This is a great quick trip if you're in the Boulder Area. I've been to Colorado several times so far this year for work. It's a beautiful state but when you're working, you don't always have time to see the sights. This was one of those trips and I was going a little stir crazy. I had considered going to RMNP again but this time of year it's timed entry only. Flagstaff is one of my favorite towns so I figured the mountain would be pretty cool too. I was right. The drive up the mountain is free and mountainy. What does mountainy mean? It's steep, twisty, and locals tailgate you as you white knuckle it to the top. But damn the views are impressive. I highly recommend this quick trip. read more

Beautiful views of Boulder from the pullouts and the windy road - definitely time well spent. Unfortunately we can't hike due to injuries but the red rock blinders here are incredible to see- and the view of the flatirons across the way are unbelievable. Pike's Peak wasn't fully open so we looked for something a little closer to our airbnb & found Flagstaff. We missed being able to drive up to the summit by ONE day! Oct. 30th the road closes. However, we were still able to walk the remaining road up to the summit. It wasn't a difficult walk although there is a bit of an incline. Thankful there were toilets to use at the top! Just portapots in an inclosure- but it worked. Views were perfect! Exactly what we were hoping for. read more

Beautiful views of Boulder and the wilderness depending on which side you're facing. Definitely a great place to catch a sunset or just sit and hangout while enjoying being out in nature. If you're more of the adventurous type then they have some pretty good trails that take you out to a couple overlooks to get an even better view. The hikes I've done are more on the easy spectrum.. I'm there to just be outside and see the awesome views! I think they do have a few trails with more difficulty or at least a bit of a longer hiking distance. I haven't made my way all the way to the summit yet, but that's on my list for next time! read more

We have found during Covid that the best restaurants have suffered in terms of service and/or quality of food. This was far from the case at Flagstaff. It was our first time dining here and from start to finish it was truly outstanding. We did the prix fixe 4 course menu and every course was incredible. They complemented it with several amuse-bouche that were equally impressive. My favorites were the scallops appetizer and wellfleet oysters. The New York strip was cooked exactly as I requested. Our waitress Taylor was attentive and timed our meal perfectly. When we were hit with some rain at our outdoor table they did not miss a beat and we were served our dessert course in the lounge. The s'mores flambé was out of this world and capped a perfect evening. read more

Flagstaff mountain is a great outdoor area for several reasons: 1: It is easily accessible. All you have to do to get up to the top of this mountain is take Baseline west, and then deal with the hairpin turns. 2: It has a lot of nice little areas and nooks to go to that isn't too far from parking, which means that even though this place is fairly popular, you still can get some privacy. 3: You get amazing views all the way up 4: You get to watch hardcore mountain and road bikers struggle their way up to the top. Impressive it is, and shows you just how out of shape you are. For shame! 5: Trails trails and more trails. 6: Tons of great grilling areas, perfect for that summer picnic. One word of caution: don't go hiking up here alone at night. Mountain lions have been spotted, and have even attacked the occasional backpacker, so be careful out there! read more

Sunrise Amphitheater is located 15 minutes west from Boulder along the beautiful Flagstaff Mountain Road. Couples looking for a casual mountain setting as the spot for their ceremony will appreciate the unique stone bench seating and sprawling views of Boulder below. The Amphitheater's location makes for a great compliment to reception sites down in Boulder. The St. Julien Hotel, Flagstaff House, Hotel Boulderado and Rembrandt Yard Gallery are just a few of the popular venues in Boulder for a wedding reception. Parking for the amphitheater can be limiting so carpooling of hiring a shuttle for guests is recommended. Also, parking passes are required for the area so most couples buy passes in advance and have them handed out to guests as they arrive. Lighting at the amphitheater is best in the afternoon. Since it faces east, afternoon sunlight is at the guests back while lighting the couple as the stand on the altar. There are great opportunities for wedding party portraits around the amphitheater. The trail just below the ceremony site offers great views. In an evening in January, waiting for sunset was a little windy and chilly. But it was well worth it. You can see the snow peaks of the Rocky's, the city and lakes down below. Head west on Baseline and you'll soon be going up the hairpin turns of Flagstaff Mountain. (Make sure any flatlanders you take with you aren't prone to car sickness or wetting their pants.) Amazing panoramic views of Boulder greet you at every turn and watching the moon rise from the top of Flagstaff is simply amazing. From the top, you can also take a short hike back to artist's point to view the continental divide. This is a favorite place to go for a hike or a summer evening cook-out. The park has permanent grills and picnic tables, you just provide the coals, food and libations. (I don't think you can bring glass though, and there is a ranger station nearby so better behave.) For larger events you can rent a picnic shelter. There's also an outdoor amphitheatre where you can get hitched or come to a morning worship service over the summer. read more

