Thai Corner Restaurant - Curry Fried Rice ($21 with choice of protein) - tastes good with chicken!

=== 1. VERDICT/VALUE 4.5 stars: great food and good service…read morein a decent environment garners one of the top votes for Thai food when in the area! === 2. FOOD Chicken Satay ($16) 4 skewers at this price makes this dish a little speedy, but it's good: meaty pieces on skewers with authentic peanut sauce - yum! Pad Thai Prawn ($22) You get five jumbo shrimp on top of the pad Thai noodles. The flavour is a little different (and a touch more liquid-y?) than most other places - but it's tasty nonetheless! Curry Fried Rice ($21) Imagine a good-tasting fried rice with your choice of protein (we chose chicken) and curry powder to flavour: it's simple yet really tasty! Sweet Stickey Rice with Mango ($12) It's spendy for what you get - but it does included at least half a fresh-cut mango with sticky rice and coconut milk - an indulgent treat! === 3. SERVICE It was simple and good - nothing spectacular but also nothing to worry about either from the two ladies that served us throughout the meal. === 4. ENVIRONMENT The decor seems 10-15 years old but it's clean and bright enough - at least with daylight (it might be a little dim when dark out). A large TV on one wall shows a video of a Western traveller visiting Thailand to sample foods. There is a lunch buffet ($21 for adults or $14 for kids) - offering 8-10 dishes in the centre of the restaurant. Groups large and small would fit easily, as would wheelchairs and baby strollers. Parking is reasonably plentiful on the street out front.

Nice Thai food at good prices. Excellent lunch buffet. All dishes seem slightly sweet.read more

we wanted noodle after our cruise trip and decided to come here after lots of walking…read more *the braised pork noodle was good flavor. *wonton rice noodle was bland. *popcorn chicken was good. wifi here so that was nice to be able to map out the area. (and also so we can call people to meet). the bathroom needed some cleaning though.

I was familiar with Cantonese and Szechuan styles of Chinese food, but I'd never heard of Guangxi…read more I'm definitely a convert and need to seek it out! They are known for rice noodles. Unlike Vietnamese bun which is thin like vermicelli, these were quite a bit thicker, almost like a round fettuccine. As appetizers, we had the duck egg rolls. We managed to eat them before taking a picture.... they were finally ground duck in egg roll wrappers. We also had the sliced pork belly with garlic sauce. I remembered to take a picture before it was completely gone! It was one of the most amazing things I've had. It's cooked and thinly sliced pork served cold, with crisp and refreshing julienne carrots and cucumber. It's served with a thin dressing that includes fresh garlic. The whole thing is cool, sharp, refreshing, and satisfying. Finally, I had the noodles. I borrowed somebody else's picture, because I forgot to take it before I dumped the toppings in. It comes with two or three different kinds of pickles, toasted soybeans, and green onions. The idea is to stir those into the noodles and eat them first, like a cool noodle salad. Then... you dump the broth on top and enjoy them like a Ramen or a noodle soup. It was absolutely amazing. As a Texan, I'm no stranger to spicy food, but somehow the spicy broth caught me at the back of my throat rather than just the tongue. You should definitely give this place a try! It felt authentic.. most of the customers in there appeared to be Asian, which is usually a good sign.

Solid pho location at downtown Victoria. We were dining with locals and it was their first time…read moretrying Pho Tru and they said that the pho was much better than the pho places they have tried in the area. Better than Pho Boi nearby. Broth is deep, delicious and not too sweet or salty. Small area inside with a few tables. Walk up to the counter to order and pay first. Then wait at a table for your food to arrive. You can grab water at a water station at the corner (cold water). Service was polite & efficient and they got us everything we needed. Table centerpieces were not fully refilled so we had to grab some napkins/chili, etc from another nearby table. Did not taste the rice dishes, but the family enjoyed the pho that they had, even my mom's vegetarian pho. Pho broth is delicious and approved!

Review Template ===…read more1. VERDICT/VALUE Sure, there are a lot of choices for decent Vietnamese food in town - but with good eats, good service, decent prices, it's easy to recommend Pho Tru to family and friends! === 2. FOOD Summer Rolls ($10) Two come at this price and they're done well. We may debate about the peanut sauce (I prefer the lighter-coloured, less bitter one) but this is a good snack or happy all-year round. Fish Tacos ($8) They were out of fish today but we got it with the recommended grilled pork instead - and that was a great decision! The pork was not too thin yet tender and flavourful. It works out to be $4 per taco but the good meat with crisp fresh veggies make the price of admission worth it. Pho #19 ($17) It's basically a house special: all of the meats - and with flavourful soup and a healthy portion of noodles, it's a great choice! Pork Vermicelli ($16.25) A great option for those that don't want any soup splashing around: good portion of fresh veggies mixed with noodles and pork that's thicker than what was included in the tacos, but still tender and flavourful. === 3. SERVICE The service is stellar: the same man who greets you, takes your order, serves your order and ensures all is well before the cheery greeting upon departure is the one making the experience worth the trip! It's relatively busy with dine-in patrons and food app/takeout orders, but the speed of service to the counter did not disappoint. === 4. ENVIRONMENT It's a little older looking, but it's simple, clean, and effective. Windows on the street side let in a good amount of daylight for tables of up to 8 when all of the two- and four-tops are combined. Once you get past the front door (not automatic/mechanically openable), wheelchairs and baby strollers should fit with some ease. Parking is all street based, which is paid up until 8:00 pm each night.
