Dr. Chew is great. She is friendly and is a very positive person. I don't have vision covered in my ridiculous Kaiser "health insurance plan" so I pay cash/credit card to get my eye exams done here. Fortunately Dr. Chew's office visits are affordable enough for me to ensure I get my yearly check up. If you haven't gotten one of those special whole eyeball scans, it's worth it to do it every once in a while as an optometrist can catch some major health issues with it. I've read online how some people have had the special scan done and then they were told to immediately go to the ER/ED by their optometrist because the scan has caught some emergent issues like potential strokes, other heart issues, etc. and even diabetes. According to WebMD "Retinal imaging takes a digital picture of the back of your eye. It shows the retina (where light and images hit), the optic disc (a spot on the retina that holds the optic nerve, which sends information to the brain), and blood vessels." I encourage everyone to please get a primary care physician AND go to the eye doctor and dentist (and maybe a therapist) for your health and mental health if possible. read more

Saying "Yes?" and looking down and up is not how we greet over here. When i mention my name she suddenly "turned fake nice". The eye doctor was great and friendly and welcoming and the lady that handed the clipper to me was nice too. Not worth coming back. read more

My family and I have been coming here for many years and Dr. Theresa is very accommodating. She explains everything very well during exams and the desk staff is helpful with picking out frames and explaining the costs of whatever needs to be covered. read more

Simple and efficient from the first phone call. Know what you are looking for and be direct.

Brought frames to have new lenses put in. They called to let me know they broke my frames. Rather than trying to get the same frame, they offered a cheap replacement. When I explained to the front desk receptionist this wasn't acceptable, she offered a refund for the lenses and lied about my current frames being discontinued. My frames weren't discontinued, they cost more than what the office wanted to pay. Don't waste your time with this business. Their products are extremely outdated and they obviously give no fucks about their customers belongings read more

This place is amazing. So I had mixed up my appointment dates and came on the wrong day for my eye exam. My bad. I was told by the staff that they were completely booked, but instead of turning me away, they squeezed me in to see Dr. Chew between patients time slots. Dr. Chew was very nice, meticulous and took her time to explain everything. She took her time to make sure my eyes were healthy and that I had most accurate prescription. In addition, she provided alternative brand contact lens for me to try. The admin and staff were also so professional and beyond nice. My family had been doing grocery shopping while Dr. Chew was checking my eyes. Because of COVID, the store could only allow limited capacity, so they couldn't come in. However, the staff allowed my family to leave their purchased groceries in the office, while they continue to tour around the area until I was done with my exam. The staff then proceeded to put all of the food in large tote bags, no charge, to keep everything organized and easier to carry when we left. Didn't ask or expect it, but I was pleasantly and blown away. Crystal Clear Vision Center, from top to bottom, clearly knows how to treat customers and provide high quality service. They are a model business that everyone should follow. read more

I have been here twice and they are really good to accommodate any last minute schedule. Is a small optometrist and the doctor is experience with great advice. Price is excellent on the eye exam For glasses or contact. Frame is not a lot of choices but price I definitely great with or without insurance. Eye exam without any insurance cost only $35 for glass prescription, This is definitely a great price for no insurance exam. read more

I came here initially because it was the only eye place open on a Sunday that takes my VSP insurance and though I could take off from work or work from home during the week to go get my eyes checked in an eye exam, I wanted to get it done on a Sunday. I was not disappointed! I love the location on the outskirts of Chinatown, but you come here for the friendly, helpful, warm, welcoming service! Loved the people at the front desk as well as Dr. Chew. I didn't have an appointment for a Sunday and didn't wait long, and anyways I spent the little time I had waiting checking out frames! I had to fill out some forms for this particular eye place but they just pulled up my VSP profile and told me my benefits and what was covered and what was co-pay! The eye exam was quick and harmless and Dr. Chew was so great about making me feel relaxed even when my eyes got slightly uncomfortable. I haven't had my eyes checked in a longggg time--they've just gotten worse over time so I can no longer read things like menus or street signs from far away--so I was a little confused throughout the whole process but everything went smoothly! There are so many frames to choose from, I loved trying them all on and sending pictures to friends to help me decide. The woman at the front desk was also helpful and chimed in "yes" or "no." I'll definitely be back and will be telling friends to come here! read more

Awesome service! I have been coming here for years. I highly recommend them if you need eye exams and glasses.

