Really disappointed by the level of quality and service at crown. I wanted to dye my hair prior to backpacking around Europe for 2 months. Originally I wanted blue, but the stylist said that this color had too much upkeep. I conveyed I wanted something that would last for at least 2 months on my trip, so she recommended a coral color, which was fine by me. The quality of the color was abysmal. My hair faded out with the first wash with color safe shampoo 3 days later. After the second wash, my hair was just bleached blonde and not at all what I wanted. Things happen, so although I was disappointed that I couldn't have the fun hair I was looking for on my trip, I wasn't that upset. I emailed the studio from Europe and they said they would help with a refund. After emailing back and forth for several weeks, they said they would finally issue a refund. However, it never happened and then the studio stopped replying to my follow-up emails. Really disappointed with the level of talent dying hair bold colors, but even more disappointed by the lack of customer service. Look elsewhere if you are looking for a studio you can trust. read more

I don't know what to say because it's wigging me out having the picture of my haircut as their temporary Yelp cover picture, so I feel like it's bad form to say something negative when I'm the literal face of Crown right now. I'll start with this. 500 Seneca is a maze. Do not do what I did and think you can find things by powering through. No, read the signs and follow the directions so you do not spend a good 10 minutes wandering down back halls past loading docks. Unless that's your jam. If you prefer clearcut instructions, then hear this: Google Maps will lead you to the wrong place. It is in 500 Seneca, which is most commonly accessed from Seneca St. You don't want that entrance. You want to drive around onto Myrtle Ave, till you've almost hit Hamburg St, then look for parking. They let their dogs wander around in the studio, so take note if you have allergies or fears. I appreciated that the prices were visible on the website but was disappointed that you couldn't book directly there .I had to call to see about availability. And while they could see me that day, I'm a millennial - I don't like phones. I had a good chat with the individual who did my hair, and may go back and give them another shot, but I went in because my ends were split so I needed a trim to bring it up. She missed many of the split ends going with the estimated length I gave her. I would hope that whichever professional I see would feel comfortable overriding me to at least say "this will not get all your ends. Would you like to continue or go shorter?" That way I have a choice rather than being disappointed the next day when I realize. Best two things I can say about the service: (1) Good music selection without a TV or other distraction blaring in the background. (2) The first - I repeat: the first - wash basin at a hair salon that hasn't hurt my neck trying to fit into. So super comfortable! Best haircut I've had in years. I had a very specific vision in mind (along with a photo), and Karen was able to absolutely nail it. She took off minimal length (I can still pull it into a teeny tiny ponytail when needed) but gave me volume (I have a lot of hair) by thinning things out. I appreciated that she went a little long on the bangs (giving me a chance to yay or nay going shorter) and really enjoyed chatting with her (a fellow true crime fan!). Sadly I wanted to love this salon, as the people are nice and within the vicinity, but my experience was subpar. I'll start by saying that yes, I have dark Asian hair, a nightmare for some. But I've had my hair platinum blonde multiple times in the past 15 years. I always preface a new salon with the fact that I have Asian hair when I make an appointment, and will repeat it again when I first sit in the chair, along with what's been done to it, to give them a chance to say they can't make me all blonde within 2-3 sessions. Marissa started out by foiling my hair, which was fine since we wanted to even out the color for the second session. I wasn't in love with it, but I could wait a month. She informed me we would do my whole head the next time so it'd be all blonde. Our second session, she ended up foiling my hair leaving some out, as I thought she was weaving through to grab the dark hairs. Unfortunately, I saw strands of my natural hair scattered throughout, all the way down to the ends. I said midway through "I hope this'll get my hair all blonde...". And she reassured me. I will be clear: I never asked for highlights, I asked for full blonde, as blonde all over as she could get it. Now once the bleach was processed, she put in toners and walked away for 30 minutes without checking in on it. The top of my head was pretty red--my unfavorite color nonetheless. She decided to try a cooler toner for another 30 mins, and put in a retail mask on the ends that I really didn't want, but that's fine. Though, she did check up this time on the cooler toner processing. As she was washing it out, she said my third session would be balayage to get the browns missed throughout. Not exactly what I wanted to hear after being there for 5 hours. And no, I didn't get a style or a cut. Just a color. Unfortunately by the end, the top of my head is red, which has never happened in my 15 years of bleaching and toning. My friend who sells their products was optimistic, but became very disappointed when actually seeing my red hair at the top, and said some stylists just don't know the colors well. C'est la vie. So $410 and 2 sessions later, I shouldn't be seeing my natural hair color pulling through my ends or red, when wanting to be all blonde. If I tie my hair back into a ponytail, it looks like my natural hair tinged in red, and light highlights at the ends. She wanted me to wash my hair the next two days and let her know how the red is. I do not enjoy washing my hair for a few days after my hair has been processed--especially after the amount of processing time this session took nor do I enjoy paying for color mishaps. I cannot bring myself to gamble away another $180~ + tip and 4+ hours to see how a 3rd session would go. I think if Marissa would've been honest about not wanting to do my whole head, or couldn't achieve what I wanted, or just referred me to someone else in the salon, I wouldn't be this disappointed in the service. I did give two stars as the hair wash was nice, and everyone there is nice. Overall, I wouldn't recommend spending the money and time with Marissa if you have any previous color, have dark hair, and want a full head of blonde. read more

