I'm not a big review writer BUT I've really enjoyed my time at CrossFitSun. I love love love Trainer Jen and her Strong Start courses. She is so warm and welcoming and she genuinely looks like she's enjoying what she's doing. It's not just a job for her but a joint journey through fitness. I am not athletic and had embraced my sedentary lifestyle for decades... until now. Through Jen's Foundation course and Build Together course, she's taught me the basics on how to get stronger, healthier, and athletically smarter. She touches on the science behind how and why we should do specific motions. Then demonstrates amazing examples on what poor vs correct techniques look like. She isn't shy to correct my form (but in a fun, encouraging way). Classes are small so you are guaranteed attention and personalized feedback. Guaranteed she is your #1 cheerleader through it all. I'm so happy with how far I've come in just a couple months. I've already signed up for her next cycle! Also, quick shout out to Trainer Leslie and her MomFit class! I dropped in on a few of these and this class is also great. Leslie has a keen eye on catching even just the smallest adjustments for improving your form. It's always a great time at CrossFitSun read more

I have been a CrossFit Sun member for over a decade. It's helped me maintain a healthy lifestyle over the years. I definitely feel the community is one of the main reasons why I keep coming back day after day. Over the decade, priorities and goals change. I joined Coach Leslie's Mom Fit class so I can get additional strength training in. Since starting earlier this year, I've increased lean mass by 3.8 lbs, as well as decrease my fat mass, visceral fat, and fat percentage. All measured by DEXA scans. If you're willing to put in the work, whether you're new to weights, experienced or have other goals, Leslie can lead the way. I've also had the pleasure of training with Coach Jen (aka Chloe). She's a Hyrox athlete and has set-up the Strong Start program for women. Foundations for those brand new and Build for those with more experience. read more

I've had many personal trainers in the past. Leslie has been my trainer for the past 4 years and I confidently say she is the best trainer I've worked with. She knows my specific goals and takes time to design our workouts to meet those goals. She pushes me to go above my comfort zone , but does so in such an encouraging way, and that's how I see results. I became much stronger since I worked with her, and much more confident in my ability to do other sports well without the fear of getting injured as I used to. She is the best and I am so grateful for her! read more

I've been working with Leslie at CrossFit Sun for about a year and a half now. She helped me transition from postpartum back into CrossFit, and now I'm hitting PRs in lifting. Whatever your goal may be (even if you need help figuring that out!), Leslie is amazing at tailoring to your individual needs. I've worked with her on Personal training, MomFit, Spartan training, and powerlifting training. Beyond the numbers, Leslie creates an incredibly supportive space, both with her personal and community training sessions. Her MomFit classes connect moms at all levels of fitness. Our goals might look different, but at the end of the day we're all repping the same reps together. I highly recommend coaching with Leslie (and CrossFit Sun for classes!) if you are looking for a positive environment to reach your fitness goals and realize your own potential while having fun doing it! read more

Jen is awesome!! She makes every workout fun and keeps me motivated. She's very knowledgeable and explains everything clearly, which makes me feel more comfortable and confident in the gym. Highly recommend the Strong Start program! read more

I joined crossfit out of necessity as an aging Asian petite woman that is at risk for osteoporosis and bone fracture. I know that weight bearing exercises are crucial for building bone strength and maintaining bone health. Coach Jenn is pivotal at introducing strength workouts that are scaffolded to help someone new like me to lifting. Her intentional approach combines both clear technique demonstrations and purposeful design of curriculum that is uniquely suitable to my personal needs. I am so grateful for the chance to build upon my health under her guidance and to improve my overall health. Thank you to coach Jenn and the Crossfit community of very encouraging and accepting athletes of all ages! read more

Big shout out to Jen and her Strong Start program! I was always intimidated with any type of strength training or weight lifting, and Jen has been such an encouraging, patient, and knowledgeable coach! Starting with the basics and building a foundation on form has been a big game changer. She is amazing and genuinely cares about your progress. Jen is also starting additional programs for others who are on more intermediate levels. She's an inspiration, and I highly recommend her classes! read more

