Came twice, once as a walk in for lunch and once for dinner. When we walked in for lunch, the vibes were weird. The host asked us 3!!! times if we're eating, to which we said we are ordering a bunch of apps. The lobster roll here is iconic and delicious, arguably the best on the island. The pistachio ice cream is *chefs kiss*. All 4 of us were not impressed with the crucumber, I would skip it. We had such a delightful experience here from start to finish. All of the staff were so welcoming and made us feel right at home. We had an amazing table just in front of all of the docked boats so we could see and hear the sea in front of us and watch the slow rocking of the boats back and forth. We started with salads and then moved to the crab pasta and the lobster roll. Everything was simply delicious. The Crucumber martini in my opinion IS worth the hype. Amazing raw bar - loved the oysters and the raw clams (I much preferred the littleneck over the cherry but both were great). We also got lobster Cobb salads which were pretty average and a side of fries with Calabrian chili which were pretty good. They have both indoor and outdoor seating but we opted for outdoor, which was much calmer and quieter (the inside was pretty rowdy). Walked in as a party of 2 for lunch on a summer Thursday around 12:15pm without a reservation but were seated right away (there was plenty of outdoor seating available - less so for indoors). Sadly Your 1st interaction @ Cru is a rude, over-efficacious, condescending greeting from the hostess. Followed by a 15-20 minute (if you're lucky) wait for your server to take your order for ridiculously overpriced too much ice, cocktails. 20% is their guarantee no mater what, so there is zero incentive for them to hustle. The food is decent, no complaints there, but hey for a $38 cheeseburger it better be above average. Cru is strictly a FOMO spot, swarming with influencers taking pictures of anything on the menu. We were walking around that day and said let's stop by right when they open and see how long the wait is...we both wanted to eat here because we heard great things about the lobster roll! We check in and only had to wait 15 minutes to get seated right by all the boats and water! We had such a great lunch with beautiful views! Always a welcoming friend, at the end harbor-end of Straight Wharf if you take the Hyline boat. We were on Island the 22nd of November, and the outdoors furniture was stored inside CRU; we felt sad. Then we were on Island the weekend after Stroll, and saw that there were plywood boards on the windows for winter; I wept. Always a sad scene. Just like the lack of boats, yachts or activity in the Basin. Again, the best raw bar in the island. Best service. Best prices. Fresh, big, and a wide selection of oysters, clams, cherry stones, and shrimp. A wonderful lobster salad appetizer that is to die for! Even better lobster roll. Ice cold draft Cisco too! this was a pretty delightful meal. I tried 3 items. The house brioche & two pasta dishes: lobster cannelloni which was very unique. It's not often where you have a pasta like that and the moist taste of the poached lobster along with the sauce and baby turnips were the perfect touch & then the crab tagliatelle - this dish was super light & The crab tagliatelle+ lemon mixture was perfect. Both these pasta dishes were filling and didn't feel heavy. Highly rec all 3 items. Oh Cru, what happened? Never coming back. Been coming here for years and before when it was the rope walk. The Hostess have 0 class or training and are there only for their looks but that's all. They will tell you it's a 30 minute wait and then after 30 minutes will tell you it's another 30 minute wait. Then after waiting a hour you will wait 30 minutes for a server. Then after that you get to enjoy oysters and a lobster, both of which will have tons of shells. Tourist trap. Don't waste your time. Wow!!! This was one of the best meals we had on the island and the lobster roll (specifically the warm one) was hands down the best lobster roll I had there!! The seafood is fresh and everything is cooked to perfection. The views are gorgeous even though we were inside. Clam chowder was very tasty and so were the fried Ipswich clams. Some key standout dishes were the duck fat potatoes, each layer was so crispy yet soft. Makes a perfect bite. The grilled teardrop cabbage was amazing and it had a hint of chili oil which gives it such a great kick!! Cru was our most memorable dinner on our honeymoon on Nantucket. We had the FLUKE GRENOBLOISE (blood orange, capers, brown butter + croutons) and GRAND BANKS HALIBUT (safron shellfish broth, mussels, rouille, leeks + peas). Alright here are my thoughts. You are clearly paying for the view and rent of the restaurant in your meal prices. Not to say our party did not participate in the clean plate club, I just think for the prices, the meal should have been revolutionary and life changing. Cru was the restaurant I was most excited to visit during our most recent trip to Nantucket. Expectations were set high as it's supposed to be the it restaurant. We had a reservation for 8:45 on a Wednesday, but I wasn't exactly expecting a "club" vibe with loud house music. It was the kind of experience where the hostess doesn't even make eye contact with you when they ask for your name and reservation. Servers were nice and we were sat by open windows. Unfortunately it started raining with strong wind, we all got wet before the windows were closed.... We happened to be sitting next to the 2 windows that couldn't close properly so window frames just continued flapping in the wind for our whole dinner. We ordered the foccacia with honey ricotta, Ipswich clams, two shrimp cocktail. The foccacia was chewy and tasty, but not sure why they decided on a loaded tomato focaccia to pair with the honey and ricotta. Fried Ipswich clams happen to be my favorite, so I was excited to see them on the menu. I appreciate they tried to jazz them up with a pickled onion, chile, lettuce etc.... But this is a prime example of when simple is better. Ipswich clams are delicate with a pungent clammy flavor - I couldn't pick this up with the chile pepper. They were also soggy on one side. The giant shrimp were delicious. Perfectly cooked with really well make cocktail sauce. Definitely the best bite we had. For entrees we got the lobster roll with butter and the steak. The lobster roll was mediocre at best, mostly because the bun was incredibly saturated and soggy, barely staying in one piece as we ate. The lobster itself tasted fresh and was texturally good. A perfect lobster roll isn't hard to execute. The fries that came with the lobster roll were delicious. The steak... completely under seasoned! This really confused me, and it was obvious they forgot to sprinkle on some salt. It was overly charred on the outside, rare on the inside (we ordered medium), and the connective tissue made it impossible to chew and enjoy. The duck fat potato was also under seasoned, but at least I saw some finishing salt on top. The technique, texture, and fry was on point. read more

