    Small dog area

Great fenced in dog park with covered benches, lawn chairs, and baby pools. Both the small and large dog sections are spacious. I do wish there were more shady areas for the dogs so they could play longer on really hot days. Otherwise, it's a great park!

Great place to take your dog. Lots of space to run, play, even climb. Some shade but on the hot days there are not a lot of places to rest so look for the trees around the edges. Most of the owners are friendly and the dogs are well behaved. The only problem right now (and this is relatively new) is the new bag vendor. I am not sure what the issue is, but the new bags are not very good and are hard to open. So bring long fingernails or plan to wrap up the poop instead of bagging it. Other than that, great place and just another great thing about Boulder.

Overall, it was a refreshing late October hike on the Flatiron Loop trail! Since we were first time…read morevisitors, we asked for a trail recommendation at the ranger station that fit in with our plans, so something in the 2-hr range. They suggested going in a counterclockwise direction which got the elevation gain done sooner and would finish with a more gradual descent. Being a sea-level creature, I did have to catch my breath a few times on the way up. Now, at the uppermost part of the loop after a bunch of stone steps, there were some all-rock areas where hunching down with a hand or two on the rock helped with balance. Afterward we noted signs on the trail allowing horses. They must have goat like abilities for those rocky parts, I thought. If you like seeing people, there were plenty during the early afternoon hours, sometimes making passing on narrow trail sections a little tricky. We got lucky with parking, going around the large grassy area only once. On the way out, we thanked the ranger for the great recommendation, gave up our parking spot to the next lucky person and went on our way, with plenty of time for our next activity.

But when you come in the summer it will still look the same. A removable heated tent will be erected inside and heated by geothermal heat from underneath that will be transferred underground from the dining hall kitchen's surplus stored energy. So modern in such an old structure. So when you visit this spring there is a lot of truck traffic and digging and detours around the building but you can see from the last picture, the green and the view of the Flatirons are undisturbed.

For most of my time living in Boulder, this meant taking her to North Boulder Park everyday. Having just moved to the Glenwood neighborhood, I am no longer in close enough proximity to go everyday. Luckily, I discovered Howard H. Park. With plenty of open space, beautiful foliage, and a section specifically for off leash dogs, I am glad to call this my new spot. There is also a children's playground, walking/jogging trail, and creek that runs around the outside of the park. Generally, the park is pretty empty, until about 5 pm or on the weekends - when you're sure to run into plenty of people and their furry friends. My favorite part is a small hill/bump which provides a great place to lay down, as well as spectacular vantage point for launching the disk for my dog.

I find it a little odd that the dog park section is fenced off on 3 sides, luckily the open side leads into an apartment complex's parking where there are compost trash cans. The dogs can also get curious and wander off to other parts of the park since the area is not enclosed. If your dog is sensitive to certain sounds like mine, he gets very nervous around skateboards, this might not be the right park for you. My dog heard kids skateboarding in the park section and decided it was a good time to leave. 3/5 stars for the dog park, 4/5 for the actual park. The park was pretty big, clean, everyone had their own space and were doing activities and being surrounded by mountains isn't too bad either.