This is one of the most amazing new spots in the city. It's right on the ground floor of the 500 Seneca building and it's such a gorgeous and modern space. Erin has hand-picked a team of the best of the best in the city. Everyone that is part of her staff is polite, kind, professional, and knowledgeable. I appreciate that crown's hair menu is gender-fluid and the hair cuts are long or short, not men's or women's. I have not seen anyone other than Erin for my hair in over ten years, and could not be more impressed with her new business. This is THE salon in the city to keep your eyes on. There are not enough words to explain how much I loved my experience at Crown, but I'm going to do my best. Since the beginning of summer, I've been trying to achieve that cool-toned, beautiful silver grey color that has become popular and my regular stylist just didn't have the means to make it happen. I, however, was bound and determined, so I called Crown. From the first contact with their receptionist, you could tell they knew what they were doing. She asked about he color of my hair, the length, how it had been treated in the past, and finally booked me in for an afternoon with Grace, estimating 3-4 hours of work. Because of the nature of the treatment, she did take a $75 deposit over the phone, to be applied towards the service. I've been waiting for about a month, and my day finally came yesterday. The salon is in the super trendy 500 Seneca building, there isn't a ton of signage and they don't have a street side storefront but I thought it was pretty easy to find. Once inside the building, there were plenty of signs to guide you to the salon itself. Everyone was so friendly and engaging, bonus point because IT. IS. DOG. FRIENDLY. and I got to hang out with 4 month-old Golden Retriever puppy Bogan. Grace was really enthusiastic about my hair goals, honest about what she thought we could achieve and explained everything along the way. Total spent in the chair? 5 hours. It was totally worth it. She did a fantastic job, recommended brands to help me keep the color up between touch ups and even sent me home with some extra color that she had over mixed. I thought the resulting price was incredibly reasonable for the amount of time and bleach she spent on me and I can't wait to go back. I'm pretty sure this is where I'll be coming for all of my hair services in the future. read more

Here's the deal: most reviews are based on a service. Mine is from an exceptional customer service experience I had with the receptionist Steven yesterday. I walked in hoping to have a trim and blow out, but no one was available since everyone was busy with other clients. Fine, they could have said "another day" or "sorry"...instead, they got on the phone to 4 other salons locally and made an appointment for me to have same day service elsewhere and offered to have me come in next time. Hello wonderful humans of Buffalo! I know you all have many, many choices when it comes to salons. But let me tell you about the wonderful people at Crown Bflo! Let's start with the aesthetics: the hip, cool vibe of the salon is amazing. The music is an eclectic mix of awesomeness and there are pretty rad pictures (polaroids) hanging around the salon. The exposed brick and exposed vents give it an awesome industrial feel without it being obnoxious. Can someone please come to do this to my apartment? Let's talk about humans and doggos. You will usually see some pups gently gracing you with their presence. If you're not a fan of doggos, you will be once you come into this salon. Everyone here is so friendly and welcoming. Cara is responsible for my wonderful color. She took my hair to the next level with an amazing color job- cleaned up my roots and gave me such a pretty gloss to accentuate the summer vibe that is happening. I'm stoked to see what the fall has in store! Karen's cut took my very heavy, naturally wavy hair and calmed it down. I have an asymmetrical cut and it had gotten a little bit out of control. The team feels you feel welcome and comfortable whether there for a 1 hour cut and style or a 2 hour extension application. From personal experience I have to recommend Chelsea who has given me the most natural, luxurious color that I have ever received. Add the style and I feel amazing. Erin is a goddess! When I thought about extensions she spent the time explaining options and answering all of my questions thoroughly, expertly and graciously. Every single person here knows how to do hair! From cuts to color, this edgy shop is free of bullshit and incredibly welcoming. All of their stylists are talented and get their client's hair to their client's vision- whether it's in one visit or several to achieve your color dream. Good music, art, and friendly dogs are also a part of the Crown crowd. I think the best part is that they are so community oriented- supporting other salons and even partnering with musicians, DJ's, and event spaces to do fundraisers for the local LGBTQ community. After years of growing my hair out I decided I finally wanted fringe. I know that's not a huge deal but it was for me. I don't feel like the stylist really listened to my ideas. It was very rushed and too short. I didn't like the cut and asked for a bit more edge. Resulting in short bangs and embarrassment. There was nothing she could do to fix it. Finally I got the haircut that I know looks best for my texture of hair. This is the third cut I had in 3 weeks trying to achieve a good cut for my curly/wavy hair. I was so unsatisfied with the last cut I took a chance, read the reviews on Crown and made an appointment. The stylist was not afraid to cut it in layers like I insisted from the previous hair stylists. My hair falls into place beautifully. I've had several compliments on the cut and inquiries about where I had it done. The atmosphere there is relaxed and pleasant as well. My experience at crown was nothing short of 5 stars!! The team they've built at this salon is top notch and some of the best in the industry. I have long, thick, wavy, frizzy hair and whenever I get it done elsewhere, hair stylists do not know how to handle it. After leaving crown BFLO I felt like a million bucks and for the first time didn't feel the need to rewash my hair and re-do it! Grace did my color and is an absolute perfectionist! Not even an hour later they tell me they're super behind and they can't get me in today. Mind you, I was going to just walk in because it says walk ins welcomed.