I've been coming here for Dr Chew for a couple of years for contact lenses, specifically circle lenses. They run very efficiently, and since they open every day they don't get too busy even on the weekend afternoons. I ordered Eyedia ClearColors a couple of times, and they now carry Acuvue Defines, too. Make an appointment ahead of time to avoid wait times. You can also call them over the phone to get price estimates. read more

I've been coming here since I was in middle school and the service here has always been so good. This optometry business is essentially located on Vallejo Street in Chinatown, and the store is quite small. My optometrist, or everyone's optometrist here, is Dr. Theresa Chew and she has always been one of the nicest/accommodating eye doctor you would ever meet. I remember being super nervous a long while ago, but she had such a calm and patient demeanor that it made me feel less scared about getting my eye examined. If you don't have insurance, then the exam will be $35 which is pretty cheap. Also, when it comes to appointments and walk-ins, if you ever come in to the front desk people without calling them (cause they're super busy), they always have some extra slot throughout the day and they'll tell you when would be the most convenient for you to go in for an exam. I would come back all the time because they're so helpful and the prices here are VERY reasonable. read more

Dr Theresa Chew is the best. Dr Chew was very nice, good at her job, and took her time to explain things to me and answer my questions. I had an eye exam and got the contact lenses I was looking for. The front desk receptionist are all very sweet and understanding. I have been a patient at this location for 2+ years and always enjoy coming back for my annual examinations. Shady and deceptive business practices. They are dead set on trying to con money out of you at each step. Avoid at all cost. My husband and I went in to have our annual vision exam and to get new prescription lenses. The clerk pushed really hard to add an additional out-of-pocket anti-reflective coating with blue-light protection. We refused the blue-light option because we thought it was not necessary. We both felt being pressured since the clerk wouldn't take NO for an answer and kept pressing us multiple times. We were able to finally escape the annoyance after 10 minutes of back and forth. I was concerned that they might try other tricks after their failed attempts on the up sell, I called to verify our orders a couple of days later. Indeed, contrary to any other optometry businesses we worked with in the past 10+ years who clearly present our insurance options , they did not include the insurance covered anti-reflective coating. When I requested that they add the covered anti-reflective coating, they told me that I must pay out-of-pocket because the lenses were already made. They did not feel any remorse that they cheated us, and they had the audacity to try to yet again ask us to pay for their deceptive means. Our lenses now show a lot of glare under any light. Our eyes couldn't get use to this since we have always had the basic coating for more than a decade. It's clearly one-and-done for us. But we'd like to help others stay away from disappointment and frustration. read more

Been going to Crystal Clear Vision Center ever since I started wearing glasses in the 3rd grade. I love Dr. Chew, she's professional and I feel like she cares about my eye health. Not to mention, I can just walk in and get seen without an appointment which is a plus! read more

They don't carry Coopervision, which I have worn comfortably for two years. After I paid $100 for an exam (where I was strong armed into an extra imaging exam I didn't necessarily need -- $60), I tried to use my prescription to order Coopervision lenses online. When the online provider called Crystal Clear to confirm my order, they actually asked Crystal Clear to delete my order online and I now have to (1) use a brand of contact lens that left my eyes very dry or (2) pay out of pocket to visit another doctor who carries Cooper Vision, as my insurer doesn't cover another visit. Beware! You will be limited to Oasys/Alcon Ciba, and they will not let you order any other brand. read more

Lost my contact lens and was unable to drive home. Needed to get the same day eye exam and contact lens fitting on a Sunday to be able to drive back home. They were able to accommodate my needs, the staff was super nice and the doctor super professional and kind. One or my best eye exam experiences. I also requested interpupillary distance (IPD) to be added to my glass prescription so that I can buy glasses online and they did that without any resistance. I walked out with fresh contacts in my eyes and three contact lens prescriptions and one prescription for glasses 30 minutes later. Perfect and smooth experience. read more

i've been coming to this place since i was a little kid! this place has not change a bit, the doctors are super friendly. I've went through paying $5 for a pair of glasses because of my insurance and $10 for eye exam to paying $82 for eye exam. the front desk staff is a total different story. if you catch them at a good mood they'll bend over backwards for you. but if they're in a bad mood, they will clearly show you their attitude! overall, this place is good =) read more