Flagstaff is kind of the tourist mountain in Boulder in that it's the most accessible. It's the only one on which you can drive to the summit. But despite being a tourist trap, it's a great mountain. Some of the city's finest hikes intersect with Flagstaff, from Gregory Canyon and Saddle Rock to Green Mountain. Of course, the way the trails intersect you can incorporate Flagstaff with a day's worth of great backpacking in a create-your-own-hike fashion. It's also a very social mountain. I've had romantic encounters up here, watched numerous sunsets from Artist's Point, watched more than a few sunrises from Panorama Point, and attended a wedding ceremony at the amphitheater. Great times. Great place. Also, it's got a cool history. It was very nearly the home for an amusement park at one point in time. read more

I take visitors to the first lookout on the right at night for a beautiful view of the city light! It's a quick way to get your guests in the mountains when time is limited. It also demonstrates how close we live to the start of the Rocky Mountains! It's also common for couples at night. read more

Food was tasty except for the risotto that was chalky (by had good flavor). The portions are super tiny. My wife and I joked about where we should go for dinner afterwards. But seriously you should plan to get a meal after getting fucked by this over priced dinner. Good food, but each course is a single bite. Good quality (mostly), but totally not a real meal. Absolutely gorgeous views of white capped mountains to the west and Boulder and endless plains to the east.

There is a beautiful Sunrise Amphitheater located on top, where my boyfriend and I saw the view of such a gorgeous scenery in Boulder! We saw CU BOULDER, my lover told me himself that no other building can outsize the college's height. Why? Because of some weird, policy or law. Don't know where to get the credit to back this fact up, but still thought that was crazy. I thought that was ridiculous. We didn't plan to make our pit stop here, but mostly we were cruising through Chataqua Park. In my previous review, I stated Chataqua is massive, so there's various parks located within this park. There is a front facing parking line, with mostly handicapped, and a trash bin with recycling bin located in front. Luckily, no one was seen at 9:00 in the evening, so that parking line was empty. There, you walk, you see the circle shaped amphitheater. I could see now why it is called "Sunrise," because it's literally shaped like a sunrise!! This small space is not lengthy, but I could see why people would host very small weddings. It is mostly steep steps, a small venue area not a lot of space, but quite "nature-wonder-like." I think it's simpe, it's perfect for a free date. I keep emphasizing that the best things in life are for free. Cliche, but true. Well if you're ever in need of a restroom, there is one located a few drives down. Like i said, there is no sink, or mirror or anything clean. Just toilet paper. So bring some of your own tools. read more

Beautiful views of Boulder! We took my family up there to see CU from up high. You get a good view of the red buildings and roofs from the first tiny overlook, it's very small so don't miss it! The next overlook has lots more views and rocks to climb. We saw a proposal while there, their photos are probably amazing! Definitely worth the drive or hike up! read more

My favorite hike on Flagstaff Mountain is Boy Scout trail, it's a simple easy/moderate hike around 0.8 miles, it begins and ends at the Sunrise Amphitheater parking lot area, and on this relatively simple hike there are some really nice views Boulder Canyon . The trail also leads to May's Point for an excellent view of the Indian Peaks, I took my Christmas pics last year on an observation point here and its a stunning view. Bring your own water, I'm not sure there are any water stations. Also, dogs are not allowed on boy scout trail but are allowed on other trails. They must be leashed and I've seen warnings about wildlife, bears and mountain lions and the lot.. So it's safer to just leash them up so they don't get lost/ or attacked. Lots of people propose here and get married here, the amphitheater is neat... and the sunrise/ sunset views are amazing- a bucket list item for sure if you are coming in from out of town :) It's a great place to stop and take in the loveliness of the Rockies :) read more
