I had read some mixed reviews before eating here so I was a little biased. Fortunately, the rib shack did not disappoint! I decided to order take out and that process could have been a little smoother; however, the staff were great about covering each other's backs and my food was produced 15 min after I placed the order. There was an ambiguous up-charge of about $1 on a $20 order. Be sure to inquire if there is a cash discount or an automatic tip added for take out orders. Nevertheless, the meat was fall-off-the-bone tender and the sauce was a nice complement to the ribs. In addition, the sides were EXCELLENT. I ordered fried okra and French fries. Even after a car trip back to my hotel, they were delicious. As regards ambience, I found the environment up beat and positive while I waited for my order. This was the only non-chain place we could find open on a Monday night. They give first timers a rib to try & it's fall of the bone, well seasoned goodness confirmed my decision to go with the half rib plate. The Dry Rub Seasoned Ribs for my plate were just as good as the sample. There are Original, Sweet & Spicy versions of their sauce on the table. I only tried the original and it was pretty good but completely unnecessary. I really liked the Slaw. It was sweet but not too much so IMO. The Corn on the Cob was good but nothing special. The plate also came with Texas Toast which was pretty good as well. Overall food was really good, service left a bit to be desired. We were seated immediately but it took longer than expected to take our order, especially since restaurant was almost empty. They had shut down half the dining room already. Visiting my mom in Oxford from the West Coast, we had to drive over to Tupelo to pick up an item from the Best Buy next door. I always try to get BBQ a few times during my visits so saw this place nearby, one of the few open on Mondays. Ordered the brisket sandwich (meat, slaw, sauce, bun) which was perfectly yummy. Excellent friendly service and no wait at the drive through window (a plus with my mom in her 90s and Covid still killing over 10,000 per month in the USA at the time of this writing). Colleague wanted a barbecue dinner so we tried CrossRoads rib shack. She got a half a slab of barbecue baby back ribs which she said was smoky tender and juicy. I got the smoked chicken breast and baked potato. The chicken was a little bit dry but nice smoke flavor and their barbecue sauces were tasty. We had a girls day out in Tupelo and stopped here for lunch. What a cute place! We ordered some mozzarella sticks and fried green tomatoes both were delish! From there I ordered had the ribs and they were amazing fall off the bone ribs! They came with two sides i went with the standard coleslaw and baked beans. The food was good and a solid value. I'm pretty tough on bbq places in general, so a 4-star review is a VERY solid review for me. We had a very nice waiter but some of the other tables were grumbling about wait times. Still 3 adult lunches and 1 kids plate for less than $30 is a steal. This was the worst BBQ I have ever had. Matter of fact this was the worst dinner I have ever had. Service was fantastic. Whoever the pit master was needs a few lessons in brisket which was sliced point instead of the flat and was more like sirloin chewy as all get out. And the pulled pork...... come on a day 1 COOK can smoke pork butt. Oh and they wanted an extra $5 for any ribs rather it was 2 bones or a whole rack because of a shortage apparently? Tupelo's location was rude. We had called ahead of time and the said it would be a 15 minute wait. When we got here they said they got to busy ( in 7 minutes) and have to wait 30 minutes for a table. Once we set down at the table, it took forever to order our drinks and even longer to get them. We finally ordered food it took about 30 to 40minutes to get appetizers then about 10 minutes later we got food. We were there for a hour before we got our or food. What else is sad and infuriating is that 2 tables that arrived after 25 minutes after we first got there ordered, got drinks, eat and left before we got our food. Will not be back. DON'T EAT HERE! This NOT real barbecue. The ribs were tough, and not "fall off the bone" as they claim. The coleslaw was cloying sweet, needed Mayo, and lacked acid, and really gross. The baked beans tasted like they were paired right out of the can. Pulled pork was greasy, like they poured oil over it, and it was heavily shredded, not pulled. The smoked chicken breast meal tasted heavily of tenderizer, and liquid smoke. It was a pathetic, flattened, skinless frozen chicken breast. That was the only smoke flavor that any of the meats had was the chicken. Even the brisket was disappointing. The home cut fries were undercooked, greasy, and limp. The baked potato was so hard, I couldn't cut into it to add my butter. It broke my plastic fork. Which is another thing, this is a barbecue restauran, serving platters...Please provide real silverware for your customers dining in. I sent the potato back, and the second potato was cooked all the way through. The only thing that was good was the fried okra. Service was lacking, we had to ask and get the waitress's attention for everything that we needed, and left without getting one refill of any of our table's drinks. To us, it was a waste of money $$ and it wasn't even barbecue! GO to BISHOPS if you want decent barbecue. Truthfully, the best BBQ is in Kansas City or Memphis. read more

Was only in town for one night and place looked interesting. I know BBQ is a heated debate waiting to happen. I live in Memphis one of the greatest places to get your BBQ fix. Good barbecue. Solid offering. Sides were decent as well. I've had the pulled pork and ribs and both have been decent. Meat was quality. Sauces had a nice mix of vinegar and sweet. I have a hard time getting too descriptive about barbecue because you can take so many variations that it's hard to pick a clear winner. You can have a salty rub or a spicy or a sweet and none be particularly inferior to the others. So I tend to clump my evaluations into Worth Your Time and Not Worth Your Time. We really like Crossroads. Staff is normally sweet as can be. The only time they weren't is we got there 45 minutes before closing. For some reason our food came out in stages and some was forgotten so it took forever. There was a girl behind the counter giving us dirty looks and even rolled her eyes at us. Not comfortable. We stopped by on way back from Atlanta because of the high reviews but were sadly disappointed. Okay part 1) The service was adequate. Nothing spectacular but adequate. Food 2) Most of the food wasn't good. I ordered the chicken that was very dry and over cooked. My girlfriend also had a way overcooked baked potato that she couldn't finish. The baked potato also had tinfoil shards (plural) in it. Our french fries were good, though, and the ice tea was okay. I always compare ribs to my favorite @ Pappy's in St. Louis & these ribs rank right up there! These are deliciously dry rubbed and the meat fell off the bones onto my plate as I picked them up! The place for ribs! I had the combo plate with ribs and brisket. The ribs were wonderful the brisket mediocre. We had to send our beans back because they were cold... I don't eat cold beans. All three barbecue sauces were great. My girlfriend had the pulled pork plate and she said that the pulled pork was just alright. The ribs were the only thing to write home to Mom about.
