I am pretty sure I just had dessert (instead of breakfast). I ordered Banana Foster French Toast. 2 slices of French toast (4 halves) with a scoop of vanilla ice cream covered in a sweet sauce and warm bananas topped with whipped cream. Sooo good! Service was as sweet as the food. It was a bit on the pricey side for breakfast, but once and a while it's okay to splurge. Plenty of street parking available. read more

I've only been here for dinner, but every time I have the service and food has been amazing! This place is unbelievably reasonable in their prices, especially for being in Coronado. We ordered the crab cakes to start and they were the best crab cakes I've ever had. Fresh crab and this amazing sauce that comes on the side is indescribable. I also ordered the soup of the day which was curried potato. Oh.My.Goodness I wanted to take gallons of it home it was so amazing! During fall they have a pumpkin bisque that occasionally comes up as the soup of the day and it's to die for. Dinner we order the lamb shank which was one of the specials of the day. I'm not a huge fan of mushrooms but I had one with the lamb and I ate all the mushrooms on the plate! If you don't like lamb I also recommend the Shrimp Pietro; I've had that twice and the brandy cream sauce the shrimp is served in could basically be a soup for me it's that great. The wait staff is very nice and came to check on us frequently to make sure everything was going well. Will 100% be back again! Need to come in for breakfast someday! read more

I am really surprised by the positive reviews for this restaurant. The food was mediocre at best and the staff was downright awful. I have never experienced more rude and snobby people in my entire life. If you aren't deemed "worthy" then they will be extremely condescending and treat you like they are better then you. I recommend avoiding at all costs. read more

I will never eat at an establishment so disrespectful of its customers. On Mother's Day, Crown Bistro decided to implement a special, limited menu. This is problematic by itself, since it went unannounced on the website and was not clear during the table wait that the restaurant was not offering its full menu. But the greatest insult to the customers came from an upcharge over their regular menu for the same items. It's such a privilege to eat at Crown Bistro to be offered a limited menu and pay more for it. There are many other fantastic breakfast places in Coronado that value their customers; go anywhere else. read more

Oh my goodness, what a find. We looked at the Bistro menu online and thought take out might be a little challenging, but this restaurant pulled it off flawlessly. The dishes we ordered were plated beautifully or more correctly boxed up for us with love and care. We waited about 20 minutes to be seated, which was great considering it was a holiday weekend (7/5) and everywhere in Coronado seemed to be packed. It took about 10 minutes for the server to come by and when we wanted to order a sandwich, we were informed because it's a holiday weekend, they aren't doing lunch, which really doesn't make any sense to me. We were right next to a hostess or server for 30 minutes and they didn't once mention it. As my wife can't eat eggs, we had limited options and both went with lox and bagels platter. The lox were great but everything else including the bagel and other toppings we're unremarkable, especially at a near $18 price tag. We would maybe try this place again next time we're in Coronado, but it definitely will not be the first option. read more

My husband and I went here for the first time last evening, for our wedding anniversary. After reading some great reviews, we decided to try it. We were lucky enough to get a little table inside and there were no other customers there. I'm sure outdoor seating will be required again due to the pandemic. From start to finish, it was a fantastic meal. Our waiter Jorge went above and beyond to make us feel welcomed and comfortable, starting off with complimentary glasses of bubbly. We shared two appetizers, I had a salmon entree while my husband had chicken. The food was fresh and very flavourful. The night ended with a complimentary dessert as well. Not one complaint! Nice little place in Coronado if you want breakfast. You can sit outside under an umbrella and enjoy the scenery. The food is good, but a bit out dated. The dinner menu needs a complete overhaul but the owner Laura doesn't want to change anything, it's a tribute to her late husband and chef Jerry. Every restaurant needs to revamp their menu every couple of years, looks like this one hasn't changed in a decade. read more

Fabulous Food, charming location and outstanding customer service! Laura, Edgar, Mattie and lovely Sophia offer Outstanding Customer Service. My husband is a special needs individual and they go out of their way to accommodate our needs. They not only meet our expectations; but exceed them time and time again. As a concierge at a major resort in Coronado, I have dined all over San Diego County and Crown Bistro is my all time favorite place to dine for breakfast! The food is delicious and in addition to their full menu they offer at least 7 specials! Dishes such as peach stuffed French toast, blueberry pancakes, artichoke heart omelettes, to name a few. Went here for a later breakfast; we ordered the fresh banana+ strawberry French toast topped with chocolate chips, eggs & hashbrowns, napolitano. Toast was super yummy! Napolitano was small portion, at least for my husband who eats more than I do if it weren't for me ordering French toast he wouldn't of filled up. Overall pretty good food & service. Only negative is how small it is and how small the tables can be, at least inside. read more

To start off we made a reservation and that did nothing as we still had to wait 10min. After getting seated they provided us with water that tasted odd. Don't get it twisted though food was immaculate! Cant complain about that although it took a while to receive the food it was worth it. Presentation on the food was beautiful. Very clean and nice. Great breakfast here and a dog friendly patio! The highlights were the homemade raspberry jam and the mimosas flight! Jam is on the table to use generously (thank you!) and the flights were tasty and beautiful- sour apple, watermelon and blue curaçao. I had eggs and corned beef hash and wheat toast that was hearty and dense. Hubby had crab Benedict that was fantastic! Service good and patio comfortable. Drawbacks: on busy orange Ave and shredded hash browns (they typical frozen style). Despite that I would most definitely return and would like to try lunch or dinner. Came here to have brunch with some family and it's a little cafe attached to the hotel. I got the crab jack omelette special and added artichokes. The cheese was delicious and it was filled with fresh veggies and avocados, but not quite sure about the crab. The toast was good, especially with the homemade jam and so was the sausage and hash browns. They had a lot of good options, especially for their specials and the prices and service were good as well. I would definitely recommend coming here if you're in Coronado and looking for a good breakfast/brunch. read more

