The owner was bizarrely hostile , arrogant and dismissive when asked specific questions about the food and even the neighborhood, which is odd in a tourist town where, like the owner, many are immigrants or travelers, visitors, who come from places where is may not b e safe to walk in a park alone at night. That was the question that sent him into a frenzy, whether the nearby park was safe to walk in....WTF? As if anywhere in Lebanon or most the world is automatically safe to walk in at night. Excuse me for being wisely careful, esp after having been pickpocketed on the Amesterdam tram..... Unlike Analya S. there was no glass in my falafel, but i agree with her about the flavors being inadequate. P.S. you DONT need to tip in Europe, full stop. I really enjoined this place. Probably the best Lebanese that I've had outside of Lebanon. The staff is really friendly and was so nice! They got excited about our appreciation of Lebanese food. We came for dinner and what they offered us was a combination of mezze and a main course - limited menu because they spend the day preparing, so if you are picky or want something special, best to call ahead. The price is higher around €24 per person for dinner, but vegetarian entrees may get you a little discount. I went here today for dinner because I was craving flavors from that region of the world. We got here and ordered off the menu, baba ganush, feta pizza, shawarma dinner, falafel dinner and Kibbeh dinner. As I was eating my falafel I bit into a big chunk of glass. The size of two corn kernels. That was not good. Called the waiter, he offered to replace my dinner with the eggplant dinner which was loved by everyone at the table. In addition to the piece of glass found in my falafel, I did not like flavors. I think I am going to call it my last falafel. I can't wait to go to Lebanon this summer to try all the deliciousness! I have a soft spot for anything with the word "artist" in it. Add the words lebanese food and i'm sold. thus, i was happy to give this place a try. we had the sampler plates, a bit of everything. the two items that stood out for me were the falafels and baba ganoush. the falafels had a nice flavor and with a perfectly crunchy outside and moist inside. the baba had that wonderful smoked flavor nicely meshed with the other herbs. the two items that were a miss for me were the chicken over rice and the house red wine. the chicken rice dish lacked flavor and the wine tasted like it was half water. BUT... the staff were so lovely and friendly. The atmosphere is also very welcoming and cozy. OH and last but not least, i enjoyed the baklava. not overly sweet, perfectly crunch with a moist inside. give this place a try. i'm happy i did! read more

From the first moment I stepped in to this place several years ago (before I became a member of Yelp), I immediately felt that special connection with my home country, and then came the food...... I felt like in those advertisements where you're immediately taken back to your childhood sitting on a table with your mum's cooking. The flavor of the food and hospitality of the family owners, made me feel like I am back to my home in the mountains of Lebanon eating home - made mezzes. This place was amazing. We arrived later in the evening and the kitchen was almost closed but the owner kindly let us sit down. We asked for his best judgement and were blown away by the dishes we were served. BEST BABA GANOUSH EVER! As we were walking around the pijp we discovered Artist. I already had Libanese food in the past so I figured it would be a nice choice for a change. We got in and the ambiance was very nice, very cosy and warm. So we ordered the menu for two including various mezza and kebab for the main. Right after we got our drinks one of the staff members brought us a plate with 2 mini starters which we thought was part of the menu at the time. So we digged in and ate all which was by the way really tasty. Then the mezza came and the main dish. All together the flavouring was decent but not as good as I remember Libanese food to be. Afterwards when the cheque arrived we were surprised that the mini starters were added to the total bill since we never ordered those, assuming that they were included in the menu for two. So we questioned this and they did indeed deduct that item from the bill, but unfortunately there was no remark of any remourse whatsoever. It almost felt like a tourist trap, paying for something u got offered but never asked for. Strictly based on this incident the number of starts are less than we intended. read more

This was just a disappointment: 15€ for a falafel menu consisting of bean salad (tasteless), tabouleh ( can be much better) , 5 falaffel (okish) , hummus ( nothung to write home about).We are nit exactly "food experts", but libanese food can me much more tasteful. This is for sure. read more

We had the menu for 2 with chicken and lamb for mains. The lamb was good. The chicken was dry. Rice was OK but nothing special. The baba ganoush and the falafel were delicious. The pita was warm and good. The other firsts, the humus, the tabouli, etc, were alright, not amazing. We assumed the wine at the table was included with the meal, but we seemed to be charged extra for it. Service was adequate. I'd give the meal a 3 1/2. read more

Artist is a wonderful find. Thank you, Yelp! We arrived on the late side on a Sunday evening. At the recommendation of the owner, we opted for a sampler menu. The falafel was most excellent: crunchy on the outside, moist on the inside, and not too "green" tasting. The tabbouleh was more herb and vegetable than grain and perfectly seasoned. The lamb was tender and flavourful. The house wine is a fine choice, and be sure to enjoy a cup of fresh mint tea. read more

We're an elderly couple. During our Europe trip we were several nights in Amsterdam in mid-May. One afternoon, spaced out from hunger and wandering around the Pijp district, we happened on Artist and nodded to each other: "We can't go any further." Nor did we need to. What a serendipitous choice! The gracious proprietor Simon met us, he was not quite open for dinner yet, but he welcomed us and seated us at a pleasant outdoor table. We were so fatigued we could barely read the menu. Simon offered to bring us a spread of marvelous foods, and that's exactly what he did. One dish after another, a table full of delightful, clean, healthful, gorgeous, incredibly delicious food. The felafels were divine -- I want them every day of my life! We cleaned every plate! Simon appeared now and again to check on us, and our reports to him just got warmer and deeper and more languid. This is a totally lovely man who has run his restaurant for decades and now has the help of his totally lovely son. These are warm-hearted, generous people, who have an authentic passion for providing splendid food. A peek into the interior revealed a cozy, intimate welcoming space -- it gave the sense almost of being our host's parlour/diningroom, very comfy and cared for. Our major regret from our days in Amsterdam is that we were unable to return to Artist for dinner. But it's definitely written in ink on our Soul Schedule for the future. A great find! I am half Lebanese and found this to be a lovely, family run, authentic restaurant. The owner brought us a Sampler plate that was superb and then suggested the lamb kabobs which were hot, moist, well seasoned and delectable! Cool atmosphere as well!
