Introduction: Before coming to Crustees the love for pies never made sense to me because all the pies I have had thus far: Cocos, Mary Calendar's, Farmer's Markets etc. have all been disappointing to say the least. Often the pies' pastry/crusts are stale, hard, and generic in flavor; therefore, whenever I eat pies, I usually throw the pastry/crusts away and just eat the fillings inside. I thought pies are something of a myth: a culinary delicacy that only the older generation of non-Asian folks know how to make [well]. However, after sampling some of Crustees's pies, my hope has been rekindled. Pies: Peach Cobbler: I remember the worst peach cobbler I have ever eaten; it is at the weekly Farmer's Market in Monrovia. Nine dollar a slice and the peach inside the cobbler is semi-pale in color and slightly mushy in texture; in short, the "peach" slice didn't taste like peach. The crust? Flavorless and generic. The peach cobbler at Crustees is different: the peach's texture is melt-in-your-mouth tender soft [eat it and you'll see what I mean] with a sweetness that's natural as opposed to being overt. Every bite is warm, wholesome, flavorful, balanced, and comforting. Apple Pie: I'm a sucker for apples and ever since childhood I have always had a soft spot for apple pies. Unfortunately, good apple pies are essentially nonexistent. At Crustees their apple pies are in a class of its own. The apple slices taste as if it were freshly sliced: vibrant in flavor(s) with good structural integrity. The cinnamon that accompanies the apple slices makes each bite unforgettable; the aftertaste of the cinnamon permeates and lingers in the palate long after each bite is swallowed. Service: The staffs are cordial, patient, and down to earth. Price: Normal pot pies costs about $5-$6 while fruit pies by the slice costs about $3.75. At Crustees their 6' pies and cobblers cost around $6-$9.5 depending on what you choose to get; their savory selection such as chicken, beef, and Shepherds pot pies cost around $10.99-$12.99. The quality speaks for itself: you won't regret paying their price. Today was our family's 1st visit to Crustees. I'm actually upset that we haven't been here prior considering that we are literally blocks away. They've been opened for almost three years and all I can say is, I see why they have weathered the COVID-19 restaurant apocalypse. The women of Norway (and Norway in general) 3. The Hollister Ranch 4. Mavericks. 5. The women of Rio de Janeiro (although that city is dangerous) Does Crustees belong on this list? I would love to write a positive review - But! I am in Virginia, trying to order a meal for my daughter who is in Los Angeles, alone on Thanksgiving Day....I called the people there and was told I had to order through Grubhub or UberEats and there was nothing else they could do for me....Hell, I would have paid them $100.00 to deliver it, but Customer Service in US is long gone....I tried UberEats, but because I am in VA, my Uber App won't let me order from a Los Angeles restaurant....So I call Customer Service for Uber Eats, - after speaking to two CS reps who did not speak or understand English, and I was hung up on twice - the third time would be the charm....This time, though the CS agent could not speak or understand English, after telling me to do things and visit screens on my app that did not exist, she told me that she would 'escalate" my issue and I would hear from an UberEats expert by email within the hour....hours went by...no one contacted me...So I contacted a friend who lived in Los Angeles and they ordered the meal through their Uber Eats App....All was confirmed....Success! Except a half hour before the meal was scheduled to be delivered the charge on my friend's credit card was removed and the meal was not delivered.....I, still in VA started calling Crustees to see if they were open and of course I get a pre-recorded message, that won't let me leave a message, because their "messages are filled" W-T-F-! Both UberEats and this place failed....I will find somewhere else to order Peach cobbler in Los Angeles and these guys missed out....DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME WITH THESE UNPROFESSIONAL WANTABEES!
