What Ansel Adams did for California, Eben Fine did for Colorado, mainly that of Boulder. Eben took nature photographs of Boulder and used them to advertise travel and tourism to the Boulder area. Visits to this park will find you surrounded with a canopy of lush shade trees, a fast flowing river, and plenty of space for a nice picnic. Many activities can be enjoyed at this park such as biking, hiking, and a fun trip down the river as this is the starting point to the annual "Tube to Work day" festivities.

Nick and I visited Eben Fine Park, in one of our overnight stays in Boulder. Our motel was located next to this easily accessible park, and saw that it was crowded with lots of people and saw lots of houses built next to this man-made river. I saw people walking their man's best friends, playing frisbee, and riding bikes. We walked along the river and saw this local riding a TALL, blue circus type of bike that stood out to us. We both smiled so big and looked at each other with amazement! This park is a positive experience for everyone and we have a great time without having to worry about Covid-19 getting in the way of our experience.

Spectacular fall nature trail that is an easy hike and full of wild flowers, a raging mountain stream and picturesque settings that make for a perfect escape from the hustle & bustle of Metro Denver. The trails are hiker & biker friendly. Dogs on leashes are ok and rock climbing is also there for the adventurous! What a wonderful afternoon here in Colorado! Enjoy!

I do like this park. We have gone here for years. From time to time, especially early in the morning or late in the evening, there might be a few transients hanging out or "camping" illegally though I have never been accosted in any way. Not bad at all this year. The police are keeping an eye on things. That is all that keeps this from a 5 star review. But it's real life and I am going to enjoy this place as do many others, including school or camp groups. I ride the Creek Path from here, regularly. Nice shady green space, a picnic shelter, a port-a-potty etc all here. There is limited parking, maybe 16 spaces or so in the small lot, but always more up on the street before the entrance. But the reality is that many locals come by bike or on foot. It is a great place to access the Creek Path. It is officially the starting point, mile maker 0.0, as etched on the stone at the foot of the bridge over the creek at the east edge of the park near the parking lot. But you can also ride, run or walk west, up the canyon, from the west edge of the park. You pass the kayakers and then it gets steep. The path crosses the creek a couple of times and it is paved part way up, then it is gravel. It ends at the Four Mile Canyon turnoff. It is a hard ride for someone like me but I have done it a few times. The fit cyclists that abound in Boulder pass me all the time. And the runners, too. But for a nice, low key, shady place for a picnic, it is a hidden gem.

Eben G. Fine Park is, well, a pretty good park. It's on the scenic several mile long Boulder Creek Path, where the westernmost part of Boulder meets the base of the foothills. For such a small park, it has a surprising amount of amenities, including a sheltered picnic area and some limited parking. Though I'd imagine few visitors bring their cars, instead arriving there via their bicycle or running shoes. Extra star because, at least when I was there, the water fountain shot pleasingly high. So you might be careful to not be TOO close when you turn it on. Which certainly beats ones that come out in a trickle! Now, I may be easy to impress as the backdrop of the foothills, accented with a light powdering on the day I visited, looked amazing. And despite the proximity to Arapahoe Ave and Pearl Street, I wasn't distracted by traffic noise. My more jaded Coloradoan friend just called it, "Almost every winter day in Boulder". But he can do his own review. ;) 4.25 stars.

They suggested going in a counterclockwise direction which got the elevation gain done sooner and would finish with a more gradual descent. Being a sea-level creature, I did have to catch my breath a few times on the way up. Now, at the uppermost part of the loop after a bunch of stone steps, there were some all-rock areas where hunching down with a hand or two on the rock helped with balance. Afterward we noted signs on the trail allowing horses. They must have goat like abilities for those rocky parts, I thought. If you like seeing people, there were plenty during the early afternoon hours, sometimes making passing on narrow trail sections a little tricky. We got lucky with parking, going around the large grassy area only once. On the way out, we thanked the ranger for the great recommendation, gave up our parking spot to the next lucky person and went on our way, with plenty of time for our next activity.

After a long absence, I have returned to use the trail around Viele Lake as my preferred exercise location. Trying to get into a more regular walking routine, I needed to find a place that I could maintain a good pace, was not crowded and had interesting views. Nothing within walking distance of my house fits that description so I thought I should go see what is happening in this part of town. Yes, in the politics of Boulder, I do have to drive my "evil" car to this location, but traffic and parking is never an issue and I can be there in about 6 minutes. The view of the Flatirons from here is fantastic, the lake is pretty and the trees and parkland around it very pleasing. There are some playing fields behind the Rec Center that are used for practice groups from the nearby Fairview HS on many days. In the weekday mornings it is mostly a place to find seniors and parents with small kids in strollers on the paved trail. Also, an occasional school group doing a little investigating of the pond life. They have added restrooms and a picnic shelter recently near the playground. As new young families are buying up the nearby homes from retirees, there is a new sense of excitement and investment in the neighborhood and the playground is busy, though not over crowded, and has a nice mix of modern attractive equipment.

Be aware that weekends are extremely busy and not enough parking. I believe that the trail has been improved some over the years from our past memory of it. There are actually some steps cut into the steepest of the rock surfaces and some heavy duty chain handrails in the areas with he steepest drop off. We saw little kids as well as grandparents. so if I can still do it, many others can. Cooler weather would have been nice. The waterfall is quite pretty. It was roaring even in a drought because of a few heavy rains last weekend and such hot weather in this climate change era that the snow pack in the mountains is melting too quickly this summer. A must see if you are visiting this area. A many athletes do visit too.
