Blueberry with clotted cream
Heather Anna W.

Cute little place and very clean. I love when bathrooms are clean. The staff are very friendly offering suggestions. We had a savory comfort and a sweet crumpet with blueberry and clotted cream. Delicious. My daughter was really impressed. She loved it and can't wait to bring her dad back.

Visited on a recommendation and everything about CRUMPETS exceeded expectations. The decor is unique and inviting. The menu is straight forward with many variations. The crumpets, which I'd never tried before, are clearly perfected and consistent. We tried 3 varieties and had french press coffee service, the experience was delightful. We ended up buying a couple bags of crumpets to bring home, just as delicious the next morning.

Crumpet bread pudding with clotted cream, apple butter, and cinnamon

We've been here probably at least 7 times so far. This is one of our favorite locations in Rochester. We love how unique this place is. It's so cute and quaint, with beautiful teapots and vegan crumpets. Like many who have frequented this location, it was here that we experienced our first time trying a crumpet. We've learned to never compare them to an English muffin or cut them in half, for the sake of culture. They have very good tea and crumpets. The entire experience of having a tea there is refreshing. The owners are also lovely to talk to. They have so many toppings and frequently have specials. We always try to make it in when they have a new special. This weekend-- bread pudding! We got it with clotted cream and our own apple butter. -@cophiescrumbs on insta

Again this place is amazing. The crumpets are fabulous and the cheddar is local and has such an amazing flavor. Guys one of the best breakfast spots I've ever been to

Looking out the window from the bench seating

The atmosphere is Casual and the service is very friendly! I enjoy how many plants they have in the window, at the tables, above and on the counter, it is like a rainforest! Their bathrooms were also very clean. Me and my mom both got a bacon egg and cheese crumpet with extra crispy bacon and aged cheddar. I was on the verge of tears it was so amazing!!!!! We decided to get another one that was sweet so we got a blueberry jam crumpet. She then came over after we ordered and asked us if we have ever had clotted cream and she could put some on our crumpet if we hadn't. She put some on our crumpet and it was also AMAZING!!! They were super friendly and kind and I now want to go back for my birthday!! Thank you for the amazing meal!!!!

What could be better than a homemade crumpet? When I first learned of this place, I immediately bookmarked it as a must-visit during one of my Rochester trips. Took me way longer than I hoped, but I finally made it in this past weekend. CRUMPETS is absolutely adorable inside -- decorated with quaint little touches and the staff was just as endearing. Their menu offers a nice mixup of both sweet and savory crumpets, along with a rotating lineup of specials. I hoped for savory this time around, a crumpet with egg and cheddar cheese. My friend got a crumpet with their house-made raspberry jam, which I stole a taste of. Both were so delicious, the jam in particular had such a pleasant, tart raspberry taste. The crumpets themselves were so soft and fluffy, truly none that I've had before compare to these . I bought a pack of four to bring home! Next time I'm in Rochester I know I have to stop at CRUMPETS again. It is such a unique concept, and the food was delicious. A perfect breakfast or lunch stop!

Loved this place!! There is street parking around the shop. It is adorable inside, I love the plants and natural light. You can buy crumpets to go or order one of their delicious crumpet combos. We tried a breakfast crumpet with a fried egg, cheddar, and bacon as well as a crumpet with ricotta, honey and walnuts. Both were awesome!! The crumpets were sooo fluffy! I will definitely be coming back.

