Great sandwich and pasta spot in Scarborough. We visited for lunch and the meatball was the go to. I got the steak and it was great. Staff are friendly and the food is made to order and comes out hot and fresh!!! Great selection of chips and sodas. Was a great lunch spot The ambiance was casual and friendly with clean atmosphere. They have to go and a drive thru! read more

Amato's - Menu order counter - Sandwiches Near Me - Scarborough, Maine

AMATO'S Italians are understood as the best Italian subs in Maine. It's quick and easy; lots of great stuff on the menu, including including their eggplant, which I really enjoy. However, this week I realized something else that's good about them: my sandwich, drink, and cream cheese brownie only came to about 14 bucks. That's pretty cheap for the area. My mouth is watering just writing this review. read more

I always love a good amatos sandwich and stop here frequently on the way to the beach. It's always so busy though. I called ahead the other day and it said an hour wait. An hour wait for sandwiches. They need to staff better because no one wants to wait that long. I still love the food though! read more

Service was excellent. Very good employees at this time. Good is good, double meet not worth it.

An Italian so good it could bring you to tears, But they only get it right two times out of eight, it appears. For a sandwich this simple just three things in the stack. You'd think they could manage to get it on track.... read more

Our first (but not last) visit to Amato's (Scarborough location) today. We're visiting family in the area and wanted to bring a meal for a birthday celebration. We were not disappointed with our selection of pasta with meat sauce and meatballs and are looking forward to eating the leftovers tomorrow! Reasonable price with large portions. Friendly, helpful staff! Thanks for a great meal! read more

Amato's was once a great sandwich shop. Good food. Good service. That's no longer the case. I'm sure it's difficult hiring good workers, but there's no management and overseeing of staff. Food is made wrong. Delays. It's not the store once was. Find another place to go. read more

Great food, reasonable prices. Tend to be packed around meal times. Wish they were open longer hours.

I was looking forward to a nice, rich delicious meatball parmesagna hero. Well it came with plenty of meat sauce and cheese, The only thing you could taste was salt. Salt, salt and then some more salt. I ordered some extra sauce because that's why I like it, and that was all salt too. I'm so terribly disappointed. I usually get my meatball heroes from Pat's Pizza, but I decided to give him out of a chance, which I do once every year or so. I couldn't have been more disappointed. Salt, salt, nothing but salt. read more

This is such a great Amato's location! I stopped by here last night on the way back from a dip in the ocean in Scarborough. In true Maine fashion/tradition, an Amato's Italian sandwich was necessary while drying the salty water out of my hair and shaking the sand out of my shoes. I called in my order and the person taking it was super friendly. She was incredibly patient as I described my mega-specific order (we're an add-mayo, load-up-the-olives household). I arrived 10 or so minutes later and the Italians were already waiting for me. The staff was super friendly and even gave me a very sturdy bag - sometimes leaving Amato's, your bag gets so oily it rips! These bad boys stayed totally fresh until I got home (and even after I spent fifteen minutes looking for parking! Dang Portland). I've had issues with other Amatos skimping on ingredients, or really just missing the mark with ratios - but they nailed it on these. I got extra American cheese and extra olives, and everything was SO FRESH AND SO DELICIOUS. It was refreshingly good. They did not skimp on my extra olives. My boyfriend got his usual - double large Real Italian - and said it was the best Amato's he's had in recent memory. Thanks for ruling, Amato's. Only thing keeping this from five stars is that parking and pulling out of the parking lot can be tricky! But that's not their fault. They're just popular, as they should be. read more

Amato's - Sandwiches Near Me - Scarborough, Maine

I am originally from Maine but have had the opportunity to live all over the US. Amato's is one of those places that just gives you the taste of home. Whenever I am back in Maine I make it a point to stop at one of their locations. I like The Original Italian, Pazzo Bread, and they have the best sour pickles. While yes they're a chain local to Maine they definitely have that home feeling. read more

Friday was craving a Real Maine Italian sandwich. My wife and I ordered 2 to go. Got them home and they were delicious. We will be back read more

Amati's is always consistent!!! They were also very accommodating!! I ordered a large sandwich and they wrapped half for me for later!! It was perfect and so friendly!! The Roast Beef Italian was Awesome!! Fresh and flavorful!!! read more

Having had many italian sandwiches over the years, I think this is the best around. Their lasagna is also wonderful.

Wow! A true Italian sandwich! I would eat here again in a heartbeat. The bread is so soft and buttery and the pickles make the sandwich

Italian was a lot like a Subway sandwich. Serviceable, but nothing terribly special!

