I really, really wanna love this place-but after my experience last night I would give this place zero stars if possible.
As I am generally an optimist, I'll start with the good. Very decent selection of draft beers. I also really love the fact that they offer some nice cocktails. Now, let's not g get ahead of ourselves, I've seen the word "mixologist" thrown around some of the reviews for this place and I have to disagree, if a carefully crafted cocktail is more your desire head to East Side Show Room, Haddington's, or La Condessa. But I appreciated that they offered something more than just well bevs.
Door guy/bouncer was super friendly and accommodating. He even helped restart the outside heater after it blew out. Thanks buddy!!
It's clean enough I suppose. Decor, what decor? You don't come here for ambiance, that's for sure-which is fine, I love a good dive.
So now comes the ugly part. *I would like to preface this next part with the knowledge that I work in the service industry-I know what it's like.
I asked to pay my tab for my one beer, (what? It's a Tuesday people-gotta work in the am.) sadly I had no cash on me. Barkeep #1 informs me of their $10 minimum policy, I asked if she could just charge me for the beer and what ever small fee to reimburse for the credit card fees-as I believe this is a customary procedure for most places (like .50-$1.00?). My tab comes.
I am charged $10.
For 1 beer.
Ok-deep breath-I wait for barkeep #2 (Gillian) to finish up with customer and I get her attention. I explain that I do not, in fact, want to pay $10 for one beer, and isn't it customary for there to be a smallish fee to make up for the fees the credit card companies charge small businesses? She gets surly. SURLY. Starts railing on about $10 minimums, and we told you about it, blah, blah, blah...I start to lose it a little but remaining calm I inquire if there is an ATM. She points me in the right direction, says she can void my tab. Yes, you need to do that.
I come back, cash in hand, and pay for my drink-and in doing so I apologize for possibly seeming irritated, but I just didn't want to pay $10 for a beer. I think that this is solid logic surly anyone could understand, right, RIGHT? I was giving her the benefit of the doubt-thinking that it wasn't HER crappy policy, but the bar's. And that perhaps she got snappy cause she felt like I was directing my irritation at her (I was not).
THIS IS THE POINT WHERE GIRL (GILLIAN) F***ED UP.
So after I apologize (which I formally rescind, BTW.) and pay with cash, SHE CONTINUES to talk AT me about their $10 minimum policy. WTF, dude! I get it, I get it. I tell her that I do NOT need to be lectured, she says she doesn't need to be lectured either (?didn't even make sense?) This was right at the point where I was potentially going to tip, in fact I think I had money dangling in my hand reaching for the tip jar, but she kept on going so nope,-for the first time in I-don't-know-how-long, I totally stiffed service folks and I'd do it again in a heartbeat.
NEWSFLASH, Dolly; last time I checked you don't work on commission so you keep on beating that $10 minimum drum, see where that gets you. I am a more than generous tipper but no way in hell will I be talked to like that and give you money to do so.
I'm not saying I'll never be back-but I will definitely think twice, and possibly thrice, about going back. This totally blows since I live South and they do have a nice patio. But you can more then bet it'll be many a moon before I step my little toe back in this place. (East siiide!)
After perusing other reviews it also becomes apparent that these girls love the dudes, but seem to throw attitude around to our fair sex-major lame town.
Also of note, ATM charges a $3 transaction fee. Boo. read more