Fix Fit classes are amazing!! Its a place to learn Functional fitness and then apply it to your daily workouts. Learning Coach Marks techniques has been life changing. Its helped me to build confidence and knowledge in my lifts at the gym and in my work place. His teaching techniques have helped me prevent injuries in and outside the gym. And let's not forget the Kids PE classes. My nieces and nephews have loved these classes. My nephew lost 20lb within a few months and felt more confident than ever. The workouts helped him prepare for football and helped him get out of the Pandemic blues. Coach Leslie is amazing and the kids LOVE her. She knows how to make them smile and sweat - all while having fun!! Overall, Don't be intimidated to try - you may find that it quickly becomes the best part of your day!! Crossfit Sun has been one of my top 5 reasons why I love San Diego. I encourage you to try them out and see if that is the same for you!! CrossFit Sun has been a daily routine for me for a while now. The difference it has made for me has been greatly rewarding! One of my goals joining CrossFit was to be able to carry my kids with ease and be able to do physical activities with them as they grow. I have been able to continue with my goal thanks to the CFS coaches and community. All the coaches are very helpful whether it's your first time doing a workout and might be worried about form or injury, to taking yourself to the next level, they are there to guide you. The coaches have different styles on how to encourage you to continue to get fit. Ernest's friendly but firm encouragement. To Deej's get your butt in gear! In addition, Mark (Owner) takes the time to have 1 on 1's with anyone who has questions, understanding your form to prevent injury or just to have fun. He constantly shares videos to all CFS members to help with the different exercises. To anyone interested in getting fit, go check out CrossFit Sun and see what their team and the community is all about! That is all... read more

Day 1....the hardest thing to do is start and to remain consistent! I've started off going x2-3 a week....but kept coming!!! I'm now up to x5-6 a week and competing in sprint-tris. The work can be hard but the rewards are immeasurable! The community is encouraging. The coaches make the movements doable for the every day Joe or the hardcore athlete. This place has truly helped me get in the best shape of my life!!! read more

My wife and I were members at this box for a year. This is a great gym for a few reasons: The coaches are 100% themselves all the time. Most of the members have been going there for more than a decade so the community is solid and super welcoming, and there aren't any cliques or "you can't sit with us" types which I really liked. Mark really strives to be a master of his craft, you can tell he puts in the time to learn new things outside of the gym. Also, I learned a few things that I have never heard of at my old box/dropping into other CrossFit gyms. It's a great CrossFit gym. I definitely recommend dropping in and learning a thing or two. read more

I've really enjoyed being part of this community for the past 2 years. I was lacking motivation to go to a regular gym on my own and was hoping that I would be more dedicated to my health and fitness by being part of structured classes. I didn't know much about CrossFit at the time and was a bit apprehensive about trying something new while not being in the best of shape, but I am so glad I decided to join CrossFit Sun!! Here are some of my top reasons why you should also give it a try: 1) Top notch coaching. The coaches are very good at accommodating and supporting all fitness levels. Whether you are new to CrossFit, a seasoned athlete, coming back from an injury, old or young, they are able to make sure everyone's needs are met. They are also constantly learning new ways to improve our movements, prevent injury, and recover from injury (ask Mark Sun about FixFit! Instagram @marksunfixfit). 2) Variety of workouts. The variability in classes keeps you coming back for more! You get the opportunity to learn new skills, such as weightlifting and gymnastics movements. Being able to modify these movements also makes it less intimidating while still feeling the challenge! There is always a good balance between warmup, skill work, a workout, and cool down. Classes are also offered at convenient times during the day to accommodate different work schedules. 3) Supportive community. Last but not least, you become part of a really fun community! You not only build bonds with the other people that regularly come to the same class, but also with the wider community through weekend events, potlucks, fundraisers, and other get-togethers. CrossFit Sun's motto of #communitydriven couldn't be more accurate. There is always something going on at CrossFit Sun! I hope that convinces you to come check out CrossFit Sun. You won't regret it! read more