The counter help really needs to learn customer service skills. Yesterday the young girl asked an older woman (probably 70) if she wanted a bag for her food. The woman said "oh yes mam", the girl at the counter said "please don't call me mam". Learn some social skills, please!!! It seems half the people who work there don't know they are there because of the customer. read more

Great Italian sandwich should of gotten double meat only one slice of cheese and one slice of ham (Maybe I got the wrong sandwich) otherwise tasted good but would of liked more meat Jim had the Italian grilled sausage which was excellent read more

got a blt there and thought the bacon looked a little undercooked but ate it anyway. minutes after i got really hot and my stomach started to hurt so i went home where i proceeded to shit myself and vomit all over the place. edit: I am now in the emergency room with food poisoning from eating their food. PLEASE DO NOT EAT HERE!!! read more

This place is an absolute joke, ordered a chicken salad with extra cheese. No cheese, barely enough chicken to fill a wrap but yet I'm charged 8.75 plus tax. Unfortunately the only reason this crap place is here is there is zero places to go in Scarborough. Do yourself a favor and drive the extra few minutes to Jersey Mikes. Polite staff and actual value. Never again, complete waste of money, looking forward to continuing this post in other forums and boards. Don't patronize a business like this! read more

Every single time we order from this place our order is wrong... Somethings missing somethings added. We constantly chalk it up to "maybe just the B squad was working tonight" & we let it roll. This time we were finally fed up because the entire sandwich was wrong. We drove all the way back to get the correct sandwich & they had the nerve to charge us the extra $4! Honestly go out of your way to go to any other location. This place is a disaster. The final kicker: WHEN I GOT HOME THE SANDWICH WAS STILL WRONG!!!! Shame on me, I guess, for not having that employee show me exactly what was on the sandwich before I left. read more

Ordered a veggie/pepperoni pizza. Delicious. The greek salad however, must have been yesterday fare that was semi frozen from the cooler instead of made fresh...although I called in the order giving 30 minutes to prepare. It should not have been served! If it had not been a rainy cold day I would have brought it back to the store. "Bad Form" to the employees who knew better than to serve that! read more

REAL Italian sandwiches...NO. No self-respecting Italian would ever put pickles on a sandwich. The "Italian" bread is nothing but a glorified hot dog bun. Practically no meat in the sandwich I ordered (Genoa + Provolone sandwich). $23 for two sub par sandwiches, two drinks and a bag of chips. Added one star for the friendly cashier. read more

It took an hour for them to make one cold Italian sandwich. I called ahead 15 minutes prior to picking it up, then waited 45 minutes in store with an impatient toddler for one measly sandwich. All the while, the young lady at the end who is usually on the register is sneezing and coughing onto the hot food counter and all the to go boxes and wiping her nose on her arm and shirt. Well, at least she had gloves on right? Yuck. Then another girl with hair a mile long appears, no pony tail, no hair net, just long hair being whipped around the sandwich toppings and everyone's food. I'll be skipping this amatos now. read more

We showed up at 11:15pm, restaurant closes at midnight. We walked up to the door and it was locked and no one inside. We drove around the side to exit and one lady waS standing there smoking and 2 other people inside talking to each other. If the restaurant is going to publish open hours then they need employees to be available to customers during those hours. read more

I heard about this place and saw it on travel channel. The Italian sandwich was a joke. Just too funny. I ordered extra meat it can with 2 slices of ham and cheese. Fresh cut tomatoes and peppers. I gave it 3 stars for local fame. I guess I am spoiled from local sub shops back home Boston for sure. People from NY must also leave with a chuckle. The bottom line it might be a famous place in Portland but this is no Italian sub shop. The pizza looked good and the place was packed. read more

Thank you, Amato's. Thank you for being open in the midst of a blizzard, when all the world was safely holed up at home, but we had to go to work. We left early, not knowing how long it would take to make the normally 20-minute drive to the Southern Maine Processing and Distribution Center. My little Honda Civic bravely negotiated the barely-visible roads. There were a couple of dicey bits, coming through the salt marsh, but by the time we reached Oak Hill, it was apparent that we'd make it to work with time to spare. And there, through the driving snow, we saw your light. You were open! We could stop, get some subs, regroup, then return to the road, renewed. It was a small miracle. We turned into your driveway; it was freshly plowed, which we knew couldn't last. It was almost as if you were waiting for us. Pulling into the empty parking lot, we braced for the howling winds and made a dash -- more of a tromp, really -- for the door. Shedding enough snow to fortify a small ski resort, we regarded the menu, basking in the warmth of your pizza oven and the glow of your lighted menu. We chose the BLT sub, untoasted, and a large Italian, extra meat. Even though your hard-working employees wanted to go home, they didn't show it. They made our sandwiches with loving care -- and even made my bacon FRESH. The smell of it filled the store, and I knew ... however frightful the weather, Amato's is surely delightful. read more

