    Oatmeal cream with berry jam
    Terrence M.

Cookie: oatmeal with a cream and beery topping. Pros: this cookie taste better the next day. Meaning the flavors have to settle in order for everything to work. When I tasted this cookie right off the press it wasnt sweet at all. But together with the frosting it was poppin! Cons: the cookie part was not sweet the day of. Now together with the frosting and the berry topping was great together.

Crumbl Cookies, Salem. This week's varieties (they rotate every week :) )

Talk about a guilty pleasure! Ordinarily I avoid "pretty" desert offerings, because their eye-appeal far exceeds their taste. Not so at Crumbl Cookies. These luscious cookies are as good as they look. My favorites are the Classic Sugar Cookie and the Milk Chocolate Chip. For such a busy location, the well-managed Staff do a great job keeping up with the crowds. I find the store is always clean and bright, the outside area picked up, employees neatly "uniformed," and the service is fast and friendly. No shortage of hustle here! TIP: The Crumbl Cookies in Salem is always busy, so to avoid any waiting on my part, I like to order ahead, and take advantage of their Curbside Pickup. Fully deserving Five Stars, I will return - way to often :)

Very lucky that I happened to be in Salem on the day of the Grand Opening. Everyone in line received a free chocolate cookie!! The cookies were phenomenal. Each cookie was very flavorful, soft, and came out nice & warm too. The cookies are pretty big too! One cookie can be good for 2 people. They have a weekly rotating menu as well, so every Sunday they have new flavors that you can choose from. You can always check their social media to see what flavors they have before you visit. I came in around 6:00 PM and I had to wait about 30 to 45 minutes in line, which isn't too bad. The cookies and customer service were great, so it was worth the wait. Lots of parking in this plaza too. My only complaint was how safety precautions were handled during COVID-19. They had markers on the ground for social distancing, but it didn't seem to be 6 ft apart to me. There were also many customers who were allowed to go inside without a mask - it was especially children and older folks that weren't wearing one. Although there were several signs that encouraged pandemic protocols, the staff did not enforce them and made me feel unsafe being near customers that were exposing themselves freely.

Love that they don't run out of popular flavors. I can go late at night and they still have a nice selection. They are really nice too.

Cookies are very dry and way too expensive. I can get better cookies at local bakeries for less.

TLDR: The cookies are Fantastic!…read more Stopped in here after brunch at a nearby spot. I have heard via the internet that Sewell Sweets has the best chocolate chip cookies in Salem. Since the internet never lies, I had to verify for myself. I wasn't disappointed! Are they the best? I'll have to continue my research to say definitively. The cookies are fantastic! I will definitely be recommending Sewell when the discussion of cookies comes up, which it frequently does during conversations with me. Service was quick and helpful when we asked about a cookie that we didn't understand. The atmosphere is nothing to write home about but all I wanted was a cookie so no problems there. If you are looking for quality cookies or anything else to satisfy your sweet tooth, look no further. Well, stop here, enjoy your treat and continue your research, but you'll be back to Sewell Sweets.

My fiancé and I were looking for a bakery to make our wedding cake. We approached Sewell Sweets…read morewith excitement -- submitted an inquiry, made follow-up calls, sent emails, and confirmed directly with the owner before visiting. What followed was pure frustration. When we arrived, the employee had no idea about the cake box listed on the website and offered to call the owner when we raised the pricing discrepancy. While helping us, she was also audibly complaining about another customer, saying she "couldn't even wait 45 seconds." We ended up paying more than the advertised price and were only told after the fact that in-store pricing differs. All four cakes went in the trash. They were dry, stale, and one tasted so off that we couldn't take more than one bite. $48 for product that was completely inedible. When we called to report it, the employee showed no empathy, made no apology, and had a noticeable attitude. When the owner called back, I was calm and polite. I was hoping for basic acknowledgment, given we had planned to spend significantly more on a wedding cake there. Instead, he led with camera footage, misrepresented what I had said, declined my offer to return the cakes, and ended the call with nothing but silence and "I'll take it into consideration." Maybe it was an off day. These things happen, even at great businesses. But a great business apologizes, asks questions, and tries to make it right. None of that happened here. What makes this experience stand out isn't just one bad interaction -- it's the pattern. Unanswered emails. Misinformed staff. Inedible products. Dismissive phone calls. And then a same-day public response crafted to discredit rather than reflect. Do yourself a favor and find a bakery that actually values your business, your event, and basic human decency. Sewell Sweets is not it. --------------- UPDATE: The owner has replied to this review on Google, and while I have no interest in a public argument, several claims in that response are inaccurate and anyone reading deserves the full picture. We were not attempting a random walk-in tasting. An inquiry was submitted early-to-mid March, a follow-up call was made on March 18th, a follow-up email sent the same day, and we spoke to the owner on March 19th -- during which he confirmed he had seen our emails, that our date was available, and that he would be in touch. I told him we would be coming in the next day, exactly as his employee had instructed. We followed every step we were given. The owner did not apologize multiple times. He opened by citing camera footage -- for a quality complaint -- then told me I had claimed a cake was dropped on the floor, which I never said. I described the taste as "off" like he said, which is not an insult by any reasonable standard. There was a lot of silence and he just said "I'll take it into consideration." Twice. That was it. At no point during any of our interactions did we raise our voices, argue, or say anything disrespectful. We were nothing but polite. Also worth noting -- just because someone else didn't complain, doesn't mean our experience didn't happen. For someone who described an extremely busy service day, not a single positive review appears to have been posted that day, which goes to show not everyone shares their experience. In fact, this is only the 2nd negative review I have posted in my entire life and the only one that is food related. The owner claims he looked "carefully" into our experience -- yet by his own account, in just 25 minutes he managed to receive word from his employee about my call, conduct an internal review of the situation, review emails, confirm proper handling and quality of preparation, speak with three separate staff members about our interactions, and check camera footage -- and still had time to call me back. That is quite a thorough investigation for 25 minutes. Finally, it says a lot that a lengthy response was written the same day to dispute a customer's experience, yet an email sent over a week prior was never acknowledged and a call from days before went unreturned. ------

Their excellent variety of pastries, breads, and cakes make them one of the more standout worthy panaderias. This is as local as it gets. The shop caters to the local community in Salem, which is home to one of most underrated and budding Mexican scenes in the state. They have a fresh daily selection of various baked goods and pan dulce specialties. The shop is a bakery through and through, but also is a pseudo-convenience store. They also sell pre-bagged pastries, avocados, snacks, hot sauces, and drinks. Their conchas are excellent. I also really enjoy their bigotes, brocas, and chilindrinas. Like any good bakery, they also have special occasion cakes for sale, which can be customized if ordered ahead of time. Their Mexican king cake (rosca de reyes) Cookies and other flakey pastries, such as the abanico are often sold out before the day is over. Prices are not wallet breaking and the service is outstanding. Spanish is preferred and so is cash. There is no seating here, and it's never been so busy that I haven't had time to browse for what I needed. Parking is tight for a shared lot, but manageable overall. Anyone who is in the area and likes a good piece of bread(s), owe themselves a visit to Emilio's.