So..... I promised a year ago that I would be back to this awesome and amazing box.. and I kept my promise!! Came back to CFS this time with the hubbie. He's done xfit at another box a few years ago. He told me stories about how people puked at this other gym and how much they really worked you to death. He stopped going because he was injured half the time and because it was too expensive. He ABSOLUTELY LOVES CFS. He loves the community. He loves the coaches. He likes how they now have the academy to teach you the basics and gradually introduce you to xfit. He especially likes how the coaches always emphasize form and proper technique over anything. With the tons of members that have since joined, it meant the world to me that Mark (the owner) remembered my name when I returned. It's really a small thing.. but it means so much to come back to a group of people.. a community.. and really be welcomed back. We've now successfully completed academy.. attended our first Barbells for Boobs event.. and started our couples membership (with Day 1 = Fight Gone Bad and Day 2= Grace). Both hubbie and I love CFS, and we hope to be members for a long time. This is truly a fun and supportive community. Special recognition to Deej -- our super fun 6AM academy coach. :) We already miss training with him. If you're looking to give crossfit a try and you're looking for a gym that won't scare the shit out of you, encourage and teach you, and really make exercise fun... definitely come check Crossfit Sun out!! Feel free to PM if you have any questions. Definitely recommend and will absolutely be back! read more

Out of the 4 crossfit gyms I've been a member at and 20+ gyms I've dropped into throughout the years, CrossFit Sun has the best: 1) Community. Pretty much every crossfit gym I've belonged to or dropped in at says they have great community. While that's not been my experience at every gym, a great community certainly has been my experience at CrossFit Sun. I felt welcome from the very first day, and like part of the 7am crew within the first month. 2) Focus on proper movement / technique. Coaches at CrossFit Sun teach people how to activate the muscles they'll need for the workouts, and spend sufficient time warming up, before starting the clock. They prioritize functional fitness and longevity over going all out on a lift or WOD just for the sake of it. read more

Before selecting a CrossFit gym, I was looking for a place that: 1) Focused on correct movements 2) Had a great family-friendly atmosphere, a positive culture and great team-building environment 3) Changed up the WODs often and were constantly improving 4) Gave back to the community 5) Super rad people I'm so glad to say that CFS has all of that! I love the people here - Mark is constantly focusing on continuous improvement, Andrea is great at keeping track of everything, Deej is amazing at pushing us to be our very best (even if there's lots of pain involved... it's mostly out of love), and Leslie is passionate, kind and very driven! I am very grateful for the 6:05 crew I get to be a part of and love. I laugh every day I'm there, I lift better than the day before, and I am joyful to have found great friendships. These people rock. Try CrossFit out - you won't regret it!! read more

This facility does not feel like your typical gym. Everyone here is like family. Mark is amazing, he helps you with pain. I was going to a chiropractor weekly. After only 2 sessions with Mark, I haven't felt the need to go anymore. I would give 10 stars if available. read more

I came here on a whim and web search. Made friends for life! New to the area, the members and staff of the gym made me feel welcome immediately! I was able to modify any movements into something I could manage and still feel badass! After 3 days I knew this was my gym. More than fitness!! Mark, DJ and friends are making a point to build the community up around them and it starts at their own front door! I came here a month after my 49th birthday. I was fat, I was lethargic, and I was lost. Two years later I am LITERALLY in the best shape of my life (at 51 no less!). I'm stronger than I've ever been. I'm bigger than I've ever been. And I feel the best I've felt in 20 years. More importantly, however, is I found a community. A place I can go every day to lock out the world for an hour or so and focus on making myself a better human. Both physically and mentally. No judgement. No negativity. Just support and motivation. I can't recommend this place enough! read more

I have 2 Yelp friends who got me to try out CrossFit Sun in Carmel Mountain Ranch. They are quite literally a stone's throw (a hard throw) away from Frog's Fitness if you know where that is. I have been doing it now for over 2 weeks and I think I will stick with it. Maybe I will be able to stick with it permanently. I can tell you this about Crossfitters that you may not read here or other places: they are not crazy, but they are dedicated. Seriously. If you want to work on your dedication and tenacity skills, a good way to see about how to get a grip is to go here, or even most other CrossFit gyms. What we do in our workout days (wods) is almost always hard or very hard. It is what the Head Coach Mark likes to call "fun and easy." Do not think you will go home each time with a faint "glow" of perspiration. You will need to hydrate. You will breathe a lot and fast doing wods here. The good news: you are paying (in full) the tax to go to Claim Jumper afterward! They have a good mix here. About half women and half men. Most of the men are married and bring their wives or girlfriends too to be part of the fun. We have high school and college students and military (guys...nice) and pro athletes and doctors. They have a "kiddie class" too,but I have never seen it. The wods' repetitions count is high enough that I am not getting muscle size or mass (everybody worries about this one) just getting long and strong, and doing so faster than pilates for sure. Getting cardio better than an elliptical can give. I think that the working muscle repairing itself each night is a great way to burn calories: while you sleep. ;) Upside: I am shredding calories, making friends with cool people, staying really healthy for summer apparel. Downside: CrossFit costs more bucks than you are used to for a commercial gym membership. Reason: Intensive group coaching by as many as 3 great coaches with every session. That adds up in a month, even though it is less than a typical P.T. for 2 hours. If you can live with that and do the work, you will dig it. read more

