I would give it 5 stars for the ski experience if we had more snow in town and more even temps, but neither of those can be controlled! This piece of property is open land near US 36 and Table Mesa Dr. It is owned by CU though it is not contiguous to the Boulder Campus and is only used for athletic practice. There is a tennis training facility and a series of trails used by the cross country teams for their practice. The Boulder Nordic Club, a volunteer organization, has started grooming the running trails for xc skiing when there is adequate snow in town. For many years they were permitted by the city to groom North Boulder Park, but because of sprinkler and other park upgrades, they have not been able to work there for 2 years but are hoping to return. I had skied there many times in the past and really enjoyed it. As did many, many others. Now that they are using the CU land, there is much more terrain to groom and ski. But because it is rough gravel and not a grassy park, it takes much more snow to be successful. These groomers often go out to groom at 6 or 8 am if there is decent overnight snow, before heading off to their "real" jobs. I have met some of the regular skiers out there and even one of the groomers on a later run (no- I don't go very early) and they have all been friendly and helpful as I am a novice at skate skiing. It's a fun place with great views of the Flatirons, though the background noise is of US36. But thank you, Boulder Nordic Club for your hard work for the community and thanks to CU for making their land available.

We LOVE it here. Dogs everywhere. Views are immaculate. No posers allowed. Just a fun time.

Nothing fancy about this place, but it is immense! So much room!! We've crossed the country,…read morestopping at dog parks, several times and I've never seen such as large area, securely fenced and well-maintained, as this park! No separate areas for smaller dogs, but possibly not necessary since it's such a large space.

There is also a parking lot across McCaslin near Harper Lake with a pedestrian tunnel that passes under McCaslin to the dog park area. Be aware that dogs are not allowed near Harper Lake due to the fact that it is a water supply. At the dog park there is usually water for the dogs and poop bags to clean up after Fido. There is ample space for your dog to stretch it's legs and if needed separate from the pack. If you exit the no leash area on the West end you can put your dog on leash and enjoy a nice walk at Davidson Mesa. Some days my dog is up for that other days he just wants to play at the dog park. Most of the owners who frequent this dog park are good about managing their dog and picking up their dog's waste. There are a couple of dogs you will encounter that are aggressive but it is rare and people know which dogs they are. The only complaint I have are the dog owners who either don't pick up their dog's waste or bag it and leave it on the ground for the poop fairy to collect. I see some owners completely ignore their dog pooping hoping that no one noticed.. The majority of the people and their dogs are friendly and they make the dog park a good experience for owners and dogs alike. The city of Louisville does a good job of dumping waste and closing the park if it gets too muddy to use. Last but not least is the view to the West which makes this park better than most.

But when you come in the summer it will still look the same. So modern in such an old structure. So when you visit this spring there is a lot of truck traffic and digging and detours around the building but you can see from the last picture, the green and the view of the Flatirons are undisturbed.

They suggested going in a counterclockwise direction which got the elevation gain done sooner and would finish with a more gradual descent. Being a sea-level creature, I did have to catch my breath a few times on the way up. Now, at the uppermost part of the loop after a bunch of stone steps, there were some all-rock areas where hunching down with a hand or two on the rock helped with balance. Afterward we noted signs on the trail allowing horses. They must have goat like abilities for those rocky parts, I thought. If you like seeing people, there were plenty during the early afternoon hours, sometimes making passing on narrow trail sections a little tricky. We got lucky with parking, going around the large grassy area only once. On the way out, we thanked the ranger for the great recommendation, gave up our parking spot to the next lucky person and went on our way, with plenty of time for our next activity.