I haven't been to the optometrist for 2 YEARS! i HAD to go back because my vision was going bad... Well let me share with you my experience there. The receptionists were ill-mannered.. NOT rude, they jsut don't have proper customer service manners. Their demeanors were unwelcoming. However, Doctor Chew was cool! She answer my pestering questions calmly and nicely.. I would and HAVE to go back because of her. This is also the first time in my life I have to get prescription glasses!! I was suppose to chose a fram from there but they are limited.. So i wouldn't suggest going there if you need frames... stylish ones at least. Overall my experience there wasn't the best, but in terms of services from the optometrist herself.. it's wayyyyyyyyy better than the customer help.. read more

This isn't your grandma's optometrist where you have the choice of Napoleon Dynamite's glasses in either metal or plastic frames. At Crystal Clear Vision Center, you can get the fashionable designer frames AND the prescription lenses for the same price as the frame itself at other places. Dr. Theresa Chew, OD is great. She's nice, patient, and knowledgeable. There is one grumpy receptionist (I think the older of the two or three Asian ladies), but the young fellow who who works the desk at times is very friendly and helpful. read more

I have been coming here for over 10 years and I love this place. I don't have insurance, therefore they would give me a small discount. Eye exams are only $50, and that is quite cheap! Eye exams are also very thorough and detailed. All my questions were asked, and everything was explained to me as well. Service in the front is good, and I had no problems at all. I usually just walk in without making an appointment, and never had any trouble. read more

I've been coming to Crystal Clear ever since I've first needed glasses at the tender age of 12. Throughout the years I've gone through cycles of having insurance, then losing insurance, then having it again and the cost has remained about the same give or take $50.00. I genuinely believe that Crystal Clear really tries to make it affordable without insurance because I've always paid about $50.00-$60.00 for a eye exam and got the cheapo (but still fashionable) frames starting at $75.00. I have VSP now, and the out-of-pocket cost for an comprehensive eye exam (including prescription for eyeglasses and contacts) + $130 frame came out to $91 dollars! So relatively speaking, it's about the same only you get to choose from a higher range of frames. I've rotated between Dr. Chew and 2 other OD's working at her practice and the quality between them all are excellent. Sure the front desk reception ladies can be brutes sometimes, but overall it's not horrible. read more

I called a few days ago to have an eye exam for contact lenses. My contacts lens dr. ponch (from contact lens expo) recommended dr. Teresa chew to me. I go there today for an early eye exam at 9:30 & I can't express enough that I received the greatest service I've even received from an optometry place. The front desk staff was very helpful with all my questions & dr. Teresa herself was very helpful as well. I paid a low price for contact lens & glasses prescription & I'm fully satisfied with it all! I highly recommend this place if you're looking for great service & great staff. read more

Last years contact script from Washington ran out. My contacts ran out too. Oh, no what to do? Call 20 places in the East Bay and be told apparently no one could see me until the end of October. Whhhhhaaaaaaaaat? Stuff like that never happens in NY. What to do? Scour the internet for next day options without terrible reviews. This lead me to ZocDoc. ZocDoc for Theresa Chew, lead me to here. Dr. Chew was out but, another Dr, Dr.Carl Kwong was in. And he could not have been more pleasant to work with. I was a little scared in the beginning because I booked an appointment online and during the confirmation call, the receptionist said they'd take my VSP insurance but, there would still be a fitting fee. I've run into this phenomenon before, and found new places to go to. But, due to my being in a time crunch, I felt, "Well, whatever, at least it will get done". I was pretty sure VSP prohibits this on the basis of no co-pay. But, Iet it slide anyway because timing. Pleasantly and thankfully upon arrival the receptionist said according to VSP there would be *no* co-pay. Yay! The exam would be covered and I had insurance allowance for contacts vs. glasses. Which for me worked out to be a one year supply. Woo-hoo! They had to order them, so there may be more followup on the process but, for the time being, everything has gone A-OK. The exam was quick and Dr.Kwong was compassionate of my inability to tell if indeed there was any difference between 1 & 2. Not much more awesomeness you can ask for in an optometrist! So: -Next day appointment -Very kind optometrist -Fully covered -Win! Edit: Picked up my contacts today NP about a week after appointment. Def faster than having them shipped from the internet. Thanks so much!!!! read more