I promise that CrossFit Sun will change your life. How do I know? Because it changed mine. And of course it was for the better! I never considered myself the "workout" type. After years of overeating and not being active, I moved to San Diego; I started running and lost some weight, but I could never get myself to lift weights. I found myself starring in a mirror at the gym, hating the fact that I was not lifting as much as everyone else. A few years passed and I was starting to fall back into my bad habits when a buddy recommended trying out CrossFit Sun. The gym was close to my house in Carmel Mountain, so I thought, why not. I'll tell you why not. Because a year later I now have a new habit, not being able to leave the gym. The coaches really care about your fitness. They're not there just to clock in and out, they're there to make sure you get in a great work out. You'll walk away from each class having learned something new. For example a new way to stretch your muscles or a better way to lift heavy weights. The best thing about CrossFit is that the gym is ALWAYS improving. The way we did push ups months ago is different than the way we did them yesterday. They're always finding a better way to build your core strength, which not only benefits your workout, but also helps in your daily life. Speaking of your daily life, the Sun brothers also have a vast knowledge about nutrition that can help you get your life on the right track. And at this point, you can pretty much ask anyone about the paleo diet. The coaches also set month-long challenges to help us reach our lifelong goals. Joining Crossfit sun was one of the best decisions I've made. I'll never be able to workout anywhere else because I've become spoiled with the attention of the coaches, the awesome location of the gym down the street, and with the fast pace work outs that we do every day. I hope to see you soon. Come say hi. Oh, and ask Chung about Dolphin Burpees. read more

great coaches and lots of class options! (: their motto is "fun & easy" crossfit in itself is intimidating, but CFS encourages a "you do you, bro" mentality. the coaches are very good about making sure you're getting the most out of the workout without forcing you to go "Rx" if you're not ready. CFS has a great management and coaching staff, very easy to work with whenever you decide to come in. The community itself is a great distribution of people from the surrounding area. You'll definitely come for the coaching and stay for the community (: read more

CrossFit Sun - crossfit sun throwing down at the lululemon jumpathon in la jolla! - 2.22.14 - Interval Training Gyms Near Me - San Diego, California

So after about 15 years of not really working out seriously and knowing a few coworkers whom had unbelievable body transformations doing crossfit (and none were necessarily athletes) I did a quick search before my 39th birthday at crossfit box's near my house in PQ. Immediately Crossfit Sun came up with stellar reviews so I booked an intro session with Chung Sun. My biggest fears were obviously the fact I was so out of shape, am a desk jockey all day at work, and knew even trying to do one pull-up was going to be near impossible. Chung immediately put my concerns at ease and within the first hour of my first intro session I learned more about the proper form for a squat then all my younger years of lifting fairly seriously. I've struggled with my weight for many years and really to no other excuse except shear laziness and bad eating habits. My mind was finally in the right place to no longer take my health for granted and I knew a gym membership wasn't going to work for me. I wanted to be pushed, coached, and have a "team" of fellow members that also are positive and help drive you to reach your goals. It's now been 4 months and this is exactly what I'm getting. Mark Sun, Dan "Captain", Deej, Brandon, and all the coaches are fantastic. They care about proper form and technique versus just trying to throw up heavy weight and injuring yourself while at the same time pushing you to perform at levels you don't even think are possible. Not only are the coaches great but the members are fantastic people that also push you along to new personal records (PRs). If you are considering joining a "box" and are scared about the overall physical impact of the workouts I strongly suggest you check out Crossfit Sun. Workouts are scalable so if you struggle with a particular movement/lift there are plenty of variations to help get you through the exercise and improve. While I still have a long way to go with my personal goals the amount of strength and mobility improvement I've already seen in myself has been fantastic and just what I wanted to get out of doing crossfit. I can't say enough good things about Crossfit Sun so figured the least I could do was write this testimonial. read more

