Walked in, once they spot you they will ask you what you're looking for. They get straight to the point. They didn't have what I was looking for but they saved me a ton of time if I had to find it. Super helpful. read more

I needed to get a lock rekeyed and found this neighborhood store. Most rekey businesses no longer have storefronts and have gone mobile. I was able to bring the lock in and was able to get the rekey done in less than 10 minutes. This business can come to you if you are unable to bring the lock into them. The store appears to have a lot of inventory to meet your key needs. So happy to have this store in the neighborhood. read more

Crown Hardware is the only place where I can always expect a great duplicate key! Many places make keys, but they don't make them correctly. Crown always has exceptional attention to detail, and I recommend them to everyone! read more

This is a neighborhood gem. This is the place to get keys made and any locksmith services.

A+ service! He has all the tools, well prepared, experienced and they are local. Highly recommend.

Their greeting was so rude!!! I went in & nobody was in eye view to greet me. When I said hello , a woman on business phone said " hold on plz". Finally, a man that was making keys said "what do you need?". I told him I needed a plastic snake to pull hair out of drain & he directed me w/annoyance in his voice!!!Finally, I went to pay for plastic snake. He said hold on to me, then said "come now". No bedside manner & attitude needs to be adjusted BIG TIME!!! I left feeling really upset & offended that the people there have no common sense of communication skills!!! They need to take a course in " SOCIAL SKILLS 101!!! I will not go back there esp., if people don't have common courtesy!!!! I definitely will take my business ($$$) elsewhere!!!SOCIAL SKILLS ARE IMPERATIVE WHEN HELPING THE PUBLIC!!! THIS COMPANY SUCKS!!!!!!!' read more

I'm not sure how this place only gets 4.2 stars. I brought in a mortise lock cylinder and the locksmith rekeyed it as I waited with original factory keys, which can be hard to find. Also they used a key code cutter to cut precise factory-quality keys instead of an electronic key duplicator which can sometimes grind the keys wrong. All of this took 10 minutes while I waited and the locksmith explained to me what he was doing. $28 for the rekey + 4 keys. You ain't getting that from your traveling locksmith, be real. read more

Ask if Joe Marina can be scheduled for a premise appointment. Especially if you have an old front door lock. He repaired my front door Skillman cylinder door set from the 1940s. He also checked another newer doornob in my home. A very knowledgeable and experienced locksmith. Joe explained everything about my old lock and another door knob lock. Most importantly, I can open my front door from the outside now. My experience at the shop where I tried to explain my problem was, let's say, challenging. I really knew what I was talking about. An appointment was finally scheduled after an unpleasant debate with an owner of Crown Locksmith. If it weren't for the age of my lock, I would have walked out. Not considered in the rating. It's who's doing the work that counts! read more

I personally had never been to this locksmith, but I found a set of keys in a car wash and I wanted so badly to return them and they're just so happy to be a telephone number on one of the keys so I called the man and informed him of what My Present goal was right now trying to get the keys back to the original owner and he told me if I dropped him off. He would make sure that they got back to the owner. I can't believe that I actually found a locksmith service that is able to do that. That's so refreshing to me And the man was so professional and so nice. I will always go there now to get my locks and keys key read more

Omar was awesome, he rekeyed every lock we needed and made a ton of spare keys for us all from his little van. Happily and with a smile. Very professional. read more

Key broke off in lock at an inopportun time. I guess there's never a good time for it to happen. Miles was onsite within 10 minutes of my call. Fixed it in 5. He recommended brass keys. They did a good job but it isn't the friendliest of shops. I think this shop is able to make almost any key and for that it makes it worth the trip. When I called around they were about the same price as any other locksmith. The best think about this business is that they have an actual store that you can go to. I would recommend it. read more

I received 5 star service from Joe Manina who touched up our ancient mortise lock and installed several new deadbolts. Highly recommend this shop. read more

I highly recommend Crown. Beyond happy about my experience with this company....this gentleman who came to service our gate lock which kept getting stuck after I would buzz it for folks coming in and then wouldn't lock again. To replace the mechanism it would have cost over $300 and then the labor on top of that. Unfortunately, I forgot the gentleman's name, but he suggested that he could repair instead of replace because the brand of the lock mechanism was top notch (installed by them many years ago) and worth repairing because it still has a lot of use in it. He worked on it for a while to make sure it was a perfect fit again. Cost $160. Money so well spent. These locksmiths are artisans guys. You don't get that quality anymore. We have used this company and their locksmiths since we moved into our home 40 years ago. Will never use someone else! read more

