My wife snd i visited Amsterdam and stopped in for dinner. The room has a cozy, nice family feel. We both had lamb kebabs with bulger (it is impossible to find good bulger where we live). The lamb was perfectly cooked and the best i have had in at least 2 years. The bulger was the best since our old Turkish restaurant (which closed in 2020) in Chicago. We enjoyed a great Pinot with dinner to round out dinner. Oh, snd some yummy babaganoush (sp?) to get dinner started. I highly recommend Maydanoz and on our next visit to Amsterdam we will be back. read more

I am in the minority because my husband and I did not enjoy our meal here. The food was not particularly tasty and the service was often spotty. It took us a long time in between courses and forever to get the check. I also emailed about my food allergies in advance and had to explain everything again, in detail, in person. Tables are also VERY close together and it was difficult for us to leave. Overall, it was also very noisy inside but to be fair, it was Friday evening. Prices were reasonable. I would not come back here for dinner. read more

We had a wonderful experience at Maydanoz. The menu was available in multiple languages and included icons for allergens (gluten, vegan, etc.) in addition to pictures of each food item to help you make your choice. The main man running the show on our Wednesday evening was incredibly friendly and understood cross contamination well (he put fries in the oven instead of the fryer to be GF). They even had GF bread too. The flavors were a 10/10 and felt Celiac safe. read more

This was the best food I've eaten in Amsterdam so far. The restaurant is quiet and intimate, great place to see friends and to eat without the rush of a Main Street experience. The food is fresh and surprising, for instance the tabbouli has pomegranate seeds. The staff is attentive without hovering and the patrons all in a good mood, empty plates at every table. We visited today and were delighted. The service was phenomenal - we sat outside and were tended to at each step of the meal in a supportive way. The chef surprised us with a free and delicious tomato and garlic tapenade of sorts which was delicious! These are the standouts from our meal (please skip if down if you are a vegetarian) - * Charcoal Cooked Lamb - delicious, juicy, soft, fell apart in the mouth * Hummus - savory and served with bread * Baba Ghanoush - best either of us have had in our lives * Fries - good as anywhere in Amsterdam Other items we chose on the menu were good and not necessarily out of this world like the above items (other charcoal grilled meats were good). The menu has great vegetarian options, gluten free, and I think even some vegan choices. The chef understands flavor and that's essential to a great food experience and not altogether common. Went here for the first time last night and it was amazing. They were very sensitive to our gluten free need and ensured our food was handled correctly. The host was gracious and very congenial. After expressing how I loved the sauce on a vegetarian dish and asked if it could be done with a chicken dish, he said he would figure it out next time. The calamari appetizer with walnuts was different than what I was expecting, but was very good. The earthiness of the dish was amazing. The lamb chop main was also nicely spiced and cooked as well as I could have hoped. My only wish was for another side other than the fried potatoes for gluten free, even just a little bit of roasted veg? The salad that came with it was nice. My partner had the Maydanoz Sebze and he was raving about it. That is the dish that had the amazing sauce, should have asked for more GF bread to soak up the leftovers. The veg was beautifully cooked with the right amount of char and smoke to it. Too full for dessert but it was a great way to end his visit in Amsterdam. Thank you so much! read more

The waiters were very welcoming and created a good atmosphere for the evening. However, service was extremely slow and it took a long time until we got our food. I had several entrees and a chicken dish, which was grilled with a salad and fries. Very simple, bland cuisine which was not exciting and overpriced. The entrees were too garlicky in my opinion. I wouldn't come back for the food but still give three stars for the friendly service and overall experience. read more

Surprisingly enough.... I don't have much to say about this place. I looooove me some Turkish food and if possible, I would love to roll around in a baba ganoush like a pig gaily rolling in mud. So I was excited to sit down here while admiring the brightly tiled walls and Mediterranean décor throughout. I'm not sure about all you other Yelpers out there, but when it comes to Turkish food, I feel like the mezes are the CLEAR winners of the table and often times I can do without the main and just stock my belly filled with little plates. So we did that and got favorites like tabbouleh, kibbeh, and some new dishes for me like walnut paste and pumpkin with cream cheese and syrup. Hooooooooooooowever, I'm not a cheapo and I don't mind throwing down some money on good food, but the portions... WOW! Or I should use small letters 'wow' because they were tiny. Imagine chopping up parsley and tomatoes to make tabbouleh. Then you put it in a bowl and garnish it with pomegranate and oil. Then you take the remnants from the chopping board and toss them into a small serving dish. We got the serving dish of left over chopped parsley and not the bowl, just to give you a sizing sampler. The food was good, not amaaaaaaaaazing compared to other places, but for 5-6 euro for very little, I was put off by that a bit. So, good food, tiny portions, for higher prices... I'll probably stick to other places. Not saying it's bad, so if you're in the area, it's not a bad place to check out. read more

Very simple, yet very good food and service. I ordered an appetizer of hummus which came with local crusty bread in a few olives and cornichon. Definitely Turkish style in very good. For my main course I had the Stuffed eggplant with tomato and garbanzo beans which is favoured perfectly, in the eggplant was cooked just right. I followed the main course with Turkish coffee and the pumpkin dessert. I ordered red table wine in water. The only thing that was circumspect was the tiny bottle of water brought out without a cap on and I was charged 2.5 euros for it. There after I ordered city water and it was fine. read more

This place really deserves more reviews! I have been to Maydanoz numerous times and keep going back. There's nothing superspecial about Maydanoz, which I think is exactly why it attracts me. Back in high school I took philosophy as an elective and learned about Plato's theory of ideas. Well, to me Maydanoz is what would be called a Platonic restaurant. When I think of the word 'restaurant', a place like this pops up in my head. No fusion cooking, no amuses, no original table setting or food presentation. Maydanoz is completely free of any pretense and simply serves pure, well prepared food, has very friendly service, good wine and a really nice ambiance! read more

Good, simple Turkish food. We had one grill entree (the chicken) and two appetizers and it was enough food for two people. At 40 euros it can't be beat. The one star deduction is because: the house red wine was only okay-ish, the rice and salad that come with the chicken is also only okay-ish (the salad needs a bit more dressing), and the other grill selections are all lamb, which isn't my favorite. Not sure what I would eat the next time unless I get the chicken again, but that is boring! But despite these small downfalls it's a solid choice. read more

Really surprised this place doesn't have more good reviews. My husband and I ate here after a long day at The Hague and Delft. We just wanted to stay in the area and came upon this place. They served a small complementary appetizer of a tomato sauce and pita that was quite good. We had the Lamb kebabs and chops. The chops were tender and juicy, and served with a salad(no dressing) and really good tzatziki sauce. Both dishes had either French fries or rice(tomato broth with parsley and chick peas). Plenty of food. I had 2 glasses of a house white wine that was quite adequate (less then 4 Euro per glass). We enjoyed a Baklava, that was less traditional than Greek (not very sweet but good). The meal was very good and by anyone's standards, quite inexpensive. I just wish we had been more hungry to have tried some of the appetizers. There is a charge for tap water for the table. Only downside, was no dressing for the side salad, but I didn't ask if any was available. read more
