I seriously regret not getting MYSELF some of their wine jams (which I've heard are to die for). This shop is wonderful. If you like jams or need gifts for your jam-loving friends, you must come here. They sell mini jars in most flavors, and the pricing is great (as I recall, there was a discounted price if you get 5 mini jars - and you choose the flavors). They also have full-size jars, of course. In addition, they also have various relishes and other condiments, and local teas and coffees and kitchen-y stuff, too. The lady at the counter was nice but busy, and the store was bustling with people. You can tell this is a popular shop. With good reason.

Gift and specialty shop in Niagara-on-the-Lake [ON Canada]…read more I found plenty of affordable, cute items here to gift back home. It was a good thing they were decently priced because as I started to count my fingers on how many family members and co-workers I wanted to buy gifts for they started to add up quickly. When I try to turn up... my wallet says hold up! LoL! They had the most amazing selection of fudge, so many flavors including the Ice Wine fudge... I did not buy any, I was afraid of my sugar skyrocketing. but, wait! they have more than just fudge. They sold Maple products too from pure maple syrup to maple cookies to maple flavored coffee and more! Purchased a few of those maple syrup in the maple-shaped glass containers. So cute! Btw, their homemade fudge are made in copper kettles, the old fashioned way. The ambiance was the aroma of fresh fudge. I tried the ice wine chocolate and bought a bar. Ice wine is a dessert wine made from grapes frozen on the vine. Really good! It was fun looking around this shop. Great service! The fragile items I purchased were wrapped individually very carefully. If I ever return to Toronto I'll be making my first stop here and the store next to it (or was it two doors down?). The samples were tiny but divine. Of COURSE we had to buy some fudge! (This is a VERY DANGEROUS store). I chose half a slab of the maple fudge and half a slab of the cookies and cream fudge. Both were amazing but the maple was really phenomenal. I also got some large caramel blocks, half of which were enrobed in dark chocolate, and the other half in milk chocolate. (I gave these as gifts but was told they were fabulous). In addition to the many, many flavors of fudge that they make in-house daily, they also have lots of other sweet treats: jars and jars of gummies and penny candies and chocolate raisons or nuts, hard candy sticks in all sorts of flavors and colors, hard candies in decorative tins, licorice and All-Sorts, etc. I felt like a kid in a candy store here. Literally. And I loved it!

I often go there for lunch for some of their fresh sandwiches and salads, or I'll often stop by on the way home from work with some locally grown fruit/vegetables. All of Niagara's finest farmed products on out and on display. The Harvest Barn is a great alternative to fast food lunchtime ventures. The food tastes great and you feel healthy after eating - what a concept! The Harvest Barn also serves as a great alternative to the supersized Mega-grocery stores which are all too commonly found in suburban cities across North America (which also tend to import their produce from all over instead of fresh, locally grown food). Outside they have picnic tables if you feel like enjoying the sunshine, and also a small kids play area (ie. small wooden train) which is great for distracting the little rascals or hyperactive adults. They also have Fruit Baskets, Deli Trays, and Sandwich Platters. I've never had the pleasure of having any, but I wouldn't hesitate in ordering seeing as everything else I've tried has been pretty fantastic. The bottom line, I highly recommend the Harvest Barn because it's healthy, locally grown food and they take pride in the quality of service that they provide (and it shows).

Maybe next time, when I can bring a cooler! We ended up getting a milk chocolate chip cookie, cream cheese cookie, plain butter tart, pecan butter tart and a cheesecake cookie dough bar.
