We tried some of their pastries as a test run for a party we were planning. Pastries were limp, not fresh when we tried them. Hardly any filling. Eating them freshly baked may have improved the limp factor, but skimpy filling is not likely to improve. They did not have croquetas. HIDDEN GEM. This bakery's coffee is absolutely delicious. It has the richest taste with the simplest of ingredients: Cuban espresso, milk, and sugar (optional). Weekday and weekend mornings can be especially busy, but it is well worth the wait. The area has a heavy police presence, so make sure you are properly parked or you could get a ticket. The bakery had a beautiful array of Cuban pastries lined up and ready to eat. They also sell a ton of fresh bread, Cuban crackers, bread sticks, cookies and birthday cakes. Sadly I must be very particular about my guava, bc the one they use here is more of a jelly than a paste, and no cheese option in them. Not terrible options, but not like much better ones I've had. My favorite pastry was the cheese fingers, dedito de queso, those are sweet, but not aggressively sweet, and great ricotta filling inside. SKIP: The beef pastries, gross. CLEAR WIN: The Cuban Sandwich - and go large, get a bypass surgery right after or join a CrossFit gym. It is literally from the top of my fingertip down to my elbow, cut into four thick pieces to share, but remember this is not a requirement. The flavor was good on the meat, LOTS of it too, and the bread was nice and fresh. This monster of a sandwich is $12 and completely worth it. All I got was the powdered sugar everywhere but my taste buds. I ate them first because for no reason I was waiting 15 minutes in a nearly empty restaurant. Steak-Ums, Lettuce, Crispy Onion and Pepper --- items I could buy if I walked 5 minutes in the opposite direction on a roll that was crispy on the outside, but soggy and greasy on inside. Not to mention, despite announcing I was a first time customer, they failed to mention their tomato surcharge until it was already made and I had paid. They declined letting me use my card, my only form of payment, so I could have tomato on my cheesesteak. That was disappointing. Overall, I don't see a reason to return here and fund the business. So, I have been going to get coffee there for over 10 years off and on. This a neighborhood staple. Best coffee hands down, however the service is horrendous!!!!!!! The staff is rude and caters to familiars while the customers that have been waiting patiently never gets attended to unless they scream or yell just to get a coffee!
