This review is for the chicken and the service - takeout. Deliciously crispy juicy *slightly wonderfully greasy...fried chicken!! The batter also had a wonderful peppery flavor to it. We loved every single bit and piece of chicken. My entire family including a 2 and 4 year old were gnawing away happily on their chicken drumsticks!! We weren't sure how the pieces would be, so we ordered a 35 piece bucket..LOL, it was actually the size of a full catering tray! LOL On the way home I kept kicking myself that I ordered way too much. All I can say after a few bites, I was so excited to have days of leftovers!! Heat the leftovers in an air fryer and it's as good as new. We can't wait to try it again...but it will be a while...maybe in a month? I will feel like fried chicken again! LOL The mac and cheese was ok - it was batch mac which means the noodles are not al dente, over cooked for my taste. The french fries were nice shoe string fries with sprinkling of seasoning. Not sure what, but it was tasty. We also got a nice salad they happily customized to not have onion. We were greeted immediately upon entry and it was a bit snowy so he allowed me and my sister out the side door where we parked, So nice and kind!! The place inside was simple cafeteria style set up. Ordered out so I cannot speak to the in-store experience but as far as food goes I have a few notes. First off the Beef patty is very good, crunchy and flavorful but I wish there was a bit more filling to crust ratio. The chicken was well seasoned, crispy and juicy I liked it a lot but the sides were very much lacking. The fries are oily and undercooked and the Mac and cheese tastes frozen and bland. There's zero traceable way to find the name entered for online orders? Or even the name on the credit card that paid? Stopped here after we saw the "kebab" sign. We were about to drive to Bar Harbor and wanted something fast that wasn't the Golden Arches. It was quiet when we went in. The man behind the counter was friendly. I have been searching for something like a donner kebab for a long long time and their gyro wrap is the closest I have come across. The meat wasnt greasy like at some places. Really great portion size too. My husband had the marinated lamb chops which I tasted and thought were great. The kids had nuggets and fries which met with approval. The cook seemed to actually care about whether or not we enjoyed the food. We plan on returning. The only reason I gave 4 stars was because the restrooms are pretty gross. Lots of graffiti and damage and no towels to dry hands. read more

This place was great. Five star compared to similar restaurants. I had lamb gyro meat on a bed of soft flavored rice with a salad with the whole thing covered in tiziki sauce. I also ordered a chicken breast that was fried and salty and delicious. Friendly service and someone came out to check on me and the quality if the food. It was really great. Pretty good fried chicken and shrimp, maybe even better than Popeyes or KFC but honestly for take out or delivery half of the time they forget your soda that was paid for and rarely remember to provide the right sauces such as hot sauce, ketchup or tartar even upon special requests nor napkins or forks. Kabab rice platters are the thing to get here. The shish kabab. Chicken is moist and flavorful, the salad is dressed with yogurt based tzatziki, and the rice is the king of it all. At both Portland locations, particularly Forest Ave, the staff don't know the difference between a leg and a wing, or a thigh and a breast, so delivery orders were always wrong. So the last time we wanted fried chicken, I went in to get takeout (August 2024 Forest Ave location) I had ordered online. When I got there the order was supposed to be ready, but even with no customers in they still hadn't started making it yet. I was bummed out to see the restaurant was pretty dirty - run down looking with filthy walls and a grimy vibe. Staff seemed totally checked out, moving super slow. A cook trudged in and set a huge uncovered tray of rice down in front of me on the counter where you pay, ie not a work space. We actually got sick from the food that time and haven't been back. This place suffers from what I like to call Great-Lost-Bear-Syndrome: they have a huge variety of food, but can't specialize in one thing. Good, but not what I expect from a place with "fried chicken" in their name. It's like slightly glorified grocery store fried chicken. It was about $1-$1.50 per piece. I was thrilled, positively thrilled, to see a new Fried Chicken spot in town. I mean, since Kentucky Fried Chicken totally screwed up their biscuit recipe (have you tried them lately? Sawdust.) I've had the same product that lays under a heat lamp for the next order, and it's just a grease bomb and cold...this was pretty darn good. There are 2 locations near me in Portland Maine, one right on forest Ave., which never answers the phone, and the other is on St.John Street. Was just on St.John, got a ride from a friend, passed by the place, saw the sign said 'free delivery'. That seems to be the case with this place. I came in with my brother - who really wanted fried chicken - and I was really curious about the kebab. Although the menu is so expansive that the kebab section is actually partially obscured by the counter. If they stopped adding items this probably wouldn't have ended up being a problem. I never thought I would see a CFC in Maine. I am so thrilled! CFC is the type of joint you would find in a large city on a street corner. They have everything...and more importantly they everything is delicious. Favorites of mine, both at this location and at the many other locations that I have tried include: fried chicken, pizza, buffalo wings (I skip the buffalo sauce and go straight for the hot sauce, which is served on every table with their fried chicken), cheese steak and Jamican Beef Pasties. The staff is very friendly and clearly passionate about what they do. I really, really am impressed with the quality of the food and the dedication of the staff. Went in on a Saturday at 4 to order dinner for me and my friends. Guy at the counter was rude and short with me. Ordered 2 gyros and some wings. I go to sit down and cashier tells me to come back up. This is really decent, affordable fried chicken. When Crown opened, I felt like our little city of Portland had finally arrived - we had a new, chain, chicken place. I finally got around to trying it, take out on our way home from a couple of days out of town. 5 pieces of chicken - our choice of pieces, and an order of fries for less than $10. The fries weren't great - much like McDonalds but a little more dense. And I really enjoyed the chicken. Crispy outside, juicy and flavorful inside. This isn't my favorite fried chicken in Portland - that's actually at Rosie's in Commercial Street, but I'll definitely come back again. Besides, they're open until 2am, and they also have ice cream. I feel sick as I type this because I picked up dinner here on my way home last night. Now, granted, that is my fault, because I sort of knew what I was getting into when my only path toward choosing this place was "they're the only place open right now." The menu basically wraps around the whole perimeter of the building, listing items like pizza, kabaabs, fried chicken, fries, potato salad, macaroni salad, buffalo wings, steak bombs, garden salads.... everything under the sun.