Great Italians. Other food is pretty good to. Don't love this specific location which is why I gave 3 stars. Place is dirty and workers goofing around behind the counter instead of working on getting the line down. read more

My favorite food of all time is an Italian from Amatos. The bread is perfectly chewy and soft. I love how the sour pickles and the veggies work together with white American cheese and ham to give it a fresh, but satisfying taste. I was born in Maine, but have lived most of my life in Ohio. I certainly took for granted the most Devine sandwich ever created when I was a child. Now, when I visit I eat one everyday...sometimes two. read more

Every time I have ordered to go and come to pick up I walk to the "pick up" side and stand for at least 3-5 minutes without being acknowledged my anyone who is working. Once someone does decide to speak to me it's as though they're irritated by me being here. Nothing negative to say about the food as that is always good but this location in Scarborough definitely needs to have a training in customer service. read more

Amatos is generally my go to for pizzas & Italian sandwiches & those are the best made around! Unfortunately, I was recently severely disappointed in 1 of their most expensive offerings...their Lobster roll. I admit they didn't skimp on the lobster meat & the roll was grilled to perfection (meriting 2 stars), but it was all completely ruined by the over abundance of Mayo. The lobster meat was swimming in Mayo! It was to the point of being sickening & making it almost inedible. Had I not had to go back to work, I would have returned it & asked for a refund. What was supposed to be a treat for myself for getting a better job, made me sick! Even McDonald's use to make a better Lobster roll! So if it's Lobster you're craving, go somewhere else. read more

yo i brought my friend water as she puked up her entire blt would not recommend unless you wanna throw up. also the bacon was undercooked

Customer service is slacking. It feels when I call to place an order that I'm bugging them. Far too often I have to call back after picking up my families food that something was made wrong or missing. Customer service is very important to me when spending $ and this location does not have it. read more

When Im in the mood for pizza, a sandwhich or pazzo bread.... I go to Amatos!! Thier food is always fresh, they have nice employees and the price is right. I am a huge fan of their Cheese Pazzo Bread. It's like a pizza minus the sauce in which they give you a nice serving of marinera sauce in a cup to dip it in. I go here quite a bit and am never disappointed with their food. They have a great menu with plenty of options and plenty of parking spots. read more

So dissapointed.....im a main-ah recently back in new england was up a couple of weekends back with co workers....excirrd to share my love of amotos.....maybe this location but....: Pros: got my gisnt jar of pickles....one i would make a former co worker stop and get 4 of while in VA(she has a son up near camden). Cons: everything from the sullen order taker guy to mr f'd up sub....blt with xtra picks (see above these are like crack for me)...toasted my roll which i hate....was not even asked....this location SUCKS! Going to be across the road again for work on 7/5....will be suggesting another known local mainer type place.....so disappointed...makes me sad read more

Always a great sandwich. Get them every year. Feels like the pickles are a.little less every year and they are what sets the sandwich apart but still this is the place for a good lunch that will make you think of Maine. Make sure you get the pickles. read more

Very friendly & helpful staff. Their prices seemed to be a little cheaper than other local pizza shops. We ordered a large half cheese/half pepperoni & fries. The pizza had good flavor & dough. Parking is plenteous & Amatos stays open a lot later than most local restaurants. read more

This Amato location is HORRIBLE. I have waited for many visits to see if they could change my mind, however every time they screw my order up (btw online order so it is black and white) or it takes 1 frickin' hour!!! I'm not getting luxury food here, if it's a long wait when I place it on reflect that. It's so simple. Save your time and if you want your order done right, go to Romeos, they actually complete your order as it was ordered and it is in a timely manner. Worst Amato's I have every been to in the entire state. To answer your question the time has passed to make it right. read more

My husband and I have been very frequent customers of Scarborough Amatos. It's on our way home and is only 4 minutes away. It's always been really great on our busiest nights when we need dinner and have no energy to cook. Unfortunately this location has gone way down hill. Every time we call they seem very put out to take my order. We, like many others have already said, have also had our orders messed up countless times. They also conveniently shut their ovens off an hour before they close so that all you can order is a cold sub. Who wants cold food for dinner especially in the fall and winter months when it's freezing out. Mind you, every other Amato's location keeps their ovens on until 15 minutes before they close. On many occasions I've had to travel 15 minutes to the south Portland one in order to grab dinner because the one 4 minutes from my house refuses to function past 9pm. I've already contacted them about it and they swore they would tell all the night shift that the ovens have to stay on until 15 minutes before close but it seems the employees don't really listen I guess. This location needs a serious overhaul considering how many people are saying the same things about their service. I genuinely feel bad for the manager of this store because I've spoken to him a couple times and he's very nice but just seems like the employees are terrible and not doing their job. read more
