I couldn't be happier that I made the switch! Michaela really took the time to understand what I wanted to do with my hair color and talked me through each step of the process. Of course, any change of color cant happen in one session, but after just my first appointment my hair already looks so much closer to my natural color. Michaela is really skilled and she offered great conversation over the length of my appointment! Went here a few months ago for a balayage. Kayla was nice but seemed like she was in a bad mood or just not very sociable. She did a good job but wasn't super accommodating or anything and it was pretty expensive compared to other places I've been. Basically, the result was good but I wasn't really comfortable here to be completely honest. I did make an appointment a few years ago (I don't remember who did my hair) and had my hair colored and it was a really risky color change so it wasn't her fault at all, but I ended up going back and getting it fixed and they were really nice about it and the stylist was really friendly as well. read more

I have visited one other salon in Buffalo before and I saw a stark difference between that one and Smith & Co. Although it was a little hard to get an appointment (they are very busy), I ended up getting very good service once I was there. I went there for a haircut and some highlights and my hairdresser, Michaela was absolutely wonderful. She's friendly, understands what you really want (take a picture with you of what you want if you can) and really delivers. She explained the process to me step-by-step as she was doing it so I could make changes if needed. My first time coming here. The stylists are soooo friendly. I can't emphasize it enough. They made me feel right at home. My stylist was Hannah and she is AMAZING!. She's super bubbly and she will give you the most beautiful hairstyle ever! Her suggestions are great and she will make you look fabulous as ever! She will listen to your ideas and will make you feel as comfortable as possible. I must have chatted with her for a good hour. It made my hair dye experience even more memorable. The shop itself is very cozy and bright. Very clean and small. But, each stylist has his/her own unique sense of technique, but they are super accommodating. The waiting room is cute and organized, with perfectly laid out magazines, lollipops/mints, and a coffee machine :) I decided to go for an ash-blonde hair color. It's very subtle (because I had black hair), and it looks super soft in the sunlight :) I love itttt! For what it's worth, I will definitely be coming back here again for color touch-ups :) The only downside is the commute :( it's about a 10-15 minute drive from UB campus to Williamsville. As a student who doesn't have a car, it makes traveling more difficult. But overall, this is one of the best salons at Buffalo ! read more

I had the worst possible experience with Michaela. I came in for a few balayage highlights, just to refresh existing highlights, I left with no highlights. I don't even know how...how she was able to dye my hair a light mousey brown! No money piece, no pretty blonde anything- just light brown everywhere - lighter than the roots I came with! She blow dried my hair and I said, "I don't see any highlights." She was very nice and said she agreed. She put in foils (not what I wanted). Ok, if she's more comfortable with foils let's try it. She blow dries a second time NO HIGHLIGHTS she kept toning them out to nothing! Now my hair has been double processed, three hours later, she bleached the black shirt I was wearing but not my hair! I said, "I don't see any highlights!" I tried to be nice hoping to pay, leave and possibly get the owner to fix this another day. I sent multiple emails with pictures of my all-over-brown hair! Michaela called offering to redo, but how in the heck can I trust her? TWICE with no highlights! Know, I've had highlights many times in my life, there's nothing wrong with my hair. I don't know if she was impaired or what? I declined her help and got a refund. I cry when I look in the mirror, my hair still feels brittle or wrecked. I wish the owners had reached out. I'd still be willing to show Shawn and Jennifer my hair, to see it is to believe it!! Don't go to Michaela. read more

Went to get my hair cut and dyed and it was my first time ever coloring so I was a little nervous. Hannah looked at my ideas and helped gear me in the right direction (I asked for her opinion since I had no clue) and assured me it was nothing to worry about. My appointment with Michael Hancock; The most horrific experience ever. Went for partial highlights in the back and blend in the roots on my fresh frontal highlights. I got 2 inches of black roots after the first application, I was terrified. It looked like I haven't done my roots in 6 months. Than a color removal that turned my entire root part red. The back was still really dark and asked for highlights which I asked for to begin With and was assured that the fading color it's going to resolve that issue. Skeptical, I waited.After a toner I was ready for a blow dry. My hair was sticky at the end and looked like it hasn't been washed from bleach. The owner agreed it still has color in it and needs to be washed again. (After I spent time to do a blow dry.) one more wash and a second blow dry, my hair was still wet at the roots and asked to be dried and flat ironed. It looked freeze and overall terrible 6 and a half hours later my hair it's all spots and orange. The back is a nightmare. It's going to cost me a fortune to fix it, which is the worst part. I didn't have to pay for the service which wasn't worth anything but I'm still loosing money overall. I just want to cry. read more