Finding a reservation at CRU is a bit tricky, but we were able to walk-in on a Thursday night in September and sat at a nice spot outside with a view! We had two glasses of the Cristina Ascheri Gavi di Gavi Cortese. It was very crisp and chilled well! We shared the NY style soft pretzel with honey mustard butter. It was ok, nothing too special! For an entree we ordered the lobster roll warm with lemon butter. This was very delicious and the portion was big as well! Overall, CRU is a great spot for dining and even better vibes! read more

The reviews seem all over the board here. I had a fabulous experience. We made a reservation for a Saturday night, arrived early and were seated right away. Our server was friendly, attentive, informative and gave us room to enjoy. We sat in the room without the bar and the vibe was loud and lively. Some people were dressed up and others were more casual. Seems like anything goes. We had champagne, martini and Baileys drinks. All were very good. The hot lobster rolls were yummy - maybe a tad bit dry, but the buttered bun made up for it. The cold lobster roll at 167 raw was better, but I still enjoyed it. The fries were just ok. I couldn't place the white dusty spice on them. Dip them in cocktail sauce for a better taste. We also ordered the Brussels, which had parm shavings and bacon. So so good. We had the best Sommelier who chose a really great French wine. We had the crab cake which was mostly crab versus breading which is the way it's supposed to be. I could give 6 stars based on how amazing our experience was. Why does CRU have such low reviews? The restaurant has service on par to that of a Michelin star's. From start to finish, staff was incredibly attentive and kind. They wipe down the table after appetizers, entrees, and they even fold your napkin for you when you leave the table. Food is crazy good. Drinks are even better. I highly, highly, highly recommend ordering their crucomber (?). I'm pretty sure it's their classic cocktail, and you wouldn't think that vodka and cucumber would be a great combination, but wow. So refreshing and light. I could drink like 10 of these. It's lightly sweetened as well, and it's just such a well made drink. We ordered focaccia, crudo, lobster roll, clam spaghetti, some oysters, and clam chowder. Our favorites have to be the lobster roll and the clam chowder. Like holy hell, both were some of the best I've ever had. Flavor is incredible, and they definitely pack on the lobster. Yes, it's harder to get a reservation here, but somehow we end up at Cru most every summer. The drinks are refreshing, service attentive, and very lively atmosphere- especially in the front room. While the lobster roll and salmon entrees were good, the standout dishes are always the shared plates and small apps. My tip: skip the entrees. Cru was featured on pretty much every list of where to eat in Nantucket, so we knew we had to try it. With it being our first dining on arrival to the island, the prices were a bit of a sticker shock, even having come from a large city. But we soon learned these were normal to high for the island, though extremely high for anywhere else. But, I don't mind paying so much when the food is good, and it was. Perhaps the best food of anywhere we ate the entire trip. We shared the Parker House Rolls (a must, and to-die-for) and local raw oysters, which were fun to try. I had a fish, that I don't see on the online menu any more, but I believe was a sea bass with browned butter, capers, and croutons. It was a bit rich but delicious. My dining companions had the duck (which from my taste was amazing) and the scallops (which were too salty, to be honest). The view of the harbor and atmosphere inside were both stellar, though it was extremely loud. We could barely hear our waiter over the crowd at the bar and had to yell to each across the table. To maintain its status as a relaxing, luxury restaurant, they should consider either capping the number of people permitted at the bar to those in stools or not having dining tables so close to the bar. Our waiter was wonderful--attentive, and made great recommendations. However, the hostess could have been better, as she didn't even ask if wanted to sit outside and then scolded me for attempting to take a branded pen from the hostess stand, which were sitting in a cluster of fifty or so right where mints or matches for patrons to take are typically. As NYC goodies, we were so excited to try this place after hearing the buzz -- though the lobster roll was good, the raw bar rendered one of us ill. My guest had food poisoning after enjoying oysters and shrimp cocktail (10$ per shrimp). It unfortunately characterized our entire trip - hard to ignore. We enjoyed food at several other restaurants as best we could - at a better price point, higher quality, and didn't take us out for the count! This yet again reaffirms the rule - the closer the restaurant is to the water, odds are the worse food will be. We come and stay on Nantucket every June for over three weeks. Our generations of family have enjoyed the island for many years. We always look forward to dinning at Cru for lunch. The wait staff is engaging and enjoyable. We were disappointed last June, and once again today, disappointment with the food. There were four of us, the menu is a bit limited and lacking the flavor you would expect. The smoked fish appetizer was presented beautifully, however lacked flavor, and was very bland. I returned the muscle entree because there was no broth, the toasts were burned, and the muscles over cooked and stuck to the shells. The prices should actually appear as $$$$. We have chefs in our family. We are not unfamiliar with good food. read more