Dr. Chew is the best! She's always friendly, and I trust her with my eyes entirely. I've been going to her since I was a kid. Going to the eye doctor can be terrifying but she makes sure you're comfortable throughout the whole appointment and also leave with the correct prescription. The staff is also super nice and efficient. Making appointments was never a hassle. I remember the first time I got contacts here, I was trying to put on/take out my contacts for about 3-4 hours. (The thought of having to poke my eyeball intentionally was terrifying to me.) But the guy that was talking me through it was super patient with me. He made sure I was comfortable enough with it before I leave so I can take it out myself when I get home. read more

I scheduled an appointment with Theresa Chew at Crystal Clear Vision Center with Zocdoc for 10am. The receptionist staff called in the morning to reschedule my appointment, explaining that there were two people scheduled ahead of me. We settled on a slightly later time of 10:45. I showed up at 10:15ish and was able to do one of the screening tests shortly after checking in. I waited about an hour before getting seen by Theresa. Theresa was very attentive and insisted that I try out a number of different contacts until I got the correct fit and vision. She was very detail-oriented and wouldn't let me leave until I was satisfied with my vision. read more

If you're nearby, check this place out. Excellent customer service!! I work nearby and needed my glasses adjusted, they were crooked. I walked in during my lunch time and was immediately greeted and helped. The staff helping me explained their policies and got to work. A few minutes later my glasses were finished, at no charge! He even took time out to explain to me what was wrong with the glasses, what he had done, and how to avoid this issue in the future. He also cleaned my glasses - all for free! I asked if I could pay something and he said no. This is a lovely example of an excellent local business. Everyone give them your business! read more

I have returned to this optician twice since my 1st visit (reviewed 2015, 2 stars). Their service and helpfulness has made me upgrade my review to 4.5 stars. 2nd visit was 3 months ago with my mom, I needed higher-bridge frames for her w/o the TC Charton cost. They were really nice and helpful in picking out the frames. 3rd visit (last and this week, optician svcs only) I was hoping to get the cheap frames to fit low-nose-bridge for my face. They special ordered 3 prs. of frames for me, I tried them out but they didn't work out as I hoped. (Pupils too high to nose bridge; nose bridge too low even for short frames; eyes too close to lenses; I knew I was high-maintenance but sheesh!) I ended up trying some TC Charton frames and found one that worked. They took the time to evaluate the frames to my face and my current pair of glasses. So with that, I purchased a new pair of glasses from them. Charlotte and the other lady at the front counter are especially helpful especially in answering my 10,000 questions. Tip: go before lunchtime, otherwise the small store fills up fast with people waiting for the same level of service and attention. read more

It was a great experience getting eye exam here. The receptionist is pretty nice (must have caught them in a good mood). I was registered quickly to see Dr. Chew. She's very nice and efficient with the process of the exam. They have a lot of titanium frames which I like for they are light weigh. There are also a huge selections of in-style plastic frames. I have picked titanium frames. I also picked polycarbonate lenses with transition (lenses that are very light and changes color to protect my eyes from the sun.) These lenses were still pretty durable too. Unfortunately, I accidentally broke my frames after few days I received it. Then I went back to try to have it fixed. When they can't fix it, they actually gave me a new pair of the same frames at no extra cost! This is crazy! I love this place! read more

What a great business! I have not had an eye exam for over 30 years so I was terribly nervous about going. I saw Dr. Theresa Chew last Sunday--imagine that, on Sunday. I work 6 days a week so being able to go on Sunday was very accommodating. Dr. Chew's approach is so friendly and calming that she quickly put my mind at ease. I purchased my first real pair of reading glasses out of a large selection and with the exam, the entire cost was about half of what I expected. Also, despite the local parades and busy shopping day, parking is a breeze. Everyone in the office was friendly and efficient. I highly recommend Dr. Chew, particularly for anyone that is nervous about the unknown, like I was. Great place to bring kids for the same reason. read more
