For most of my time living in Boulder, this meant taking her to North Boulder Park everyday. Having just moved to the Glenwood neighborhood, I am no longer in close enough proximity to go everyday. Luckily, I discovered Howard H. Park. With plenty of open space, beautiful foliage, and a section specifically for off leash dogs, I am glad to call this my new spot. There is also a children's playground, walking/jogging trail, and creek that runs around the outside of the park. Generally, the park is pretty empty, until about 5 pm or on the weekends - when you're sure to run into plenty of people and their furry friends. My favorite part is a small hill/bump which provides a great place to lay down, as well as spectacular vantage point for launching the disk for my dog.

My dog heard kids skateboarding in the park section and decided it was a good time to leave. 3/5 stars for the dog park, 4/5 for the actual park. The park was pretty big, clean, everyone had their own space and were doing activities and being surrounded by mountains isn't too bad either.

Our hike was extra special because it was led by Maria the Park Ranger. Maria's knowledge and passion for Chautauqua was incredible to witness. You can tell these mountains mean so much to her! We learned about the landscape, wildlife, Natives, and so much more. Our hike was simple but we saw so much along the way. The views of the flatirons are hard to beat. The path was busy but it was a beautiful saturday morning and it still didn't feel overly crowded. We saw lots of doggies, runners, and families and friends meeting for a morning hike to kick off their weekend. It was pure magic. I hope I get to come back one day!!

I'm a tourist and the like and I enjoyed it! We lucked into parking on a beautiful, busy Saturday morning. They have very nice restrooms at the Ranger station, and more overflow port a potties around if needed too. The nearby trail is highly accessible and it doesn't take long for some views to pay off. It's a decently steep incline, but nothing crazy at all. Once you're into the trees the shade helps against the thin air and the sun, and it's so quiet and serene. No mosquitoes like I'm used to back home. Loved all the birds (shoutout magpies) and also seeing everyones' dogs.

The area plays host to CU cross country meets, so there's miles of dirt road to run. You can easily knock a five mile run here if you keep looping around. My pup and I live in NoCo so it's a bit of a drive for us, but I love taking her to new spots so she can explore new places and scents. I'm glad we made the trek here to check it out. We visited on a Monday around 1pm and there was plenty of parking available; It's also free to visit! There's a couple portapotties at the entrance and spots to grab some baggies if you forgot them at home. It's an open natural area so there's signs at the trailhead with warnings of rattlesnakes and coyotes so keep that in mind as you're exploring to keep an eye on your pup. We stayed for about an hour and she loved every minute of it, but it was a really windy day so we called it a day earlier than anticipated. I'm thankful we spent the afternoon exploring this beautiful area together.

The bartenders and patrons were all very friendly. We came at 6pm in June and the dog park section was nicely shaded. Such a relief after a very warm day in the front range. In the dog park there are water bowls available to keep your dog hydrated while they're playing with all of their newly made friends! I particularly loved how laid back this dog park/bar is. Will definitely be back when I'm in the area!
