Honestly...I wasn't sure I had what it took to succeed at CrossFit. But from day one at SoChac, I found an incredible community with amazing coaches. I relocated from San Antonio about two months ago and the first thing I wanted to accomplish in Austin was finding a gym. To be specific. I wanted a gym that had CrossFit, weightlifting, and if I was lucky- strongman. When it comes to choosing a gym, community is incredibly important to me. I just want to be around great people who are encouraging, competitive, and fun. In my first week, I tried 5 different gyms. SoChac was in my top two. The ultimate reason I became a member was because CrossFit SoChac really is the whole package. The owner, Heather is a fantastic connector. She wasn't able to get me into the weightlifting class early on, but she continuously followed up with me so I could give it a try. Follow-up is SO important and Heather ensures she does what she says she will. The members of this gym are refreshing. I love the range of personalities here.... all of them bring something unique and enticing to the gym. The programming here is also something I'm drawn to. There are always ways to make it more or less challenging depending on what you want to do. Really excited to be a member and to continue become a better athlete! read more

It took me a long time to find a box like CrossFit SoChac - they are the perfect mix of challenging workouts, knowledgeable coaching staff, and members who are ready to laugh even when the conditioning wants to make you cry. Every class is led by a coach who takes a personal interest in each athlete, accepting them where they are and working together to make a plan for where they want to go. These coaches are part of my family and when I had an injury that set me back ( no, I didn't tear my ACL and meniscus at the gym - I got tackled at a wedding during the bouquet toss - and yes, I have the pictures to prove it), they worked overtime to adapt workouts and keep me moving as much as possible all the way up to knee surgery day. This kept me mentally tough and physically ready to tackle my comeback - it's clear EVERY athlete matters here. Plus - these members are the best - EVERYONE is committed to bettering themselves and cheering on those around them, no matter what their level of fitness is. Joining CrossFit SoChac has been life changing. Never in my wildest imagination did I think I would enjoy getting up at 4:30am every weekday morning to go to the gym, but I honestly do. I love this gym, the trainers, the people and the atmosphere, it is like a second home. CrossFit sounds intimidating, but this gym makes it accessible to everyone (all body types and fitness levels, including catering to those with injuries to modify workouts to fit specific needs). The programming at this box is wonderful, they truly care and plan out the workouts they schedule to fit the needs of their gym and their athletes the best. I know I am in great hands when I come in for my workouts. They will push you to be your best, but they also understand that some days you just need a recovery day and they encourage you to listen to your body which is amazing. I am an injury prone person, however the coaches go out of their way to make sure they accommodate me and my injury to where I can still get a killer workout while resting my injured area so I can heal faster. I can tell you that Heather, the owner, cares deeply about what she does and, believe me, it shows. She is a clear example of practicing what she preaches as she is not only an amazing athlete, but she also exudes a passion for teaching others. Coach Josh did my core basics classes (which were insanely helpful for beginners btw). He is literally so knowledgeable and kind, and the core classes were such a great intro to Crossfit to set our minds at ease and give us the confidence to continue (especially if you are a little nervous about starting out like I was). Coach Amanda is the bomb. Not only is she fitness goals, but she is downright the most positive person and so nice. I also signed up to do monthly nutrition with Amanda and the combo of correct nutrition mixed with CrossFit is ridiculously wonderful. I lost over 60 pounds since starting my nutrition/Crossfit combo back in April 2020 and I feel so lucky to have found this place and these wonderful people. At eight months pregnant currently, crossfit and nutrition training have been helping me maintain a healthy pregnancy weight and still get amazing workouts that are beneficial to myself and my little one on the way! All the other coaches are great as well, i just have the early morning coaches to brag on. If you are thinking about whether it is worth the money, just come try out a class. You get out what you put in, but here we are lucky enough to have coaches who care and who truly want to celebrate you and have you excel. read more

I love this place. I meant to write this review a while ago but I guess better late than never, right? A little history about me....I've been an athlete and general fan of functional, athletic style fitness for a long long time. Years ago, I was a trainer at the Globo Gym style places and I was still preaching box jumps and pushups to anyone who would listen (pretty much no one in those days). Cut to 2013 where functional fitness is all the rage. Everyone knows about box jumps and kettlebells and all that goodness. Crossfit "boxes" are popping up all over the place and, at any given time in Austin, you can throw 1 medicine ball and hit 3 bootcamp instructors. There's P90x and Insanity which require only a DVD and some floor space. With all of these options for real fitness, the question becomes "which will get you results AND is worth the money?" The answer for me, hands down, is CrossFit Bullet Proof. I think there might be other membership options but the unlimited membership is $150/month. I know this sounds steep if you're comparing it to a membership at Lifetime, but what you're paying for is the fact that you can go to ANY class in ANY time slot and get a high intensity workout from a top-notch professional. Also, I think this might be the cheapest CF gym in Austin. Some others that I auditioned before deciding on Bullet Proof would only let you come to 2 or 3 classes a week for $150. The unlimited membership at some of these places is upwards of $250. No thanks! I should mention that these classes are great for beginners to advanced. Every class has its own personality and whichever time slot works best for you will have some people from every skill level. There are all shapes, sizes, ages, and fitness levels at CF Bullet Proof and, no matter who you are or what your fitness level, Philip will help you fit right in. He's got plenty of coaching tips and movement modifications to help you work into any of the more complicated exerercises. I can't write this review without mentioning the community here. All the people that go there are just cool people. Some are married with kids, some are single, but everyone gets along and there are always social events you can be a part of that people just put together on their own whether it's just going for a beer or a movie or renting out a party barge for the whole gym. I have been at CrossFit Bullet Proof for almost 5 months and have already made some noticeable personal gains in strength, flexibility, and endurance. Oh, and been invited to a lot more BBQ/slip'n'slide parties than usual. It won't cost you anything to try out a few classes, so what are you waiting for? I'll see y'all at the 4 o'clock! read more

I have been a member of SoChac for about 4 months. I joined SoChac after my previous crossfit gym closed. The coaches are great. They place a lot of emphasis on safety and modifying the workouts based on the individuals abilities. The members and coaches are welcoming with no judgement based on fitness level. SoChac has several classes to choose from Monday through Saturday (crossfit, movement and weightlifting classes). I've been going to Bullet Proof since it opened and have been working out with Philip a year before that and I've never been in better shape! It sounds cheesy, I know, but it's the truth. I've seen the change in my workouts, I'm a lot stronger. I've seen the change outside the gym from running to rock climbing and Ultimate, I'm faster and stronger and I've also seen it at home, I sleep a lot better. It's true, CrossFit isn't cheap but it's worth it! Great place to work out, and way more effective than going to any gym I've ever visited. I'm not super athletic but the trainers are 100% dedicated and will tell you how to do something a 1,000 times until you get it right. Trust me; I know this for a fact. I have been doing crossfit for 8 months now, with some time off for a torn ankle ligament from playing volleyball. I had previously been working out at a box in Houston, and when I moved to Austin for school, I was worried I wouldn't find a box I loved quite as much. My first time going to Bulletproof, Phillip was extremely welcoming and helpful. They checked my form on a variety of movements and had me do a couple one-on-one classes to work on correcting a few mistakes, particularly after my having been off for the 2 months prior from my injury. After my one-on-one sessions, I began working out the regularly for the past month and love it! The wods are tough, but give you a great work out and scaling is always allowed. Further they do a great job in working with you to fix your form and everyone is extremely helpful and friendly. I love my new crossfit community and box! read more