The most absolute rudest and abhorrent person I have ever encountered in my 15 years in the service industry. Do yourself a favor and just go to Ace Hardware Store to save yourself time and money. Came in to get a copy of 2 keys and 3m Double Sided Tape. The guy working the key machine is the worst and absolute rudest person ever. He will berate you while you're in line and whisper obscenities loudly to himself so the whole store can hear. Sorry that you're pissed off cause you have to do your job. Don't come here read more

This is a true statement. I returned an item an hour after purchasing it. The packaging clearly stated my consumer rights. The owner yelled at me. He threw the defective item on the floor. His employees looked on. Mouths agape. "Give him back his money. You're a fucking asshole. Never set foot in this store (Crown Hardware), again!!" My wife and I are legacy customers. We have done business with previous owners since 1978. Never, again. read more

I never write yelp reviews however this deemed appropriate. For years I've had a stubborn door that liked to break keys for a living. On top of that- my landlord loved charging the $50 replacement key fee each time. Today I walked into a crown locksmith and save and asked if they were able to make a copy of this stubborn key. The man working there said this was a uncommon shaped key and would do the best he could to make it work. This guy took the closest shape he could find and then proceeded to custom shave down the shape as close to the shape of the original. He warned me that it might not work and said if it didn't, to come back for replacement. Well, they key works..... better than the original!! Sending all my neighbors and friends here for their next key copies. Thanks again to the master key smith here!! A true renaissance artist. read more

They responded quickly as they were able in the short notice I gave. Much thanks for helping with our electric door lock mechanism.

Update to previous review: I needed help with a door latch that was sticking, and also hard to lock at night. I called Crown Lock at 9:15am Monday and was able to schedule a service visit the same day for 2:30pm. Joe was the technician and he did a fabulous and fast job servicing the latch. It works "like butter" now HaHa! I am so glad I decided to call Crown Lock again. Super fast, reliable and knowledgeable! Will be calling again the next time I need a locksmith. Thank you Crown Lock! read more

Superlative service, never too busy, very knowledgeable staff. They make problems go away!

Got locked out of my Mini Cooper. Locksmith arrived within 20 mins of calling Crown Locksmith & Safe. He unlocked my car within 5 minutes and I had to show proof of ownership of the vehicle and they charged me $105 Efficient. Affordable. Would reach out to them again. read more

Life savers!!! Crown Locksmith saved us from going insane. We had a dying carbon monoxide sensor going off inside a locked closet to which we never got the key from the previous owners. Just imagine days of that intermittent beeping, making noise all the damn time. Since we wouldn't go outside due to the combo of COVID and bad air quality, we had to stay inside and listen to this beeping while we tried to open it ourselves - TOTAL FAIL. We broke two drill bits in the lock. Finally, we gave up and called for help. Here enters Crown Locksmith. We called a few places for pricing, and they gave us the most reasonable quote (lowest service fee, in half-hour increments). They were very sympathetic to our dire situation and came out as fast as possible (not same day but within a few days). Plus, they were very helpful in telling us what else we needed to consider for the job. For instance, not only did we need help getting the lock open, we also needed to replace the handle. The locksmith that came was very professional, respectful, and helpful. After the lock was removed, there were a bunch of little metal shavings on the floor which he cleaned up! We literally didn't have to lift a finger. On top of all that, he gave us great tips on how to keep our garage safe!! My husband said this was pretty much the perfect experience. He did the entire job in 30 minutes for a final cost of $150. I was shocked to see that price tag. I've locked myself out of my apartment before, and it cost me $300-400. I highly recommend Crown Locksmith and would use them again for any further lock-related issues. read more

Highly recommend-- they were fast, efficient, skilled, and very easy to work with!! I highly recommend if you need a locksmith in SF.

I've only gone to Crown (hardware) a handful of times, but they've failed on two basic products: keys and fluorescent tube light bulbs. I got a key made there that did not work at all. I got two tube light bulbs (no packaging, the guy got them from a box in the back). One of the bulbs went out in less than a month; the other bulb went out in eight months. I'll stick to Standard ACE and Cole hardware. read more

Cannot say enough good things about Crown Lock! Excellent service, super reasonable prices and they go out of their way to take care of their customers. I work for a property management company, we had a break in at one of my low-income elderly buildings, so we are changing the locks for the tenant's safety and also peace of mind. Crown Locksmith was very professional and prompt, and came out the same day (I called at 3pm!) to install the new locks because I told them the building was filled with elderly who were living in fear since the break in - they were going to come tomorrow until they heard about the elderly population! A++ service, prompt, efficient, and professional. There are some good hearted people working here, I will give them my business from now on, and recommend them to everyone I know. read more

