Prices are reasonable, and there are many options under €15. We stopped in for dinner the first night we were in Amsterdam, and then again a few days later. The dishes I had were chicken dishes with various sides (rice, salad, vegetables). Crystal is also open late until 3am/4am, and there is plenty of seating. From the street it looks quite small, but there is quite a bit of space towards the back and there is also a top floor. Their food was amazing!!!!!!! Given with so many choices of eateries in Amsterdam at 11pm on a Thursday night, which made it hard to decide what we wanted to eat as our first meal in Amsterdam, we decided to walk into this place because it smelled good and the photos looked good. We sat down and later found out it got a pretty good rating on Yelp! Although it looked like you order at the counter, there's actually waiting service in the restaurant so we were seated and offered a menu. We got the mixed plate to share between the 2 of us which included kebab, salad and rice for 18€. It's one of the best middle eastern meals we've had! Everything was perfectly seasoned and the meat were perfectly cooked with tenderness and flavor. Because they used halal meat, the quality was also significantly better. To make it even better, their chunky tomato sauce, spicy sauce and white creamy sauce complemented the dish very well. Service was efficient but nothing friendly in particular, but the food was so good for a decent price. It's 5 stars for sure! read more

1 word drew my attention to this restaurant - KAPSALON. Service: Quite lacking! I waited 5 minutes to get a table even though the place was empty. Didn't get a menu, had to ask to place order, but food srrived pretty quick. Ordered a drink, but later was frowned upon for asking for tap water. Other restaurants in Holland were not as unfriendly considering that I ordered at least 1 drink. Food: Holey moley, delicious! Kapsalon is shawarma meat (chose lamb, but can get chicken) dressed salad, melted cheese, spicy red sauce, and ranch on top of Belgian fries. Taste is reminiscent of a New York halal truck - except the meat/salad/sauce combo goes on top of fries instead of rice/salad. Can't really go wrong with the combo. Bottom Line: 4 star food, 2 star service. Would return to order to-go. If you aren't counting calories, try the kapsalon with lamb. read more

Crystal is a great little spot to get some local and meditteranean snacks. The place itself is really nice and so is the staff. It seems like everything is done with finesse. I ordered a simple Shoarma Pita but what really made it special was the condiments it comes with. They give you a giant serving of 3 really tasty homemade toppings that really allows you to be creative. You should really stop in and try it out. read more

Small pita (broodje) shoarma €5, large €6.5 (large is for man) + point: Lamb meat, tastes good, on salad bar theres coriander sauce and onion thingy (I dunno what its called), but they are very good, the place is clean and lots of seat - point: some of the staff are not friendly (maybe its not that they are not friendly but their english is not good enough), free salad bar ads on the window is misleading, its only free for falafel (and only to be put inside the bread), if you other anything else it would be €2.5 for 1 small plate. read more

Oh Crystal. This place literally made me dream about becoming a travel food writer with a niche in falafel. I'm not kidding. I wanted everyone to share the joy I felt when eating a supple pita stuffed with everyone's favorite fried balls and (emphasis) mounds of the many delicacies found in their salad bar at 4am. There are many places to go in Amsterdam for falafel, including Maoz- right. next. door. But do yourself a favor and come here. Very unfortunate experience. Rude service and lack luster food with skimpy trimmings. I ordered a kabab in a pita. After it was delivered to me for take out, I proceeded to the self service bar to add some sauce, tomato and onion to the sandwich, as is typical. I added the sauce the proceeded to add onions. We had our first meal in Amsterdam here at the Crystal restaurant and had a bad experience. We ordered "Falafel en Hummus" and "kipschnitzel" (a fried chicken dish). While the falafel was palatable, the fried chicken dish was absolutely terrible with no flavor whatsoever. We were also ripped off 5 Euros for water. Don't let the "steakhouse and pizza" sign out front fool you - the cuisine is basically all Middle Eastern. This place is just two doors away from the better-known Maoz falafel shop. Now, the Maoz falafel is indeed a great sandwich, but I hate eating standing up and they have such scarce and uncomfortable seating. Crystal has very good seating, good falafel, and even lower prices. Another thing I like about Crystal is that they give you a plate and fork along with your sandwich, so you can load up the plate with the side salad to go into your sandwich rather than having to stuff everything in there at once. So, you can start with a top layer of shredded lettuce, onion chutney, hot sauce, and so forth, then add another layer after consuming the top. For EU 4.50, one of these falafel sandwiches plus sides is way plenty for lunch. read more

My firast and last advise about this restaurant DONT come!! Their behaviour and Customer services is the worst I have ever seen! Their price is too expensive!! We order a main dish for 3 and paid almost 80!! And then they force us to pay more for the water and my order was tap water!! Based on the reviews and recommendations I went to try it. They'll bring you three bowl of different sauces which is nice, as you can choose and mix as you wish. The meat was fresh and well-cooked, BUT at the end they had added a strange sweet sauce to the grilled meat which had made the taste very weird. The place was fairly clean. Crystal is in a great location. Nice food but what can I say about the staff. Here's what happened: we went in, looking at the menu. At first one of the staff (Egyptian guy) was being very nice, telling us to take our time. That's where it ended. After we decided to sit down and eat at the restaurant and ordered our food we asked for pita bread during the food. It took so long, we kept reminding him but he ignored us. Then when we were almost done, he bought the bread. When we said it's too late he said he will take it back then. How rude, not even apologising for the delay! I don't understand the good reviews? This place is terrible!! I am a fan of schwarma (I know spelled slightly differently everywhere) and have eaten it frequently all over the world, including other places in Amsterdam, all of which were better than here. Top off their lousy, greasy, nearly flavorless schwarma with an "included salad bar" from which only certain things were allowed with my sandwich? When I tried to put pickles and tahini in my sandwich it caused a ruckus that had to be settled by the manager who ultimately explained that pickles were only allowed for falafel, so not for Schwarma, after considerable conversation an exception was made... This place is awful, try any other, there were two around the corner which unfortunately were closed this afternoon. read more
