Baklava - among the best baklava I've ever had!
    Mike W.

Came here 2x. Once for dinner and once for late night drink. They have a very wide range of Mediterranean tapas to choose from! We love Turkish, Greek, Italian and Spanish food so this was excellent for us and it did not disappoint. The food we had was tremendous and we ordered baklava to end the meal and it was wonderful. We've had so much baklava from Turkey to California and I believe this may have been the best I've had. I almost ordered another plate of it! Our service on both nights was excellent and I would highly recommend this place to anyone travelling near!!

Liked the tapas style. We were a group of 5 and it gave everyone a chance to taste. We did order more of the favorites. The olives were delicious. Everyone loved the steak because it was rare. The hummus was plentiful enough that we ordered two servings of pita. The beef and chicken stews were a big hit. I loved the mushrooms and the eggplant. The eggplant was super delicious. No room for deseert!

Our last evening in Amsterdam and we were searching for a memorable meal. A local recommended us to walk to Overtoom and we came across Oresti's. It was quiet and not really busy when we arrived and we were seated immediately. They served standard full entree meals and tapas. I'm not sure of I would classify this restaurant as Spanish, Greek or Dutch--it was a combination. We were really hungry, so their tapas menu was very appealing to us. Our waiter, Matthias was helpful with recommendations, extremely friendly and attentive, checking on us regularly. Every dish he recommended ordered was delicious and he helped us order enough that we did not feel hungry after we left. He recommended the stewed chicken (kippannetji), lamb chops, chorizo sausage, prawns (gambas), as well as the dessert. Our favorite dish was the stewed chicken with the melted cheese gratin. Our least favorite was the chorizo sausage--it was nothing special, but it was still good. It was a great last memorable meal in Amsterdam and I would definitely recommend this place.

Absolutely delicious!! We went to Oresti's twice during our time in Amsterdam because it was just THAT good. We tried almost all their menu items and were so impressed with the flavors of all their different foods! All the meats were so tender and so thoughtfully prepared. We would've gone a third time if they were open on Tuesdays!! Highly recommend!

I was warmly greeted as I walked in. It is not a large place but felt very warm and welcoming. I ordered a gyro plate to go and was told I could wait inside or out for my order to be ready. In less than 10 minutes I was walking out the door. I really appreciated that each of my food items was packed separately. Especially since I had a ways to go before I could eat. Because it was a long walk to where I was staying, my food was lukewarm when I finally got to eat. No fault of theirs obviously. In spite of that, it was amazing. The meat was super tender and so full of flavor. I was given a large container of tzaziki that was perfect with the meat. The fries were wrapped in aluminum foil and the portion was large. The cucumbers and tomatoes in the salad were fresh. I look forward to coming back and hope I can eat in the next time. I would highly recommend it. Rush in. You will be glad you did. And it is worth the walk.

I had the mixed grill and olives....perfectly cooked, seasoned and very large portions...so I needed a doggie bag to take home the rest. The dessert of ice cream/cake was also very yummy...the prices very reasonable considering the prime location, near the major sites/museums. There is a large selection of greek foods and take home products. The owner/staff are very friendly and professional, service fast, efficient with a beautiful view of the Amstel near the Hermitage museum and opera/ballet hall. This is a must visit in Amsterdam for Greek food lovers.

When we got there their kitchen had closed at 8 PM. Who does that on a Friday night? Grieks it was, and overall we are very glad we went there. The place was jammed with the outside completely full and people waiting. We went inside and were seated right away right next to the bar and the washrooms. Not ideal, but we were in after stepping over broken plates on the floor on the way in. It's nicely decorated inside, with wavy wall treatments. It's maybe a bit on the dark side, but we liked it. We were left alone for quite a while, and after we had decided we set the menus on one corner of the table, a sure sign you're ready to order. There were three people serving, the owner I'd say, probably his Son and a young lady. Our menus were picked up and taken to another table, still no order placed. A few more minutes later and the young man came over and very apologetically took our order. But then he was handed some plates to deliver and did not enter our order in the POS terminal, not a good sign! A couple of minutes after that the young lady came over and asked if we had placed our order and we said yes, with the young man. She asked what had ordered to drink, and we mentioned a litre of the house white and two glasses. A couple more minutes after that we had some wine delivered and we were far more relaxed. The young man came over and apologized again and asked we had ordered, this time it went into the POS. I should mention it was absolute pandemonium inside the restaurant which is quite a small place. Good was going out to the outside and inside at a good clip, and people were coming in to use the facilities. A couple of plates were thrown to the floor, there was music, a truly Greek experience. Our food came out quite quickly, both the main, a shared mixed grill, and a shared Greek salad. I do not like when both are dropped at the same time, but previous reviews talked about the wait time so, count your stars and eat your dinner. The food was very good and plentiful, although the 8 euros for pita and tzatziki that was average was a little rich. Overall our bill was €73 which isn't bad in Amsterdam which has proven to be quite expensive to stay, and eat. Complimentary Ouzo, an apology from the owner for the service delay and it's all good. There was a bunch of family in there and as it slowed down they all helped bus tables and clean the place up, which is nice to see. Was it perfect, hell no, but it totally reminded me of Greek places in Greece. Family run with family involved in every aspect, great food, and a typical family dynamic. At least there was no yelling! Would we come back, yes! Yes we would!

We couldn't get into LouLou Pizza next door, so we took a seat at this place…read more A strong start with the tzatziki, which was brilliant with a snap of garlic. Sadly, it went downhill fast. Or slow, if you count the epic wait time for our mains. We ordered the gyro platter (dried out, overcooked, awful, literally inedible); salmon (ditto to gyro: cooked too long, sat too long, utter garbage); and the moussaka (pretty decent. Not great, but it'll do). We have enjoyed Greek food all over the world, including Greece; this was appalling. The final insult was the price. We paid 112 euro for three mains and two appetizers and zero drinks. This would have cost $30 at Zorba's in Washington DC, tasted 900% better AND would have been ready in minutes. You'll do better throwing money into the Amstel.