I've been using Crown for years. I recently had a lock installed by another locksmith in an emergency. The lock started acting up and the installer doesn't do "repairs". Called Crown [who I should have called initially] and they were out in 15 minutes. Reliable, fast and professional. Sure, they cost a bit more; but, frankly, I'd rather pay for the good stuff. read more

To my dismay, I discovered that my ancient and very expensive Baldwin mortice lock on my front door would no longer open from the inside. To get out of my house I had to go through the garage and open the front door with a key from the outside! I was panicked at the thought of the cost of repairing this complicated mechanism and fearful of relying on some novice and unknown locksmith and soon exhausted my online search with no obvious candidate. So I removed the lock and to my amazement found a label on it with the name of a venerable and trusted wholesale hardware institution, MacMurray-Pacific, and I immediately knew my search was over. One short phone call to them yielded the dependable recommendation that I needed: Crown Lock. I brought the lock to them they explained the problem and a simple solution and would have not charged me a cent had I not asked them to open it and lubricate all the moving parts, which they did and included fixing a problem that had prevented my usage of the dead-bolt. I was delighted to pay $45 for their deep expertise which allowed me to reinstall the lock the next day with dramatically improved operating results. You can't find this deep knowledge and understanding just anywhere, and these people are devotedly honest and committed to fairness in solving customers' locksmithing problems. I couldn't recommend them more! read more

Crown Locksmith & Safe - Reinstalled Baldwin Mortice lockset - Hardware Stores Near Me - San Francisco, California

The locksmith from Crown was friendly, helpful, and skilled. He took the time to patiently explain why we needed a new doorknob and plate (ours was the original from 1938, with a unique cutout in the door and not repairable or made anymore). Plus, he offered a helpful suggestion about getting the door to stop getting stuck in the door frame. I've been using Crown Locksmith & Safe for over 20 years. They've always been personable, efficient, and professional. I refer them to anyone I know looking for a locksmith. read more

I less than three Crown Lock (I guess there's also an "& Hardware" in the name, but they answer the phone "Crown Lock" and that's what the sign says, so that's what I'm sticking with). Apparently the key that opens my garage door lock just flat out doesn't exist anymore. After going to 3 different hardware stores that "also make keys" who didn't have the key I needed, I went to Crown. Now, they also didn't have the key that is apparently as rare as a Loch Ness Monster, but the very helpful Jesse shaved down another key and ghetto-rigged one for me. I was a little skeptical when he told me it was "50-50" that it would work...but it did! So thank you, Crown Lock and Jesse the Fabulous Key Sculptor for making it so that both my boyfriend and I can get into the garage. They only get 4 stars because, although my difficult key works perfectly the average one that any old hardware store carries ended up not working...I might edit this based on what they do when I go back later in the week to get a new one made again. read more

So, our front door lock froze up (and died) trapping us INSIDE our house- yep! Crown saved us! If that was not enough- they were able to switch out the front door lock with another lock from our basement door. Our doors came with locks from 1995- only labeled "Made in Italy"- it was extra great that Crown was able to work with these obscure locks. All in all, a great experience- being rescued AND not having to try to find a new obscure lock to secure our front door. Thanks so much! read more

Cannot say enough good things. It had been a rough day, water main broke in my house, I wasn't home, firefighters had to break down the gate and door to get in. So with newly broken locks I was in search of a replacement. I was referred to Crown by a neighbor since the locks on the gate are a specialty piece that no big box hardware store would carry. As soon as I arrived in Crown, I was greeted with executional customer service the kind of stuff Mom n Pop shops are made of. I had been to 2 other places this day for other errands having to do with a newly flooded house and nobody working in the other stores could care less about what I was telling them. I was only shown empathy here. Charlie (iirc his name) was EXTREMELY knowledgeable and was able to find and bring me exactly what I needed without hesitation. He was truly a godsend on this day, legitimately made my day better. I hope he and Crown stick around for a long time! Thanks again guys! read more

It was Memorial Day weekend and a tenant at my uncle's rental call Saturday evening, stating someone tried to gain access to the rental property by partially breaking off the deadbolt lock on the gate. The lock was still functional, and everyone was able to get in and out of the property. A permanent fix is to replace the deadbolt lock. I called Crown Locksmith that morning and got a call back from David within a few hours. Davis was the only locksmith on duty for Crown and he had a full schedule. He arrived shortly after 3pm, my appointment was from 2:30pm - 3:30pm. He was done near 4:00pm. Another good experience from Crown Locks especially on a Holiday weekend. read more