After working out in regular gyms for a few decades i was bored out of mind. i needed a change. a friend recommended crossfit. the more i learned about it the more fascinated i was. It sounded like an amazing and fun way to test your limits and get truly fit. I looked into a bunch of CrossFit boxes but once I came across CrossFit Sun I knew it was for me. Mark invited me to come in a try a few classes and I felt instantly at home. The coaches are phenomenal (super attentive, passionate about CrossFit and constantly learning and teaching new CrossFit concepts). The members are awesome (welcoming, friendly and always there to encourage you to push yourself just a bit more). They just moved into a brand new space and they have tons of great equipment for everyone at all of the 5 classes they offer most every day. Their pricing is super reasonable and reflects how much they really just want to spread the word about CrossFit and get people into the best possible shape they can be in for their overall well-being. I am really thankful that I found CrossFit Sun. read more

Let me just give you a quick background on myself so you know where I was before I started. I was never one motivated to "workout" or doing any physical activity for longer than a couple months. As a kid, I didn't grow up participating in sports, but watched it on television. As an adult, I wasn't very active either. I didn't like any type of activity that made you sweat, so basically I was pretty lazy. My idea of "working out" was 30 - 45 min on the the elliptical, then hit a few machines, but I spent most of the time reading the directions to get them to work than actually using them. My husband on the other hand grew up playing sports and was very outdoorsy, but after having three kids he didn't have the time to workout or the motivation to do it alone. Back in March he wanted to get back to doing CrossFit. He used to go 3x a week 2 years ago, but timing was just off. He looked up a few places and found a few options that were all the same distance from us, but something drew him in to contact CrossFit Sun. He contacted them for an introduction and was scheduled to come in the next afternoon. I ended up tagging along to see what it was about, but honestly did not expect to go any further from that. We came in for the introduction and got to meet both Mark and Chung (Owners & Trainers). To be honest, when I came in for the introduction I didn't really take it that seriously. I thought it would be like all the other gyms we've been to before where they show you the facility and go over class schedules, take a few measurements to get your BMI and then talk about fees. That is not how CrossFit Sun operates. They were super nice and very knowledgeable; explained what CrossFit is and went on about key things to think about with health overall, not just from a fitness standpoint. They didn't even want to talk fees, they wanted us to get the feel for the classes ourselves and if it works for us we go from there. I was really surprised by that because what gym or fitness class out there do you know that wants you to try them out before talking price or asking you for your credit card to get started? That was a first for us! I came in for class everyday during my 2weeks and was so excited to come back. I watched other members doing the work out and would think, "Wow, I want to be able to do that one day." Everyone is very friendly and genuinely motivating. It wasn't because I was new, but that is the CrossFit Sun environment you are in. Awesome coaches and friendly members! The workouts each day are super fun and challenging, but never impossible. I'm glad to have tagged along with my husband that one afternoon in March because I have not only grown tremendously from this experience (both physically as to what my body is capable of doing and mentally to know I can push myself), but I have gotten to know a great group of wonderful people! Mark and Chung are amazing trainers! They are very patient, knowledgeable, and encouraging. The whole CrossFit Sun family is awesome and we are very proud to be a part of it. My husband and I love CFS and what they stand for so much that our 8 year old boy and 6 year old daughter take the kids class, even our 2year old can't wait to start the class! You will be very pleased to be a part of CrossFit Sun, not just because of how awesome you will become physically (not overnight of course, but with consistency anything is possible), but because of the great family-oriented environment you are getting! read more

Ok, first off, this is not a gym... it's a family! My wife and I joined 2 months ago and have felt extremely welcomed and motivated to push ourselves. The coaches are all very attentive and helpful and will give you a proverbial kick in the butt when you need it... but always with good humor and making sure you're safe. To say this is the hardest workout system I have ever participated in is a major understatement. However, this bunch of sado-masochists make the pain so enjoyable, especially when you see the results in a very short time. Even our son is taking part in CF Kids and loves it! Don't be scared of what you THINK about crossfit. Come on down and talk to Chung. Try it out for a month. If you're not completely sold on this amazing system, walk away... but you won't. You'll do things you never thought you could. You'll lift, and push and pull and bend and twist and burpee in ways you never expected. You'll be sore and tired and sweaty and not believe you just did what you did. You won't think you can come back the next day.... but you will. read more

