This is a great little diner with beautiful views next to the Payson Airport. We walked in for lunch today and it was a little humid and warm inside. That part was not awesome. We were shown pretty quickly to our table and given menus. The menu is decently sized and the prices are super cheap! Our waitress was a little dour (although not rude), but she was attentive and that's what matters. My husband got a chicken fried sandwich with a side of gravy, I got a BLT with a side of gravy, my mother in law got the beef dip, and my son got a giant pancake. The food was surprisingly good. I expected Denny's quality because of the prices, but it was definitely much better than that. We were all really pleasantly surprised. For dessert we all tried some pie. We got a peanut butter fudge, which was decadent and delicious. The banana cream was really good, but nothing exceptional. Last of all, blueberry. The blueberry had a delicious crust, but the filling was slightly too sweet for me. The food is perfect for something hearty after a day of activity, like a hike or something like that. I've eaten here a few times as a child so I thought why not stop in and try it as an adult! Right off the bat we were a little over whelmed. It's very congested by the entrance so we stood awkwardly waiting for a group of people to pass by and the host to see us. The dude who seated us straight up looked miserable. Like....damn dude. He looked like he hated life and didn't speak at all. Our waitress was friendly, but she sat with a regular for 10 mins talking about how stressed and unhappy she was before taking our drink order. The waitress was nice, she checked up on us frequently. The food was okay. My eggs had a hair in them, and the bacon was almost raw, so the waitress had it fixed right away. The new food came out super fast. The biscuits and gravy were good, very large serving. Same with the breakfast potatoes. The potatoes were unseasoned though, and very bland. Personally I thought the chunks were too large. What I thought was weird was the waitress dropped the check off as soon as we got the food which felt very rushed. We also got pie to go. I got banana cream. It was okay. For homemade pie I kinda expected more. My slice didn't have crust on the bottom. I love pie crust so I was let down. There were also peanuts on top, which didn't go well with the flavor of the pie. I think almond or walnut would go better. Over all I will not come here again. I heard regulars/Payson citizens talking poorly about my hair, which has nothing to do with the diner, but it just felt very unwelcoming to younger people who don't live in Payson. What a pleasant place, with very personable service, a great view of the runway and surrounding forested mountains, and the best vegetarian omelette I've ever had. The restaurant has been open in some form for over 40 years, a waitress told me when I asked. I've been visiting Payson for over 25 years and never knew it was there . It's just enough off of the beaten path. Get the feeling it's one of those little treasures that locals don't go out of their way to let the hordes of visitors that pass thru know about. They don't have signs or billboards, just airport traffic and word of mouth. They have all day breakfast, and also a lunch and dinner menu, and fresh baked goods. Looks like lots to choose from for meat eaters. Wish they had more vegetarian options... Veggie burgers would be nice. We came on a Sunday and they were closing at 3pm. Service was prompt & courteous , I had the chicken fried steak & eggs , Steak breading was so hard you couldn't cut it and the meat inside was no more than 1/8 inch thick, worst chicken fried steak I've ever had. The food was quite heavy and not very fresh. The chicken came out cold on the inside, hot on the outside. They corrected the problem but it wasn't that great. The location was nice and it was fun listening to the pilots coming in. read more

I give this restaurant a 3 because my.husband enjoyed his breakfast of bacon and eggs. I rate my lunch a 1 at best. I ordered the fish sandwich and asked for cheese to be added. No problem. We waited half an hour for our food and my sandwich was pretty much inedible. The hoagie roll it was served on was hard and old tasting, the fish itself was overdone and hard with thickish breading, and they made zero effort to melt the cheese so it arrived cold and flopping around on the plate. Are you ready?? That's the introduction that we received from our waitress. Then it went downhill from there. I told my husband about this restaurant and so we drove from Scottsdale on Sunday, to have breakfast and watch the planes come and go..that was the highlight. We ordered the French toast and the pancake combo. My husband's French toast was flavorless as were my pancakes. Pretty sure the pancakes were a water and flour mix. Both are eggs were not cooked as requested, but we ate only because we were starving and didn't want to wait for a revised meal. Best part, my husband ordered orange juice! Not freshly squeezed, but TANG! Yes, it was TANG! Water with a swish of the good old powder. Our waitress never came back to offer a refill on my coffee, but another waitress heard me mumble that I could use a refill and she promptly filled my cup. I really wanted to like this restaurant because some of my plane flying friends said it was good. But then again, they have access only to this restaurant. Next time, we will hit the restaurants on the Beeline. read more

Best views from any restaurant in Payson. You are sitting right beside the runway at the Payson airport with the definitive panoramic chaparral skyline. The friendly hostess and servers indulged the small town feel. Plenty of town history and modern photos decorated the walls along with a ceiling crowded with models of all manner of prop planes. And of course the food. Just enough grease to make it right. A fantastic patty melt, a juicy roast beef sandwich smothered with cheese, peppers and onions and beer battered onion rings worthy to accompany them. Topped off with a slice of chocolate cream pie just like the one salaciously stationed in the chiller by the door. Cool experience all around. read more

A delightful little American fare restaurant located at the tiny airport in Payson. The staff is so friendly, you are treated as if you were the neighbors just dropping in for lunch. The food is that hearty fare that fills you up and more. This is not a fancy place. You can sit and watch planes and choppers carrying on outside. I had a patty melt and it would hold up with anyone's. Cheesy, meaty, grilled onions, and it would hold up against anyone's. The onion rings were homemade and fine. Now to the next stop on American fare. The PIES! Wow! The selection of pies is insane. The pie of your dream is probably here. There was a cooler with a bunch of different crème pies, the fruit pies were in the back, and well the pie we had was lemon and it was a nice one. So next the gift shop squeezed into the lobby that was squeezed into the entry. Airplane like things with clocks in propellers, then hats and more. So one can shop a bit too. Rode up to Payson with one of my motorcycle riding groups - this was our first stop. We were seated pretty quickly especially given how many people there were in the place - it was nearly full. I started with a glass of tea and it was pretty weak. I was thinking - I just hope the food is good. Wow, was I in for a pleasant surprise. Not only is the food great, but it seems to be mostly home made. The quantities are huge, so be sure and order small - you can always order more if you are still hungry. I have eaten here several times and I am never disappointed. Breakfast is wonderful, ham and cheese omelet is really good, hash browns crisp, bacon just right. Now the Chili, that is another story, the chili is to die for, even my home made chili doesn't measure to the crosswinds, unbelievably delicious, the Ruben is equally as good. The pies are wonderful, love the atmosphere, staff is friendly, food is great the view is perfect, what more could a person ask for?? Almost forgot the onion rings, gotta try them. read more