Jennifer did a amazing job on my hair color with a mixture of highlights and balayage. My hair color came out so well. She specializes in blondes and you can tell. The color is so bright and amazing. I recently came to SMITH+CO to try something new with my hair. I don't get my hair done or colored very often but sometimes you just need a change. I had such a great experience here from start to finish, I knew right away I could trust my mop in Bunny's hands! The waiting area has magazines, coffee, and I was offered a mimosa - i instantly knew i picked the right place :) everybody just generally seemed to be very friendly and to be in a good mood here. To start; booking appointments is super easy to do online, and you can see their pricing. I hate when places don't include their price and you have no idea what to expect! Parking is also super easy since they have their own lot. I think its awesome how close they are to Glen Falls, I've never been so I'll definitely take advantage of that next time I'm there. The decor is all fantastic, its rustic but chic at the same time. Also this is the first place I've ever been where the sinks are actually comfortable and don't kill my neck (I have a lot of heavy hair). Bunny did an awesome job on my hair, she's great at communicating and genuinely wants you to just be happy with your hair. She is very passionate about her profession, and also knowledgeable about products to fit your hair type and gave some great suggestions. I usually go to another salon but I was recommended by a friend to try this place and I am so glad I took the plunge! I had a haircut with Jennifer. First off, I loved the ability to book online. This was meant to be! After losing my friend/stylist I searched but after 2 cuts the new people weren't quite right. I scanned Yelp & this salon had such great reviews & the reviewers were so real - authentic. Yes I live in Chktg & it's on Delaware downtown but take the 33, & get off, take Edward & it's a R between Edward & Virginia. Took like 15 mins. To get there. Beautiful boutique style building & parking was great! I have to use a cane --- yay, NO STEPS to get inside. Immediately met by one of the stylists & led to chair where Michaela, my beautiful stylist met me. She was an angel who took every step to make sure it was safe for me not to fall. She was outstanding w my hair. I had a genuine consult & she asked all my thoughts. She offered some suggestions. We worked together. My hair looks sexy & falls beautifully. Let me just give some background so I can explain the 2star rating; my hair is extremely thick and there is a lot of it no matter the length. Plain and simple my hair is difficult. The first time received a haircut was last maybe last year and I'd been trying to grow it out from having short hair due to another bad haircut! I The woman was nice but not too friendly but not unfriendly. I wanted an."A-line" like an angled haircut but didn't get that so I complained about it to her and then she never showed for the appointment so Shawn fixed it and I loved it! I felt great and confident. So I get another cut but making sure it's from Shawn. I put my trust in him and thought I could relax. Told him that all of my haircuts have been a disaster, all they ever do is put several layers in it, when I tell them anything but! When I walked out of that salon that day I did not realize what he'd done. After asking for a trim and to thin.out the ends so it's not so thick, so it's not bulky. One maybe two layers would have been ok but several inches were cut off. Several inches! And I had several layers. I paid a lot for it and even tipped stylist, bought product and then scheduled and paid for a Karitin treatment. I emailed them a couple times. I never was contacted. I'm not a redicilous person. I'm pretty reasonable. I'm extremely dissatisfied and disappointed. I'm getting a refund on the upcoming appointment and thinking about leaving them for good. read more

I am trying to grow out my hair... I'm mean trying!!! So hard! Anyway... I used to go to Tonic which all of the staff of Smith & Co used to work at, although I never had them as a hair stylist. I left Tonic a while ago and have been on the hunt for a great new hair stylist. Well I found it! Jen has been nothing but great. First of all, the salon is very cute. Not big or overwhelming. It's got a rustic chic vibe, all the staff is friendly and very welcoming. Jen is helping me grow out my hair but cutting it just right so that it doesn't look super bad during the transition. They use quality products including R+co which I love. I am also very happy that they do not "get mad" or have anything to say, the fact that I go somewhere else to get my hair colored. Nothing against them, but I have been very happy with my colorist for a long time, but if for some reason she was not able to color my hair anymore, I have no hesitations in letting Jen color my hair. I debated writing this review but I rely on yelp to point me in the right direction for most things so I feel like I should write a quick bit about my experience. I arrived 15 min early and was happy w/ the decor/ambiance while waiting. There were 3 stylists and 1 staff member working. proceeded to sit there, waiting, for over 45 minutes- only one stylist was with a customer and I assumed she was my stylist. The rest of them were in the back room. I went to the back room and asked how much longer it might be, they seemed surprised and unaware that I had been waiting. The staff/asst took over blow drying the customer's hair and I finally met my stylist. She was really nice, welcoming, and I felt like I was in good hands. Fast forward to the end of the visit- the blond highlights are average at best but nothing to complain about. The haircut makes me cry everyday! It is the absolute WORST. The layers are blunt and unflattering. She did a little dry cut at the end to help angle the hair towards my face but it just didn't work out. If you really wanted to go here as I did (for convenience) then I would try the gentleman stylist. read more

This salon is super cute and well decorated (plus they have mimosas). The entire staff is welcoming and friendly, which you can tell right from the beginning. Hannah is amazing. She's a great listener, gives good advice, isn't pushy, and makes sure you love the end result. Ultimately - she's everything you'd want in a hairdresser. I really wanted to like this salon. I really enjoyed the vibe, decor and location.. unfortunately, my hair was a complete mess after two appointments there (second appointment with another stylist to fix the first appointment), I really wanted a beachy blonde natural look.. something low maintenance for summer. I had grown my natural out for 4+ months and wanted some simple balayage with face framing but keeping the majority my natural color.. unfortunately, I was left like harsh, blunt lines, and orange bands.. I was bummed. The salon isn't cheap either so I thought the results would be better. I'm bummed and it cost me over $200 elsewhere to "fix" it and get it the multi tones out.. and now my natural is barely there. Ugh, I'm so bummed. read more

Fantastic. Jennifer has done my hair multiple times now and I've never left disappointed. She's friendly, patient, and always understands what I'm trying to explain regarding what I want. Her haircuts are great and I've been extremely satisfied with both blonde balayages she's done for me. Online booking is also convenient. The salon itself is cute, bright, and has ample parking, which is great for a location in the village. All the stylists are personable and professional and do equally amazing hair as Jennifer. I am torn about this review because, well, because the staff at this salon was very friendly. They did a really great job coloring. The cut is terrible and nothing like I asked for, even after showing a picture of what I wanted. Salon itself was cute but spending 3 hours in a freezing, loud, and uncomfortable salon is not my idea of enjoyable. When I finally got to my car I noticed hair dye all over my neck, ears, and severe straight lines around my hairline on my forehead. Wth? I paid too much money to be so disappointed.