The best fitness instruction I have ever received in my life. No comparison. I can say, honestly, that I was intimidated, and I can also say that this is probably the best decision I have ever made. I have lost 3 pants sizes and with that, an increased sense of knowing that my body has no boundaries. At first, I simply wanted to lose weight. But now I stay because I want to push myself. The coaching is simply outstanding. If you're familiar with Crossfit, you know part of the philosophy is actually about how great coaching, combined with variety and high intensity in short spurts of time, produces phenomenal results. If you are not familiar with CrossFit, you should know that instead of showing up at a gym to do your own thing, you get extremely specific, knowledgeable coaching, and a community that cheers you on. This is a particularly great CrossFit gym because the owner and founder, Mark recruited coaches who really, really care and have a high degree of knowledge. I couldn't even do a basic squat, but their persistent, incisive, and highly enthusiastic coaching pushed me to not only feel comfortable with CrossFit, but to get stronger than I have ever been. I was skeptical when I initially read about it, and I was no fitness freak. Hiking, amateur soccer and chasing my children around is what I mostly did for fitness. But I've come to the conclusion that the way we exercise in CrossFit is actually the way the human body was meant to move and exert itself. I've only been doing this for two years now but I'm stronger and healthier than I have ever been. And yes, my body is often sore but I have learned how to "mobilize" to take care of my poor muscles. And part of me is proud and I wear my soreness as a badge of honor. In addition, I love being a model for my sons to show that fitness is an important part of my life. At this point, I can keep up with them. Hands down, the best part of this box (gym for non-XFitters) is the community. If the coach isn't cheering me on, the other members are pushing me. There is such a diversity of people here. Have kids and no time to work out (like me?) - lots of families here! Young and want to push yourself with weightlifting? Check! Like to run? Check! Hate to run? Check! 60+? Check! (I think you get the picture) I can't say thank you enough CrossFit Sun. And no, no payment received for this glowing review. My sub 10min mile is enough thanks for me! read more

I was visiting from out of town and came to CrossFit Sun to work out. I was so impressed with the caliber of coaching I experienced while I was there! I don't go to the gym to "have fun!" I go to work. That's why I like Crossfit Sun. Although the Sun brothers never push you past your limits, every class works me basically to exhaustion. And that is just what I'm looking for. Mark and Chung are great motivators, keep the classes interesting, different, challenging, and never let me sandbag. This is the perfect workout for me. Intense, but done in an hour. It's helping me build up my cardio, and their attention to detail on form goes a long way toward preventing injury. read more

After working out for 3 years at 24 Hour Fitness I gave Crossfit a try at Crossfit Sun. The trainers, Mark, Chung, and Todd are the best I have every worked with and I can't see myself working out at any other gym. In my old workout routine I would spend about 3 hours every other night doing a combo of some weight lifting and a long run at the end. Working out at Crossfit Sun has brought me to a level of fitness I never could have achieved with my old routine. In one of my first workouts called Cindy (as many rounds as possible in 20 minutes of: 5 pullups, 10 pushups, and 15 squats) I started out at just 8 rounds. After less then 3 months I had double my performance to about 16. I have never seen those kind of quick results before. The results are amazing but what is more important is that Mark, Chung, and Todd have created an environment that makes me look forward to my workout every day. They and the other members of Crossfit Sun make working out the highlight of my day while making me push myself to my limits. I highly recommend Crossfit to anyone and, if you are lucky enough to live in the San Diego area, Crossfit Sun is the best. read more

For all of you out there who want to get in shape, CrossFit is the fitness regimen for you. CrossFit Sun is run by Mark & Chung Sun, both are young, energetic and best of all very enthusiastic about CrossFit. Both have tirelessly pursued their certifications including CrossFit Mobility, a very under rated certification but SO, SO, SO important. I have been a member of 4 different CrossFit Gyms and been CrossFitting for over 4 years. CrossFIt Sun has an energy about it that creates a great environment for CrossFit training. The Work-outs of the Day (WOD for short) consist of a warm-up, some mobility to work on flexibility or joint and mobility (all of us need to work on this), then the WOD and usually a cool down & stretching to improve muscle recovery. Mark & Chung really have a desire to teach and motivate to make you better, faster, stronger, more flexible which is important in fitness trainers. They are also constantly looking to improve and are adding programs such as CrossFit kids. For all of you who may be thinking of giving CrossFit Sun a try, please do so. All the CFS members will welcome you in as they did me & my wife & make you feel at home whether you are a 1st time CrossFitter or been CrossFitting for years. read more