This place is tiny with fabulous service and great food. We came early to avoid the wait. The hubby ordered the french toast with sauteed peaches.... DELICIOUS! It such a cute little place for breakfast/brunch in Coronado island. However, because of the small place, the wait can get long. They are connected with the hotel. So if you stay here, you can come here for breakfast which is so convenient. All the photos on yelp looked so delicious. My BF ordered the crown's special with eggs, choice of bacon or sausage, hash brown and a side of toast. I recommend to get the sausages because they are the BOMB! It was cooked perfectly and they give u 3 pieces of sausage. I ordered the banana foster french toast. I was really debating between this or berry one. Since so many yelpers posted this on yelp, I knew I had to try this one and save the other one for later! 4 pieces of french toast, topped with whipped cream and vanilla ice cream. In my opinion, it was a little to sweet because of all the syrup. This plate is huge! It is enough to fee 3-4 people. Great for sharing! I loved it but after eating almost half of this plate, I was getting tried of eating it. I love how they make their jams on the house! They put them in cute little maison jars. Jams taste pretty good and is not too sweet. Parking is street parking. It is a nice place to walk to the park which is like 3 blocks away after eating all these yummy calories! read more

This place was one of the cutest little restaurants I have ever been to. My friends and I were seated outside (because we asked to) and given our menus promptly. We were tourists and were looking for an all American kind of breakfast. The menu was very diverse and gave us a lot of options. I was in the mood for a little of everything and they definitely had dishes that had a little bit of everything. The service was quick and our waitress was kind and attentive. The missing star is due to its lack of vegan options. One of my friends is a vegan and she didn't have a lot of options. She ended up getting an oatmeal, which was good, but definitely not filling enough for the price. All in all, I would still go back if I was ever back in San Diego. read more

The food was fine. However, the service made this experience very unwelcoming. My wife, daughter and I waited about an hour to be seated after we checked in. We were told that we would receive a call when the table was ready. About 5 parties that arrived after us got seated and received their meals soon after. Not sure what the deal was. I would say maybe the staff wasn't trained but being In coronado I am almost certain I know what it was. read more

Erica at Host/FOH needs an attitude adjustment. As the front sign says "be kind to those that showed up"...be kind to your customers. We were quoted 40 min and it took over an hour to be seated. She ruined the entire experience and any possibility of tips for the servers with her attitude. read more

Nearly three decades ago, chef Jerry Tovar had the opportunity to purchase a quaint restaurant space nestled in the Crown City Inn on Orange Avenue. The cozy setting was perfect for the Tovar Family vision of a Coronado bistro where locals would become regulars; where consistently good food and a warm, inviting atmosphere brought patrons back again and again. Since its opening in 1994, the Crown Bistro has become just that. Both tourists and locals fi ll twinkling tables for cozy date nights with sumptuous food, and sit back under the happy yellow umbrellas for jovial Saturday and Sunday brunches. Many locals will tell you that this little bistro is one of the island's gems; perhaps even a celebrated relic in Coronado's ever-changing restaurant scene.

The next visit, we had the cold lobster roll with fries, blackened fish and chips. The lobster roll was so good! The buttered roll was delish! The blackened catfish was SUPER spicy! My husband loved it. On our last visit, we had the Manhattan clam chowder, the New England clam chowder, prawns & linguine, and the bouillabaisse. The chowders were so good. I could have just eaten those and been happy. If you can't decide between the two, they will give you half and half - mixed. The prawns were HUGE and tender. The sauce on the linguine was light and bursting with herby goodness. My husband loved the bouillabaisse which was full of fish, scallops, mussels, etc. The restaurant sits in Glorietta Bay which is just across the street from the Hotel del Coronado. It's very coastal in feel and decor. Hannah and Alec were our servers on both of the dinner nights. Both were excellent servers.

We grabbed a corner spot with a $175 minimum, easy to hit when the menu is priced like everything was flown in from Monaco. Water: asked three times, never came. The fourth time we finally got it, and only because the manager dropped it off himself after my husband spoke to him. Water is the bare minimum. It shouldn't feel like a favor. The food came out in five minutes. Five. That's not a kitchen, that's a heat lamp. Lukewarm at best, some of it cold. The giveaway: they brought us a kids' chicken fingers plate, realized we'd ordered the adult portion, took it back, then sprinted off to grab the bigger version. That's a steam tray with a hostess. And the lobster Cobb? The lobster was cut into little circles. Circles. Lobster has never been a circle. The servers moved around like expressionless robots. When my husband politely asked to speak with the manager privately, out of respect for the staff, the manager came over looking like he couldn't care less. Somehow the service got worse after that. He comped a burger and one other item. We still walked out near $175. The cherry on top? His apology was throwing his own employee under the bus. "Yeah, he's had a lot of complaints lately." That's not a manager. That's Gossip Girl with a clipboard. Be a leader. Handle it behind the scenes. This is exactly why the staff is the way they are because leadership comes from the top and if that's broken the whole operation is broken. We left and went to The Dive rooftop at The Bower Hotel. Sat down, and within a minute someone dropped off water. We sat there genuinely grateful, which is when it hit us how badly we'd been treated. Save your $175. The view is free!!!!!

Also, can't say I'm a huge fan of the tiny lettuce whenever I see it. Overall, this joint is not bad, but I can think of very little about it that stands out. I don't feel that it fully leans into being a sports bar or dive bar or even as a burger joint. It's just.....a bar. Apparently, it prides itself as being an original coronado spot, but I didn't get that kinda vibe here. I don't know.