A crumpet with house-made raspberry jam closer up

I've been following the Crumpet lady on social media since she started her business, watching all the specials come and go, feeling tantalized by the combinations, but never finding the time to get over there during open hours. I finally fixed that when she advertised fresh, house-made clotted cream, and made a beeline over around noon on a Sunday. First of all, for whatever reason, our timing was perfect. Although both tables were taken (there's a table for 2 and a table for 4, plus 2 stools at the counter), and there was only one stool left at the counter, by the time we ordered (there is always a line with lots of people getting take out and/or ordering crumpets to go) and our order was ready, the table for 4 freed up. We quickly took it, even though we were only 2, and then noticed a couple people looking for a spot to sit, and since the table was large, and we are fully vaxxed and boosted, we offered the 2 open chairs to them and they took them. It was nice to share some chit chat, and our table conversation ended up engaging the patrons at another table too, and all around, it was so nice to talk to strangers!! It just felt really comfortable and welcoming. Second, the clotted cream was unfortunately sold out (though the crumpet lady herself promises it will make a return), so, next time around, we need to move faster on the specials. As the rest of this review will show, everything at this place is pretty special, and locals who've been in-the-know before me are snapping up all the goodies pretty quickly. Third, the crumpets themselves are exactly as others have described - sort of like a spongy English muffin, or a cross between an airy pancake and a muffin...there are options for savory and sweet, and for our first experience, we ordered some of each: one egg-cheese-bacon crumpet, one tomato-pesto-mozzarella crumpet and one with raspberry jam (house-made and low sugar - super delicious!!). We also ordered a full French press of coffee (versus tea, which might be more traditional...there was enough for several cups of coffee for us to share). I would say that the overall flavor of the crumpet is mild, even dipped in butter, but because of the richness of the added-on jams, pesto, bacon and cheeses, the combos really work, with the crumpet providing the perfect base. Fourth, the atmosphere of this place is really special. It's small inside, and you might end up waiting outside the door (i.e. in the elements...) for there to be enough room for you to stand inside in the line, or the tables might be full and you'll end up taking your crumpets home to eat, but once you are inside, the plants and decor and quaint mismatched eclectic china, plus the great light that streams in from the front window - all give you the feeling that you just want to settle into this coziness with your hot bevvie and crumpet snack, and stay a while. But don't stay too long because there are other people who also want that experience! Last things I'll say are that there is street parking or side street parking, but no designated lot for the business; the cutlery (both real for dine-in and plastic for take away) is self service; there is a wide variety of tea and coffee and you can choose if you want to-go cups or real china; and the crumpets themselves are vegan if you get one without butter, and there are enough options for vegans (jams, tomato, pesto, nuts and spreads), vegetarians (cheeses and egg) and meat eaters (bacon). Note to self: gluten free crumpets drop on Valentine's day.... We will definitely be back in the future, patiently waiting for a table, and hopefully beating the rush so we can experience the daily special!

I've said it before and ill say it again, CRUMPETS is my favorite breakfast spot in Rochester. Not only is the ambiance amazing (plants everywhere), but the restaurant is also deaf-friendly as one of the owners knows ASL. The crumpets themselves are delicious and their assortment of loose leaf teas is always a treat. Service is great and pricing is very reasonable :)

Inside

I do believe this was my first time having a crumpet. It makes me sad that I've been missing out on these for so long. First, the inside was very cute. It's a bit on the small side but it is set up well. They have a good menu selection and a good mix of sweet and savory toppings. They also have a small beverage menu. I really wanted to try the lox and cream cheese but they were out of the lox unfortunately . So instead, I ordered the cream cheese, dill & cucumber. It was so simple yet so good. The crumpet itself is an odd texture. I expected it to be crispy, but it was more on the soft and doughy side, which I loved! I don't think I've had anything quite like it. I feel like I need to come back and try a crumpet in every way possible. Next time, I am definitely getting one of the jam toppings. I honestly can't stop thinking about it and I wish I got a pack of them to take home. If you're looking to try something new, go get some Crumpets!

For sure a "if I could give one million stars, I would" kind of experience! I am in love with this amazing addition to the Monroe Ave scene. I split with my partner the bacon egg cheddar crumpet, a raspberry jam crumpet, and an orange marmalade crumpet. ALL of them were so special and delicious in their own way, with the star of the show being the fluffy yet dense, absolutely not-what-I-expected crumpet itself. When Americans think crumpets and tea, I would say most of the time we aren't thinking of what's served at this storefront. I personally always thought crumpets were like...cookies? NOT so! More biscuit/English muffin combo but BETTER. Evinn makes them fresh and you can buy them in a pack to go or hot and topped with a huge array of delicious jams, honey, cheese, sweet, and savory options. Both the marmalade and jam are made in house and the raspberry jam is seriously the best I've ever had. The interior is artfully done (both owners are artists and it shows) and the perfect spot to sit and enjoy some tea, relax, and take a big messy bite into this new-to-ROC treat. Plenty of street parking on side streets and directly on Monroe. Follow them on social for specials and updates on artist pop ups and more!