Unlike some of the previous reviews, I did not work out regularly before CrossFit. I thought I would have to train BEFORE I even joined, but thankfully, Mark, Chung, and the other members are very patient and encouraging. The workouts are scaled down according to our individual skill levels when we first start out. In a few months of working out with CFS, I'm able to do things I never imagined I could do (like flip those giant tires). I have never worked out so hard my entire life and I'm LOVING every minute of it! If you want a good workout, get ripped, get healthy, or make friends...CrossFit Sun is the place for you! read more

CrossFit Sun is everything you'd want in a CF gym. The coach I worked with (Mark Sun) is friendly, outgoing, patient and extremely knowledgeable about anything fitness, health and well-being related. He is great at motivating you to push yourself to what you think is your limit and then past it. Mark has also taken the time to work with me one-on-one to make sure that my exercise technique and form is proper and also helped me plan out a diet to follow. The fact that he is certified and also has a background as personal trainer really helps his gym run smoothly. Mark will run you through a training session to figure out what your current fitness level is at, then work with you to develop a plan to help you achieve your goals. The training session makes sure you understand the fundamentals of the workouts that you will be doing so that you don't hurt yourself and ensure that you get maximum gains from the exercises you do. All the members I've met have been very encouraging - I've been embarrassed to be the straggler on some routines but they've always helped me to finish strong and I definitely would never have been able to push myself that hard on my own. Mark is on top of the latest CrossFit routines and is constantly on the look out for new equipment and exercises to share with everyone. The website is always updated and members leave helpful feedback and post times on a regular basis. The pricing is also top notch - I've dropped in on other CF gyms where their rates are up to triple what Mark charges! Mark also is willing to work with anyone's schedule. I always stop by when I'm back in San Diego (I live in Orange County now) because I know I'll get my butt kicked in a great workout. What more would you want in a CF gym? read more

I've had the privilege of being a member of this gym for over 4 years now, and have been doing CrossFit in some capacity since 2010. I've been to many different CrossFit affiliates before, and I've seen my shares of good ones and bad ones. My wife and I even moved away to Dallas for a couple years and we really struggled to find the same experience, and every trip I made back to San Diego in our time there I made a point to stop in and it was as if I'd never left. I'm back there full time now and it's a critical part of our lives. What you get at CrossFit Sun: Leadership: Coaches who are committed to you and their trade, always growing, learning, and setting the example Community: This is a very friendly community that welcomes new members and organizes amazing events, including being top worldwide fundraisers for Barbells for Boobs, despite being a much smaller community Challenge: No matter your skill level, this group can raise the bar for you. Fun: Fun and easy is the motto of the gym, and they do a great job at exemplifying it. read more

I found Crossfit Sun in Carmel Mountain by pure luck last May while searching for a new workout program in my area. I've done bootcamps in the past and have trained for and ran 3 marathons, both were in a group setting. Therefore, I was eager to find a comparable type of program because I knew I excelled best in this atmosphere. Having never heard of Crossfit, I thought it would be similar, but boy was I wrong. The philosophies, style, and coaching separate this from anything I've ever done in the past. It's hard to explain what each class entails because each class is different from the last. Our coaches manage to create a fun, friendly environment while mixing in a variety of challenging exercises. I know there are many gyms and Crossfit gyms out there but I couldn't imagine going anywhere else. The amount of friends I have made combined with the physical results I have seen, really make me feel like my time (and money) is well spent here. Coaches Mark and Chung are beyond dedicated and the love for what they do is apparent everyday in their energy and encouragement. In the past, I have sort of felt like just a number in a big group, but our coaches make sure to give everyone one on one attention, every class. I am currently 4 months pregnant and am still going strong. Mark and Chung have been amazing about keeping an eye on me and going out of their way to create alternate or modified movements when necessary. They are constantly reminding me to "breathe" and to "focus more on technique than strength and intensity" which I sometimes forget in my stubbornness. I honestly never thought I would be able to workout at all, let alone at this level when I became pregnant. However, it has kept me fit, helped maintain my energy, and I swear it has been the reason I never had any morning sickness. I am completely confident going to class each day knowing I have knowledgeable coaches to lead me. read more
