It's interesting that CU made a claim for this place when it could have been another 7-Eleven. Turns out that the layout of the store is very much like 7-Eleven but in a smaller space.
As I walked thru the store deciding what to buy, I noticed similarities with 7-Eleven and CU. I spent about 15 minutes walking around the area and finding out that I just wanted something to cold to drink. And that was it. It's nice to have a convenience store here in the Kahala area. While there's a 7-Eleven store in Kaimuki, you can shop here if you need to grab something here while you're hanging at Kahala Mall or just passing thru. I just happened to be going home and found this place. They had a flag ship store in downtown Honolulu and expanded here to Kahala. Nice to have this outlet here when you need that convenience store vibe in Kahala. The store staff is nice and friendly. The store itself was clean and was stocked. The vibe felt like a 7-Eleven store but smaller due to the existing building space dimensions. For the most part though, the experience here at this CU location was good and satisfying. While you could get drinks that's cheaper at McDonald's next door, it's nice to support local businesses here and they have an assortment of bottle drinks besides the usual fare. And they also have stuff you can find at Longs Drugs too, but at a competitive pricing. You'll be happy to have this on your way thru Kahala if you're here wandering around or just passing though.
While it can be a bit more expensive, CU's signature brand comes from the specialty ramen stuff that they stock. You can make your own ramen here from the various brands. You can make it in the store and eat it right away after purchasing. Thought that was very convenient for those who love very instant noodles and don't want to wait until they got home. The overall experience here at this CU convenience store in the Kahala district is quite nice and I hope to get back sometime. I would like to return here and check out their ramen stuff just to see if I can handle their spicy ramen that's imported from Japan. For now though, I only purchased a couple of items on my maiden trip to this store on a nice September evening. It was cool that they are open at night. Not sure if they are 24 hours like 7-Eleven is but the location is good for me since I'm nearby Kahala all the time when I'm not anywhere else. They do have limited hot food items, but the star of the show is the aforementioned ramen. And so, while my time here at CU Kahala was brief, I'm sure I'll be back soon since the love of ramen with me is strong. Definitely worth coming back here when ramen is king. Best bet is to come here when you can to grab your favorite ramen and drinks.
CU Kahala is located conveniently adjacent to Kahala Mall at Kahala Korner. It's physical address is 4614 Kīlauea Avenue, next to the United States Post Office around the corner and McDonald's Kahala. They accept major credit cards as well as cash. As far as parking goes, there's very limited parking at the Kahala Korner, which probably boasts around 15 parking spots. Best bet would be to park at Kahala Mall or at the US Post Office (when it's not busy) and walk on over. As far as public transportation goes, routes 1, 1L, 2, 7, and 14 comes by Kahala Mall, but there's a bus stop literally fronting CU that services routes 2, 7, 23, and 14. Choose the right one that works for your schedule and pace. And so, CU is a newer player to the retail space and hope they'll stick around in the Honolulu area. While they are next to Kahala Mall, they have a good and unique branding but also have the everyday experience and items that will draw you into this place for you any day you decide to come here to pick up your essential stuff. Consider coming to this place for your ramen source and you'll be plenty happy. I'm sure I will be when I will return again soon. Gonna try out the spicy ones first.
5.0 stars for the overall experience.