"You gotta know what a crumpet is to understand cricket" - a damn genius So you live in a town. Or a small or medium sized city. It's a fine place to live, the schools are decent (or not), and there are many bars and restaurants to which you can walk. Then, you (in this case, "you" means the entire population of the above described municipality, or the elites thereof) decide you want that next step. That next step towards greatness. That next step towards being something more! You build a Whole Foods. Years pass. Then you decide you need to take ANOTHER step towards being something... more! This is the time for you to open a crumpets place in your town, city, village, hamlet, or whatever (persons in Pennsylvania or New Jersey May open one in a township or "borough"). Rochester's crumpets place invites you in with the aquamarine facade that is squished between two older buildings. The interior of the crumpets place is cozy and the aroma of the crumpets wafts over your gigantic nostrils, as of the pancakes being made for you on a Sunday morn when you were just a lad. There are sweet options and savory options and tea options and to go options. The marmalade was the right choice, if you're a sweet person. It tastes... real. No smuckers here. This marmalade may as well be homemade (not sure if it really is or not. Didn't ask. So it might be. Let's pretend it is). Ricotta, walnuts, and honey were the right choice, if you're not a sweet person. The taste was subtle and enjoyable, flavors playfully complementing one another. The crumpets themselves are basically a thick, English muffin-sized pancake. Delicious. Get them to go and you'll be transported to Lord's Cricket Ground, London, every day of the week!

Ok I saw something fly by in my Insta and thought... Crumpets in Rochester? Yes Crumpets! Listen you can pick some up at a few stores around here.. but they can be a little meh. Cause they are not fresh, the real deal. Crumpets are one of those things you should get fresh.. eat what you can and freeze for later and pop in your toaster or whatever you like to use. I also ran into a friend who is a local food blogger also on insta Table for One. I'm sure soon she will post some things. Also we met one of the owners. Nice guy and told us more food options (like a breakfast sandwich or something) should be available next week or so. He was friendly and pleasant at 8 am god bless! The crumpets are made on-site and after they are made they need to cool for a while. What we got were just made and cooled overnight. They are lovely.. you don't cut them open they are not scones ok.. you toast them lightly (but I like a bit more toasting) the crust is toasted and the inside pillowy soft. I put some butter and jam on mine.. bliss! I just had two and my husband will have one with his tea later. The only place I ever got good crumpets was in the UK and now we have them here in Rochester, NY. They also have some teas, spreads and things for your crumpets and some limited seating. The inside is light and bright with all sorts of plants and the exposed brick. The outside is painted a bright shade of blue and you can't miss the store front. Hours are Wednesday-Sunday from 8am-2pm or I think until they run out. It's a nice addition to the Monroe-Meigs area. As always dear reader.. parking is street..but if you are not long try across in the shared lot with the convenience store.. that starts with a 7.... and a take out place. I will be back... you need to check them out.

I always like to look for espresso specials and we were not disappointed by the selection. My fiance got The Snug with maple syrup and molasses bitters. I was too afraid to try any drinks with bitters (I hate how it tastes in cocktails) but I took a sip of The Snug and it tasted great, I would definitely try that next time. I had the B.B.L. latte which had banana syrup, it was more on the sweet side but not overly sweet (I would avoid it if you don't enjoy a sweet palate, try a latte with bitters instead!) It was something unique to try and I was happy with my choice. There was also plenty of seating which is always a huge plus in the winter in Rochester. We had no trouble getting a table. I should also note that there was a very limited food selection here -- about 3 baked goods offered. So if you're looking for food and coffee, I would recommend looking elsewhere. Overall I would happily try out Ugly Duck again! I'm curious if they have outdoor seating in the warmer months.

The downside is…read morethat there isn't a lot of seating space--I actually came here a while back on a weekend and ended up leaving because all the tables were occupied. To counteract the limited seating, there isn't any wifi. While I can respect this decision, it is unfortunate that I was looking for a place to do work while sipping on coffee. I got the seasonal BBL (I'm assuming Banana bread latte). The latte itself is quite strongly brewed, and the drink was very banana-forward. There is a slight hint of acidity, but i didn't mind it too much. If I'm every in the area, I think it would be more prudent to grab something to go, but I do think it's worth visiting for the coffee and the vibes!

I love the atmosphere and the low lighting of this cafe, but was disappointed with their latte selection after being recommended this cafe so many times. I had a toasted coconut latte which was pretty good - but also pretty basic in terms of lattes that I have tried in the Rochester area. For me, this cafe was a one and done - not only because of the coffee, but also because of the service. I felt like the barista was a little rude, which I can consider could just be something personal that the barista was dealing with that day. However, as someone who appreciates good service (or at least someone who is kind), service means a lot to me. Overall, the coffee was pretty mid. I think Montgomery Court was a one and done for me.
